I had similar skirt. All that fabric swishing while walking felt beautiful! But the odd placement of waist, the self belt and the whole process of figuring out how on earth to style it was simply too much. I even dyed it to my favourite colour and it did not help warm up to it. I tried to make it work and hang on to it for a couple of seasons, and then donated it. Never regretted and never missed it.

I think is could be a cute skirt but the proportions seem off. It might work with different shoes or, as others have said, it it were sitting higher at your waist. I like it with the tee.

Lovely skirt! I agree with the others that it's sitting too low. Also, I think low-contrast heels or flats would help focus attention on the loveliness of the skirt. But what really doesn't convince me is the color. I just feel like a brighter, warmer color would look better on you. The pale grey is kind of washed-out looking.

Since you know that this is a look you love, you might consider giving away or selling this skirt and buying one with the right fit and a fabulous color for summer.

I agree with those who say it might be sitting too low. Try having it tailored so it sits higher on your torso? I think it's making your torso look long and your legs look a bit short as it is right now. Otherwise, the outfit components definitely work together to make a harmonious whole.

I think it's a great skirt and I love the bow and waistband! I think they add something (structure maybe?).
The fabric gives it an a-line shape that I like.
I agree with Rachy and Gigi and l'abeille:
1. Wear a heel. The ballet flats make it look like you are a ballerina...That's just my opinion, but I think this type of a-line full skirt can use a dose of sophistication that can be had with a heel.
2. Wear it a little higher in your waist. The fist think I noticed was that it was too low.
3. I think the hem should be at your knee. It might just fall at your knee if you wear the skirt higher.

I think the form-fitting top was the right call.

To my eye, the proportions are off because the top and skirt are equal in length (a pet peeve of mine). Also, my eye wants to tell me that the waistband is at your true waist, so your legs appear shorter than they really are. By folding over the waistband twice you've removed length from the skirt, which compounds it.

My suggestion: pin the waistband so it fits at your natural waist. Wear it there with this same top and shoes and put the photos side by side. If it looks better, you can decide about altering it (easy if gathers, hard if pleats). And then decide if you want to keep the bow; removing it would increase your options for tops eg cropped untucked, denim or moto jacket, even twinset and pearls if that's your thing.

I would like to see what it looks like when it sits higher up, at your true waist. As another person noted, you could pin it to see what it would look like. If that looks good, then I would take the skirt to a tailor and see if it can be altered.

At first glance, a huge amount of fabric. It's because of the way the pleats sit I think. I think in styling, with it being too big for you and all that fabric, you couldn't have done a better job. I think it still looks flattering considering all that. The white and grey top is perfect, the shoes are perfect, your hairstyle really suits the outfit. It's clearly sentimental to you?

My suggestions:
- Remove the waistband, or at least most of it (in particular the bow).
- Save the fabric you remove. You can use it as a scarf/shawl, with this outfit as well as with many others, year round.
- Get the skirt tailored so that it fits at your waist.

The top is fine.

With your light grey skirt (a great basic, especially for S/S), you can wear tops in many different colours. Just remember to tuck them in.

Cute shoes!

Maybe a tailor could adjust the waist, or even remove the bow, to make it a bit less fussy. I do like the full skirt portion.

I kind of love it - I am a big fan of full skirts, even if they are not always easy to wear.

Is it sitting at your true waist? It seems to be riding a bit low, but that may be an illusion created by the wide waistband.

I think the skirt is calling for wedge platform espadrilles. I.e., more leg. It *is* a lot of fabric to compete with.

I think that's a whole lot of fabric -- maybe too much for you. I'd try pinning the waistband down to size so it can sit on your waist and then trying it on again. It might be worth altering, or it might simply need to go to someone else.

I'm not native English and might have misunderstood, but are you saying that the skirt two sizes big and you have to double the waistband to wear it?

I like the skirt with your cute shoes, chunky pearls and graphic tee, but wonder if the skirt looks better if you tie it a bit higher so it doesn't sit on your hips?

But if it is too big and fiddly to put on, you could take it in at the waist or it might be time to pass it on to someone who can wear it without all the adjustments. What do you think?

ETA: why don't you want to get rid of it? What is holding you back? Sentimental reasons, CPW, buyers remorse, any other reason?

Hey ya'll. I love this skirt, but it's been hanging in my closet for YEARS because I couldn't figure out what to wear with it. Today was a "Wear or Get Rid of it" day. I thought the outfit was ok, but now I'm second guessing and I think there's something wrong, but I can't figure out what. I think it's not flattering. Is it not defining my waist? It is too long? Too much bulk at the waist? (Granted the skirt is two sizes too big and i have the waist band doubled over itself and hidden by the sash bow). Any ideas on how to save this outfit? Or a better type/style of top to wear with this skirt? I don't wanna get rid of it! Help!!
