When you need to readjust your sliding jeans many times a day, it's a sign your jeans are too big. You think others don't see it... but they do. Believe me. It happened to me too.

You could stop wearing those pairs for a while, and explore other dressing styles, dresses, leggings with long shirt dresses, etc.

You could also get yourself another pair of cheaper jeans that are your current size, to wear now.

Go to second hand and consignment stores and try things there, maybe you'll find something at a very good price that fits your present body.

No need to continue wearing clothes that fit another you. It will keep you in a blue mood, b/c you have in mind the way they looked when they fit, whereas now they don't look the same. It will bother you. You are setting yourself up to dissatisfaction. .

Just an idea.

Another vote for "hold off for a bit and wear a belt". So many times have I dropped pounds out of the blue because of a change in activity level, stress, low appetite, whatever and it usually creeps back on me within a few months.

For what it's worth, I never really watched my weight (save for my junior year abroad in college when I KNEW I had gained weight due to 6 months of soaking in Spanish olive oil) but assumed I had always been a steady weight without much attention to my diet or exercize--I was a size 6 through and through.
Then I turned 32, experienced some stress in work and in my personal life (though that wasn't a totally new thing for me) and dropped 15 lbs without trying. I didn't look too thin, by any means, just better. Suddenly virtually everything I owned was too big as I found myself squarely in a size 2/4 range.
This is all to say...you NEVER know. I've never had kids so I'm not factoring any of that in. But am just saying that your weight may, at one point, "settle" and it may or may not be your current weight. So my 2 cents is to not get too attached to your premium denim collection. And/or, consider making besties with a tailor; perhaps start my tailoring one or two pairs of jeans that will carry you through this current weight reapportionment. And if it turns out to be a long-term situation, you can alter the rest, as need be.

Excepting the possibility of an immaculate conception, I will not be getting pregnant for the foreseeable future. To clarify, 10 years actually isn't a lot, considering I started putting this collection together five years ago.

So, I'm going to ride it out for the summer since I won't be wearing jeans anyway. I will maintain my normal cupcake eating habits but certainly won't be adding to them!

I'd definitely hold off on altering the jeans -- not because I think that you will necessarily gain weight, because you may well stay this size -- but because there really is no way to tell, especially if you're not sure why you lost the weight in the first place. If you are in your 20s, you may have lost your "puppy fat," and this is your new size for the next decade. This happens to lots of women. Or, it could be just stress weight loss and you might gain in back in a few months. Also, keep in mind that if you ever become pregnant, your shape will likely change again (although not necessarily for the worse).

One alternative is, like you said, to just not wear your jeans until enough time has passed that you're fairly sure your weight loss is the new you. Maybe you could alter only one pair of jeans -- your least favourite pair -- at first.

So I just got home for Mother's Day, where I have a scale, and it seems I haven't actually lost any weight. So my inclination is to think it's the result of my activity level rather than stress, which makes me think this is a more permanent situation. One thing I didn't consider was that I hadn't eaten much all day when I measured, so maybe I was a little more shrunken than normal.

My weight does not fluctuate a lot at all. I am always within 5 pounds and don't expect that to change, barring any unforeseeable health issues. I won't be having kids so nothing to consider there. It's true that I may change in my 30's, but I don't think that is something I should be accounting for right now. Maybe I will and maybe I won't.

I haven't had big swings in my weight over time, but things have definitely changed. I was 95lbs when I was 25 and I've added nearly 30 lbs over the last 17 years. It added to my bra size, too. I haven't had children so I can't blame that.

I'd give it until fall, Maya. Stress burns calories for me like nothing else, so that may be it for you. I'd hate to see you alter your lovely clothes and then have them not fit the way you want to later.

MPJ, I agree, April's solution is yummiest!!
I suppose not having kids is the major difference in our life timeframes Life for me settled down after 30. I found a great guy and we have a peaceful, loving, unstressful life together. Before that it was more chaotic and unpredictable. Trying relationships, moves, late night socializing and the bad food choices that go along with it - heck even having my wisdom teeth pulled - all added up to big swings on the scale.
I suppose it demonstrates that we're all very different. I guess I learned what my body needed to stay healthy and how to go about keeping on top of it.

Mo - that's interesting. I found my weight to be the most stable - no twists and turns for me. Single, no kids, relatively healthy and had time to eat right and exercise. Then came marriage and kids (body changes) in my thirties, and I expect changes in my 40's and 50s (related to getting older, etc). But my twenties were a golden age with sizes for me. :)

ETA - but I believe April has come up with the best solution! :)))

Maya, in my 20's my weight bounced more than any other time in my life. Down to 109 and up to 139, in a 5 year span. There tend to be more twists and turns in the early adult years. Not until my mid 30's did I stay at the same steady weight. Definitely put the jeans on 'hold'!

My waist might be shrinking but it's still short, so decorative belts are still not my cuppa tea. Most belts wouldn't sit at my waist anyway.

I have tried belting my jeans, but it doesn't seem to help. It just makes awkward lumps under my clothes from where the fabric bunches up.

It's probably true that I won't be wearing jeans beyond this month, though, so I guess I'll just let it rest until fall.

I see that you are in your 20's. In my late teens and early 20's I was always between 120-130 lbs and a size 7/8...even after having my first 3 babies by age 23. Something happened, though, when I hit 26! I don't know what it was, but my body changed A LOT and has never been the same...I look good for having had 5 babies, but not as small as I once was. And might I add that my waist was NEVER 24.5"...lucky girl!

How long have you had the premium denim collection? I mean, are you only hoping to have these particular pairs for another 2 years, another 5 or closer to 8? Because a LOT can happen in 10 years.

I'd say your weight is stable if you feel like your exercise habits are consistant and your diet is also consistant and easy to maintain. Ten years ago, I was single and childless. Now I'm married with two kids. Although my weight is virtually the same, my hip measurement is a bit more generous. I have had to discard many a pair of jeans - none premium, though!

Still, I agree with the posters who suggest waiting til the fall, at least. Sorry it's so annoying!

I've had the opposite problem but I think the above solution would hopefully work in the meantime. Wait it out (the weight loss) for a bit of time to see if your weight and your measurements (more importantly) stabilize there before doing alterations. I would never alter during periods of stress b/c you don't know if your body is just reacting temporarily. (You should see my alteration pile...) Belts help too.

How can you tell if weight loss is permanent (or at least semi-permanent), or if it's just a short-term thing? I measured my waist yesterday and it is the smallest it has been in my entire adult life at 24.5". That's great and all--but it does mean the waistband in a lot of my jeans and pants doesn't fit anymore. I am reluctant to alter because I am VERY attached to my premium denim collection and planned to get at least 10 years out of it. But short term it's kind of annoying that my jeans keep sliding around and I have to adjust them every time I stand up. I bought this in the meantime but it's a little awkward and I'm afraid it might just be stretching and distorting my jeans even more:

http://hollywoodfashionsecrets.....p-huggers/

Part of the reason for the loss is probably stress, but part of it is also just from the fact that I'm much more active, so it's hard for me to say whether this is how it is from here on out, or if I'll go back to normal. As I said, I have never been this small before so part of me feels a bit suspicious.
