So strange about different fabrics for different colors! Something I’ve encountered recently is the fabric content not being displayed until the size is selected. That makes no sense to me.

I'm late here, but just nodding along with your decisions and sympathizing -- also adding that Angie and Roxanna are dead right about fabrication -- sometimes the same pant style that is awful in one fabric will work well even in the same size in a different fabric!

Liesbeth, I hope they work out! Caution on the dark grey version of the BR pants - they don't have wool content like the beige ones do - they are mostly polyester. In case that matters to you (I am very picky about fabric content.) Anchie I hope you are able to find them too!

Angie, I also liked the BR pants Roxana shared and did find them on the EU site but only when using the search function (searched 'elastic'). Very weird. I have them on order because half price right now! Also available in dark grey it seems.

Anchie, do you have access to Anthropologie? I wonder if their essential trousers might work? I usually have to alter pants in the back - my seamstress just laughs when I come in as it’s always the same fit issue, but the Anthro’s worked out of the box.

You are right. I had both my velvet Boden pants altered a whole size down because I was sized out.

Actually, the J.Crew pants you tried don't work on me either. Too clingy, stretchy and big in the waist! I don't fancy that fabric.

But these checked J.Crew pants were different! Stretch wool. AMAZING fabric and lining. But they had to be altered at the waist too. Now they are perfect :)

Thank you all for the feedback.
Angie - pants are already packed and ready to be returned. I do have few of the same pants from the first group and I agree they all have good fit at the waist, except Boden plaid pair, but I think mine are wrong size - I was still loosing weight when I got them. From other group, I have one pair - Boden red velvet and they also fit me ok, but I got them in smaller size than my usual. I remember how surprised I was that smaller size was only smaller at the waist - which worked for me. But you were probably not able to size down. If I have a chance, I always like to try pants that worked for you, because they often work for me too. Not this time though.

I think all the pants should go back. First two, too tight. But the turquoise is the best of the three. Not too tight, but very Summery.

Anchie, I've dressed you, and your bottom half is a similar shape to mine. Not that curvy, so curvy fits will probably be too roomy in the legs and thighs, like they are for me.

But we have the same waist challenge at the BACK with high rises - like your pic #7 is showcasing - because of sway back tendencies, and not curvy hips. I usually have the back waist altered now that rises are high. It was not a challenge with lower rises.

Pants and jeans I have NOT had to alter:

As a fellow person with a curvier figure, I agree that these pants are made for a straighter figure. I've been down this road too many times to count! My eye agrees with yours--I actually thought the blue pair was the least flattering of the lot. I was borderline OK with no. 10, but the fit could definitely be better. I agree that returning them all would be the best thing to do. It's too bad, because they sure are cute from the front.

I unfortunately can't recommend any brands for curvier figures as far as work pants go. I work mostly from home so don't have a need for tailored work pants. If I did, I would probably look for pants specifically labeled as "curvy fit". You could also check out Good American, if that line is available to you. That label is generally cut bigger in the booty. I just went to their website, and they do have some pants, but most of them are unfortunately not work appropriate. I have a pair of black jeans from them, and they could pass for skinny pants, the material is so nice. A lot of the stuff I've tried from GA has fit well.

JCrew is out for me. The fit model they use must be very narrow and straight. Massimo Dutti, Boden, and a lot of BR as well. I do well with American designers Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein who cut for ‘athletic’ X’s - broad shoulders and long arms and legs.

I agree, Anchie, once you’ve found a designer or ‘house’ that cuts for a fit model with your shape - it makes shopping (online) so much easier.

Anchie, it's not you, it's the pants! I suspect they're made for a straighter body, and you have a beautiful waist! Also, some pattern or texture will disguise any VPL, while solid colours don't. You could try Simone Perele or Chantelle for their invisible underwear?

This is why I don’t buy dress pants. . .J. Crew and BR tend to be cut for straighter body types. My sense is that Boden is as well. I think Talbots may be cut for waists but I don’t know if they are available in Europe.

While I understand that you don’t want to show off your cute round tush at work, 18 makes it look like a rectangular flat pack, which is not something you want to do to yourself. I liked one of the red pairs, but understand that you’ve got them all packed up to go back. I no longer have a bubble butt, so can’t give advice on brands, but do think it might be worth your while to go into a department store. We are often pleasantly surprised here at how very well SAs know their wares—quite different from the US, where some are real pros and others just there to pick up rent/spending money while they study something else in school.

Interesting how pictures can be deceiving- I had biggest issue with 18-19. They had even larger gap arround the waist than pink, and because they don’t have belt loops they would require alterations, and they also had extra fabric and drooping in crotch area that I really don’t like.

I have to agree with those who feel only the last pair 18-19 shows a proper fit. Maybe it’s the soft fabrication, or the rise is too short? Sometimes there’s just a fine line (that one shouldn’t cross) between a comfortably snug, trim-looking fit and too revealing. That may be what’s happening with these pants - you’re probably right that this isn’t the model for you.

Roxanna - it is so frustrating. I don’t think I own good fitting pants in winter weight at the moment. I think I will also have to make peace with alterations.

Hi Anchie - I find Theory pants to be about the same sizing as J Crrw, but it really depends on the fabric (they come in all sorts of blends.) pants are soooo difficult - it took me about a year to get a collection that fit well and looked good!

Thanks, Andrea, will check them out too. Pants can be so difficult. Too many variables.
