Maybe you are a "soft" winter. Check out

http://www.thechicfashionista.com

She has an excellent collage of celebritiy pics to illustrate soft vs. clear, cool vs. warm, and light vs. dark. I learned that I am more "soft" than anything else. My contrast is medium and I'm only slightly more cool than warm.

My only problem with the clear winter thing is that your eyes appear to be more marble-y than glass-y, but perhaps they look different in person! Either way, pick clothing in colors you enjoy that make you glow, and don't be afraid to shine.

Rae, that's exactly what I'd picked as the closest thing. So maybe that's it! At least that should be a good working premise for now. Figuring this out is like determining body type, for me. I can talk myself into practically every category.

I am naturally attracted to nature colors, which I've always thought of as mossy green, browns, etc., so the switch to bright/saturated colors has been an interesting ride. I think I felt more comfortable in muted colors because I was afraid of being outgoing or taking center stage. Now I'm trying to take my inspiration from the sea and more dramatic parts of nature, and I'm trying to express my bolder, outgoing side, especially now that I have to get up in front of students to teach. Plus, who wants to look washed out and blech, anyway?

I also think that--with your fair skin and dark hair--you trend toward the cool/high contrast side of the spectrum. Heathered browns usually look better on warmer complexions.

I would agree with rae that you seem cooler. I would venture you are a cool winter or a cool spring. However, I think you can wear black well, but I would debate back and forth over whether or not you are contrasty enough for it to be your best neutral. I am a deep autumn and we have similar shades of hair (darkness wise, obviously mine is warm) and pale skin and I am not sure that that alone would be enough to make me a deep/look good in black--- I have secondary modifiers like the fact that my eyebrows and eyelashes substantial are blacker that "black brown" and I have very obvious very dark grey rings around my eyes. So, when I wear black it makes my eyes pop. IMO-- you are much more Kimberly Williams and Kate Middleton in coloring than Jennifer Connelly. Perhaps immediately between the two?

I'm definitely not an expert on this but, you seem cool and fairly high contrast - moreso in your WIW than in this pic. I think that is why you like the brights. Keep in mind that your colors also should reflect your personality, so maybe that is why you dislike the browns and heathered colors.

Since we seem to be talking colors today, I would love help figuring out my season/element. My eyes are blue with a golden ring around the iris - that doesn't seem to come through in the photo. Sometimes they seem green. I have quite noticeable veins on my chest, arms, and even face, so I'd say me skin is translucent.

I think I look better in brights and saturated colors. But every time I read the "analyze your season" articles, I seem to identify with many of the options. My favorite colors to wear are blues (cobalt, teal, peacock...), and my best neutrals (I think!) are black and white. I used to wear a lot of heathered colors and brown, and looking back on that period, I just think "blergh." I am not sure though and want to make sure that the colors I choose going forward don't give me that feeling in 10 years!
