Thanks for the compliment Angie!
Re the jeans - they were a size bigger than my normal and then grew. I think maybe they are just too big!

I like last years grey jumper! Could do with a sleeker pair of jeans. But bless you for sporting them at the correct length. Keep us posted with what you purchase in the city.

And I cannot believe that you've had 3 babies in 5 years!!! You look INCREDIBLE.

Antje,
yes I think I can get away with that silvery gray. Darker grays are more problomatic
Angie
My waistline is about where the welt on the cardi is. I was thinking the bottom layer might be too short ( I bought it more for wearing under tunics and dresses to extend their life into winter) But it isn't as short as it seems because those jeans are one of my saggy ones that drops down below the crotch

I wish I hadn't bought it though - Those buttons really don't look that good and if I wear it unbuttoned the placket is funny.
Going to a longer length - here is the one jumper from last year that I am happy about. Bought it with pregnancy in mind though it wasn't maternity and wore it heaps. Again it was gray but because of the low neckline I always had another colour next to my face
http://s297.photobucket.com/al.....0_5362.jpg
and with scarf to brighten it
http://s297.photobucket.com/al.....0_5356.jpg

Sorry the picture is fuzzy -was taken by my long suffering 4 year old daughter!

Love the cardi. And I'm jealous that you can wear gray/silver. It's such a nice sophisticated color and few women can wear it; it looks like you pull it off well. Just need some colorful shoes or accessories (jewelry, scarf)

Love the layered look but your bottom layer might be too short. It’s on your waist? Buttons are pulling, so you might need to go up a size. You are getting there!

I am going to the city in a few weeks so I think I will wait til then rather than go on-line.
I have tried a layering combination from a cropped cardi I already have. I don't think it looks great - the buttons are a bit weird. What do you guys think?
(the second picture is very poor - sorry - I just put it in to show the buttons)

You can't put a jacket over a bulky jumper. That’s the last layer you can wear. Otherwise you’ll look like the Michelin Man!

Yes re the belt.

Black is a good idea. Layer it with white or red. Can you do any on-line jumper shopping?

Hello again Thanks for all your help
A couple of questions
1.what did you mean by "No jacket" in the second line above?

2."Cable Button Through Vest" - this one has a belt - is that part of the look you advise?

I went to Just Jeans and looked for those looks but only the cropped cardigan was there and I don't think the colours suit me. I live in a smallish town and the selection isn't comprehensive.
I looked at most of the shops in town, apart from the "boutiques" and was a bit depressed as almost everything was grey. As I said before, I really love grey and every few years when it is in fashion I buy something else in it, but I have just got to stop, at least in items near my face (I have blonde hair and olive skin and don't suit murky colours). So I ended up with a new black polo neck and a black cardigan, which were also on my shopping list for the year in the "replace basics" sort of category. Might have to leave my more fashionable knit shopping to a trip to the city!

First link: I like the tunic style (top right) but not the colour. I am not partial to beige unless you are dark skinned. This is good for your body type. No jacket.

Second link; These are goodies. Layered underneath and flattering. Good A-line silhouettes. You’ll need straight leg jeans and boots to achieve the best look.

No Angie - I never wear my denim jacket with jeans even before I read your blog!

I have just bought two longsleeved black tops to layer with.

I think what I am having trouble with is the bulkiness of the current fashions (I'm 34 so a lot of my fashion sensibility was formed in the more minimalist 90's).
Seems there is a few big trends in winter here
1. Long cardigans
2 sleeveless or cap sleeved vests
3 Tunic looks
3 a lot of grey ( which I like, but doesn't actually suit me!)

Here are a couple of pages which had a selection of jumpers but I can't say I like them hugely
http://www.bigw.com.au/women/fashion.html (the top 2 looked OK)

Go through your sites and post a few jumpers and cardis that you feel might fit the bill. You can layer a jacket over a jumper too. I do this all the time.

Not opposed to them - I wear a denim jacket frequently and find I am much more drawn to jackets in general. I lprefer buying them. And in the past I loved wearing suits!

But it is specifically knitwear that I am after owing to warmth (buildings here aren't heated in our winter) and ease of movement, And I know that I WILL end up wearing "jumpers" - if I don't buy a nice one, I will end up with my old baggy pilled ones.

Layer. You'll need a longer layer underneath, and a shorter fitted cardigan in top. How opposed are you to little jackets as layers as opposed to knitwear?

Yes Angie I do take a bigger size on the bottom. I have read all the posts on pretty pears - I presume what you said about top length etc would apply.

Christie, I confess that the idea of a belt over a cardigan is pretty scary! Perhaps because I am on the petite end of the height range I have often felt that that a belted look made me look dumpy. But I am ready to listen to all suggestion! Thanks

Oh, I am totally not an expert at this, but to me, you look a little rectangular, perhaps tending toward a pear? I think that a cardigan over a cami, buttoned right under the bust would help define your waist more. Perhaps if you added a belt over it, even more so.

But I know so little about this stuff.

It is most for wearing with pants/jeans. Style would be casual.

Where are you going to be wearing this? Mostly out with the baby and things? Are you looking for a more casual style, cardigan, or a pullover?

Edit: Oh yes, please. A picture would help immensely.

Hope you don’t mind me posting this again, as I found a few mistakes last time. I love reading Angie’s posts everyday

Body type -basically in balance except for thighs/legs that look a size too big for the rest of my body. And while my proportions should have indicated a "pear" by some methods of reckoning (currently 34-30-38 but before latest (3rd) child 33-28-37) my ribcage and shoulders balance out the hips, which aren't that wide and the weight is mostly on the bottom and thighs.

At the moment, 3 1/2 months after the baby, I still have about 10 pounds? (5kg anyway) to lose and much of that is around the waist, back and tummy. These factors, in addition to being slightly more buxom than usual (almost B cup rather than barely A-cup) makes me feel as if my top half looks like quite bulky, especially when I put on a fuzzy long polo neck.

I am in Australia and we are coming up for winter. I need suggestions for a new jumper (sweater to most of you) It would need to be longsleeved and NOT cropped. I have had very bad results in recent years in finding anything that suits me and for my lifestyle they are an absolute necessity. Last year when I was pregnant I had a great empire line scoop neck tunic style one, but I am looking for something else. BTW please don’t worry that things are very different in Australia! - we are just half a year later than the US. I am only looking for general ideas of which styles would be flattering.
I have however, (in response to Maya) included a few links to Aussi shops – not necessarily ones I would go to, but they are ones with easily navigable websites
