My favorite of the lot is the third one (VC). I can't say exactly why I like it, but I am drawn to it far more than any of the others.

I next like the burgundy one.

Hope this helps you a little.

Suz, You're right, my Better/Fewer will be higher/lower for others' closets so that's not a good question to ask. It's a good idea to order them all (and give DH apoplexy!)... but why not? It's Nordstrom! I will first take a look at the NAS offerings, though – thank you for your expertise.

DonnaF, thanks for your expert eye about defining the body flattering elements of the different styles shown... do I want to look athletic and dynamic or curvy and huggable in it?... I do want a light-weight coat as I have heavier ones for colder weather.

IMHO, the Vince Camuto one looks the most tomboy, is the most shoulder broadening, and is most likely to show a sweater at the hem because it is the shortest jacket you've shown. The berry jacket would be most hip broadening, and the packable zigzag one looks like it would be most forgiving of big hips. It may also be warmest because it is the longest.

From photos, I think it's hard to tell the warmth of a jacket or smoothness of a zipper slide. The berry one gets my vote as the one most likely to look better in person than in the photo because it is hard to see the different quilting pattern in the arms and shoulders in the photo.

Bernardo also makes quilted jackets and vests, but maybe they're too warm for your purposes? DD and I love our Bernardo puffer vests from last year.

First, the "better/ fewer" question depends entirely on your budget. What's mid-range for one is high-end for another and completely unaffordable for a third.

Since this is Nordstrom, I say order them all and try them on! You can't tell things about the fit, the fabrication, etc. just online. Or how it will look on you, and how it will feel - -because the feel of the jacket is super important.

You look good in black and wear it well so I wouldn't worry about that if you like it. You can always ensure you are wearing a lighter top or scarf with it to brighten things up. Having said that, I like the berry colour a lot.

These may look similar yet may not be equivalent in terms of warmth, rain resistance, etc. So I would read the fine print looking for the features you are after.

I need help practicing for shopping the NAS! I have a lightweight, black quilted “barn coat” that I wear often, fall and spring mostly that I’d like to replace. It’s has a squarish shape, a bit below-hip-bone length, it slides very easily over my sweaters or coats and I can happily slide my hands in its pockets. I went to the Nordstrom website and looked at the coats currently on sale (I know this is not NAS offerings yet) just to practice my eye and judgment.

I collected the ones that appealed to me so far. The first is the holy-grail, quite unaffordable for me and not available in my size either. Of the other four, assuming they all fit me perfectly should I go for the details that have more impact? I do want a defined waist. Is the berry one too boring? My style persona(s) are (ok don’t laugh) urban minimalist and tomboy. I also like feminine details and a bit of edge. I don’t want to look like I’m going hunting, lol. Should I not go for black since I would wear it in the spring too? And if the original price is high-ish but on sale, should I assume it’s still decent quality, or decide when I see the item? Are the ones I’m looking at worthy of "Better/Fewer" or am I aiming too low with the brands? Please help me practice my shopping chops – maybe I will find something better at the NAS that would stretch my budget but within reason – I’d appreciate your thoughts!
