Have FUN! Agree with Caro, be kind but you must be honest. Remember, he will be telling others that you helped her buy it.

Honesty with kindness - that's what I'd want Get her to wear something she loves too - that way you'll be able to ask her why she loves it & have a bench-mark for the things she tries.

Oh, love Donna's reminder. Should have that tattooed on somewhere and everyone should get the benefit of that phrase -- so kind and yet is also the true way to look at it.

Thanks, that's good advice...and easier to do than trying to be an actual stylist, which I would bite at!

Ceit, yes I think she will be fairly easier to please.

Unfrumped and Donna, those are good feedback ideas...think I will commit to memory.

Maybe this will work!

And don't forget, "That dress/top/pants doesn't get you!"

Ask what kind of feedback she wants or thinks she wants. I always wish I had better feedback on what something looks like in the back. Three-way mirrors help to an extent, but another set of eyes are always good for fit issues.

Ooh, this can be scary or fun! Is she a good friend?

I agree with Celt--if you can determine what she wants--not meaning to be a yes-woman, but more of how can you help-- does she just view it as a fun social event, so doesn't expect to be "saved" from any fashion faux pas? Maybe she wants someone who can look at the whole outfit & see things we can't see in those darn mirrors. Probably best to go in the direction you mentioned and keep things light. Maybe you'll say I prefer the medium, not the large, or this color makes you glow. Simple things like that with good wording! You'll figure out more as you go along, of course, as to whether she expects serious fashion feedback. And, "I don't know, I have trouble with that also " goes a long way!

Have fun!

Seriously, she seems pretty easy to go shopping with. Ask her what kind of feedback she wants, and then just go for it.

A friend wants me to take her shopping. Go ahead and laugh...it is pretty nuts!

I've told her over and over that I can't do it...that I can barely dress myself, that I rarely find what I want and return 3/4 of what I buy. She wants to go with me anyway, so I'm giving in. I could use some advice on how to be a good friend here.

1) I'm worried I will be no help
2) we don't have the same style
3) I'm pretty clueless, she is even more

She likes Coldwater creek and JJill. My plan is to have her picking the styles she wants and only advise on color and fit. Avoid talks about what is trendy, because she won't care. In general I bet she will be easier to please than I am.

Other advice?
