Thank you for all your input. I signed up for the UPS mychoice thinking I could authorize the without signature thing but seems it's only for rerouting. I'd so prefer home delivery.

I can understand a driver not feeling safe if there's a good reason.

So if you call Nordstrom I guess they call UPS and tell them their customer authorized leaving the package?

It doesn't make sense that he didn't leave a slip indicating an attempt. I left a note so hopefully it will work - I'll know when I get home from work - if not I will call Nordstrom.

Call Nordstrom's, they will take care of you.

I had this happen to me where UPS marked a package delivered that had a very expensive Burberry watch in it. I looked everywhere for it, both front and back doors, by the garage everywhere. Nordstrom's took care of the UPS side of it and resent my order. Seriously fabulous customer service.

Four days later, the package arrives in really bad shape. Looks like it was run over. Everything inside of it was fine, though, but I took a picture just in case. I called Nordstrom's (usually I'm an e-mail gal, but I thought this needed a call), and they basically said to simply put the return slip in the new box, as bad of shape as it was in, and send it back to them.

I did, and they took care of all of it.

I use the UPS My Choice service all the time, and when I get a tracking number, I go onto their website and change the delivery to pick up at my local UPS office. There is no fee, and I can pick up the package at my leisure.

Would it be possible to have the neighbors accept the package? My guess is that the driver has probably been burned in the past with leaving packages (something probably got stolen) and is reluctant to do it again. If he can leave the package with a neighbor, at least he has a signature as proof that he delivered the package. I do find that in my neck of the woods, whether a driver leaves a package or not is dependent on the driver who is delivering that day. Some just don't like to do it.

I pretty much always call up and have UPS hold the package, then go to their always backwater depot to pick it up. Happens with FedEx as well. My dream come true would be the ability to pick the shipper: it would be USPS for me every time (!)

Call and talk with CS at Nordstrom. I have a way to track where my shipments are and if I know I cannot be available, I arrange to pick them up at the local UPS warehouse.

Except: if your driver thinks your package might possibly be stolen if left, s/he is allowed to use discretion and not leave it.

Also, I had one package that went missing last year. I don't think it was even left at my house. But the area manager decided I had to sign for everything after that. I live in a fairly remote area with a long driveway. No one is stealing my packages! It drove me nuts Till the driver came up with some kind of software workaround.

So I ordered something from Norstrom (!) online. My first as we don't have any close to us and never considered the store before YLF. It was supposed to be delivered today, but wasn't and no note was left by the UPS driver. I have spent the last hour and a half trying to figure out what the tracking site lingo meant, on the phone and online chat and setting up upsmychoice so I can set it up so if I'm not home they'll leave the package. The one rep said the delivery guy entered the wrong description into the system-they didn't deliver because I wasn't home. I also have another package supposed to be tomorrow and from a different company on Thursday. I have no experience with UPS and find it odd that I keep getting the "ultimately it is at the driver's disgression to leave a package". I did not know how these orders would be shipped until I received the shipping confirmations-not that that matters. Also, if it is the normal UPS delivery guy I've seen delivering to neighbors I hope he doesn't throw my stuff around too much. I'm gonna leave a note at the front door but the one rep said that wouldn't help. Has anyone experienced this? Have any guidance?
Thanks in advance,
Donna
