Wow Suz, how did you find such a similar skirt? I like that style top with it! Not that it really matters, but the embellishment on my skirt is black. The ribbon around the waistband is not stitched on but adhered somehow, so I can't take it off.

Tex, I like your mesh sweater idea! I do have a white mesh cardigan, but that wouldn't have the modern edge. Denim jacket, check! The chambray shirt is an excellent thought! No blue necklace but I'm not a big jewelry wearer either.

Thanks you two!

I didn't get a chance to reply earlier but wanted to chime in. The skirt is pretty and fits you very well but I think I'm looking for the "modern" edge too. I think the one Suz linked to gives an example of mixing something less expected in terms of style of top with the skirt (like a bit edgier with the more feminine skirt). Like a mesh sweater with a navy cami under it. Or something along that line. I'd keep playing with it. Maybe add a bold necklace to the #2 outfit. Do you have any necklaces with the color Navy in them by chance? This may not be "the" one but something like:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/ka.....ry&co

You could also try that skirt with a jean jacket or tied chambray shirt maybe? Just thinking out loud.

The capri pants look great. And the tops look like nice classic tops and styles and look great on you. I think I'd add a modern necklace to the capri/top outfit. Either a long pendant or maybe a bold necklace overlaying the top. Maybe the same necklace...

I think the skirt works when you tuck and belt, though after having suggested it, I now wonder if this is the right belt. But that is a separate issue! There is something still tricky about this skirt, though. I think maybe the blue lines in the bottom (I think they are blue?) call for a blue top. Or something. I would look for pictures of floaty, flared, or gored linen skirts on Pinterest and see how people style these. Here's a similar Eileen Fisher one that Nordie's has done up with an untucked top. Looks a bit sack like here, but I didn't mind the top untucked in your earlier pics.

I think you look good with the top tucked into the capris, but it doesn't feel as modern somehow. Maybe if you semi-tucked?

Thanks everyone!
Below are some additional pics with some of your suggestions. #1 Belted skirt, #2 closer fitting knit top with skirt and #3 white sweater tank with skirt and cardigan. #4-#5-#6 tank tucked into capri bottoms.

Can I get away with a tucked shirt with the capris?

@Angie, you have no idea how tickled I am when you take the time to comment on my threads - thank you!
@Aida, I wondered about the "grin" with the dark bottoms. I think it isn't quite as noticeable IRL. Do you see it as a deal breaker as far as pairing these two pieces?
@Shevia, @Runcarla and @Debora, these capris have been in my wardrobe for a couple of years. I think it's a happy accident that they actually work : )
@Lyn67 and @Deborah, I've added a couple of photos with your skirt styling suggestions. Both the pink knot front top and white sweater tank are too small but the get the idea across - thanks!
@mtgrl, that's funny about you measuring the tops. Maybe the darker pants against the white background emphasise my bottom half more and that's why the proportions seem off? I don't know either!
@alicat, thanks!

I am so new at understanding proportions that I had to measure the orange top and the blue top to see if they were the same length.

I still don't understand why I like the blue/purple top with white clams better, but the proportions seem better to me.

This is where YLF has helped me so much. I kept buying the same things over and over again when all along it the proportions were off. I am glad you asked this question.

Love the white pants!!!

I love all, except, nr. 2, 3, 4. I have a white flared lined- linen skirt like yours. I never tuck in it as per Angie said. I rather wear some tailored or body con hip length tops and camis with it, or a slim belt and then it's OK!

You wear pants/slacks very well. The Capri/ cropped pants look good in both colour ways, and the orange tank is a great colour. # 5 hits it out of the ball park. Lucky you to find your white summer pants!

First of all, good job! YOU LOOK GREAT!

I like all the lengths of denim crops in the collage in #1 :)

The camis look super. Proportions in #2 and #5 are fab.

Lets see the belt with the skirt as per your suggestion. I'm not entirely sure about that one yet. The style with a tucked in top shortens your torso a lot - and perhaps a little too much.
The shells both look good to me, though the orange grins a little bit with the dark bottoms. For the capris I much prefer the shorter length (especially if you can get a thinner roll like you have at the longer length). For #2 the sweater and pants work, and the top and pants work, but the three together feel a little bit off; did you try tucking the top with that sweater? I think the hemlines are falling at odds. #3 looks pretty (such a great summery color combo!), and #4 is just OK to me (would like to see a more cropped topper there, needs some cheekiness). Loooooove #5!! Would look equally fab with the navy tank.

