Modern Homespun . . . I'd wear her clothes! Thanks, rachylou.

Have at it, JuniperGreen! (cool username, by the way.)

These are all great ideas.

Ha!. Note taken, rachylou. (No to the Spidey.) ;) Though I can see how someone younger and more moto than I might wear it well. I am drawn to moto as a look in general (asymmetrical zips!) but feel like a total poseur when I put it on.

Thanks, Jenni NZ. Prairie to me means grassland and wide open spaces, wind and sky with a nod to 1800's vintage (cotton and ruffles) a la Little House. I admit it, I do harbor some ruffle-love though as style changes I can feel myself moving away from that and toward something more sleek. Have become a big fan of COS. It's weird to me how well their line fits in with what I like style-wise due to how they present their clothes on the models (futuristic) but if you ignore that there's a lot that feels old-timey - wool, cotton, tweed - but in a very interesting palette.

Ok, this is a home decor thing... but I feel there is similar spirit. Emily Henderson, decorator, coined this term: Modern Homespun

I think she’d wear your clothes

Before I read all the responses so far, I thought Modern Country? To me as a non-North American the prairies are associated with Little House on the Prairie! ( I do have a BIL and SIL who live in Saskatoon in Canada though which is prairie in current time of course). I don't see any Little House here. I agree with La P's comment that you liked.

It’s a little bit cheesy. Flat shine. Now mind, my neighbor looks great in cheesy. I peruse her catalogs; there’s cute stuff. This jacket is cute. But it’s very Spidey.

Thanks, The Cat and Rachylou! I wouldn't have thought Classic or "Town and Country" applied, but now that you've said it I do see and it's pointing me in an interesting direction - thinking about color and texture as categories and not just descriptors.

FWIW, I tried this puffer last week and while I like it in the photo because color and waist definition, it felt and looked silly on, like I was wearing a superhero biker costume or something. Too shiny. Too urban maybe?

GREAT style! This is what I would call "Classic Sporty" or "Town and Country."

Thanks for the feedback, LaP! This is super-helpful and something I didn't even really notice 'til you mentioned it:

"It looks like your style leans toward integrating gear in a way that's more outdoorsy rather than urban-athleisure."

I will think on it.

Oh, I definitely still see a lot of prairie modern here! The shirt dresses, the blush brogues, the plaid jacket, the round collar blouse with the drawstrings -- I get a bit of a vintage-prairie vibe from all of these, but yes, very current feeling due to colour palette and minimalist detailing.

It looks like your style leans toward integrating gear in a way that's more outdoorsy rather than urban-athleisure, and your casual and gearish pieces, from the Finds, look like they all play nicely together. (I have a very similar approach -- trying to shop for gear that will mesh with my existing casual colour palette, etc.

Anyway, not sure I can think of a better moniker. "Modern Explorer" perhaps?

Hi, everyone. My taste is changing! Which feels a little scary because I'm a careful spender and without a sharp focus to taste-wise I feel in danger of making too many mistakes. (Don't mind a mistake or two here and there but really do try to avoid.)

If you have a moment, would you be willing to help me brainstorm a style moniker to help me focus? When I started here I'd have described what I like as Prairie Modern. My comfort zone fashion-wise is in vintage. I like pretty, feminine things, natural fabrics, but also live a very "geary" lifestyle with lots of opportunities to be outdoors, on trails, hiking and stuff. What I'm finding as I shop is that I'm very drawn to a more modern, minimal sleeker look (COS) and bright colored gear. How to reconcile? They all work in my wardrobe, just don't know how to describe.

Recent finds below for reference.