Thanks Kelly and Ceit! I'm glad you think the tanks work.
Suz, thank for your observations. I was wondering about the column of color for the sweater too. I should try the denim capris with the orange shell and cardigan. I wonder if the combination of all blue - tank, cardigan, denim capris would be too dark for summer. Will have to give that a try.

I did try that belt with the skirt and orange top but thought the belt was a little heavy looking.

Is it the skirt length that is off? Too long? Or the fit? It just occurred to me that I can probably take off the ribbon on the waistband.

Wow, I love those BR shells on you, both the blue and the orange. Gorgeous!! You are tempting me to order, except I don't think we have these colours in Canada. I will check after writing this.

Your white pants are superb.

Your clams are also superb. WOW!! I like them both lengths, but vote for the shorter versions.

I am not loving the cardigan over the shells, but I might like the blue one if you did a column of colour instead of the white clams.

I agree that the skirt is tricky. But did you try it with the belt you're wearing with the white pants? That might work. Or belting over top of the untucked shell. I can see the value of a lined white skirt and understand why you might be partial to it.

I love all of these. You look so summery and fresh! The blouse lengths look good to me. The colors are vivid and sophisticated. I think the clams look great at both lengths--the longer length works because of the taper. You are ready for warmer weather!
Pil, I think either of the lengths on the capris look very nice. Both fall within Angie's recommended sweet spot for shorter pants. I know that longer, closely fitted bermudas are coming in big time now, so maybe the shorter length will give you more wear over the next two years. I like the longer length a smidge more personally. Maybe Angie will come to the rescue with a decisive instruction on this one!

I'm not a fan of the sweater over the top in 2, and I'm not really sure why. I suspect that the top and the pant alone (is that 6 for the reverse?) will look more flattering. Maybe others can chime in with a better answer than mine. I just think it hits at an awkward spot. It isn't long enough or short enough to my eye. The top and capri in this (if 6) look great together.

I also feel terrible because I'm also not loving the skirt (wince! I know. groan. I should be voted off the forum. really. I feel awful.). I couldn't be a bigger fan of the white pants though! Those look phenomenal. Maybe the super stellar fabness of the white pants is putting the skirt in a bad light? Maybe it is that I have a poisoned eye for the line detail on the skirt because I don't have a pronounced waist and they never look good on me. I just keep envisioning it with a longer top over it, and I think it would look absolutely gorgeous, so maybe that's it? Maybe it needs un-tucking and a loose belt over the shirt to define your waist?

Good golly, I hope you get some better advice than mine from the forum. I feel like I was about 5% helpful and all that was in telling you what you already knew--that your white pants are awesome!

Added more pictures at the bottom of the thread. I really have to cobble togther my threads. Our OLD OLD computer won't let me edit since the website update, but I'm unable to post pictures from my ipad so I have to use a combination of both. Quite a challenge for a non-tech person like me.
--------------------------------------------------

Can I please get some help with proportions? The mailman just brought some new BR silk tanks today. I thought they would be light enough to wear tucked as well as untucked. I think the fit is fine although I'm not sure about length. These are petite large and may be a smidge large under the arms, but a medium is just too tight across the seat.

Not being much of a shorts wearer due to knocked knees and large, shapeless legs, these capris have been in heavy rotation in prior years. (yay me for finally being able to squeeze back into them) Of course since joining YLF I'm now aware that cut and length are major factors I hadn't taken into consideration in the past.

#1 is my first collage photo attempt so I hope it worked - it may be GIGANTIC : ) It has the longer "as is" and rolled up version of the capris. Am I correct that the shorter length is more flattering?
#2 - do the sweater, tank and capri proportions work together?
#3 and #4 - I think I need a belt, maybe gold, with the skirt to help mask the literal horizontal line across my mid section.
#5 - with 3" heels. If my feet could take it I would wear them all the time for the added height! I'm quite happy with these $5 Eddie Bauer pants from last summer.
#6 - just a back view of the shirt. I don't think it is too tight or hits at the absolute widest point - am I seeing this correctly?

Even thought it is still cold here, we are heading to some warm weather and I need to figure out what to take!

Thanks for your insight, I really appreciate it!
