Wow, thanks for all the help everyone - you have no idea how much I appreciate it!

One more question about the jeans - the back side on these do not need to be covered like the leggings?

I think both the jeans and the leggings look great on you, and I especially like the leggings- you look very slim and trim in them. The outfit in #4 looks super!

I don't mind the boots with the jeans, but I would prefer them with the leggings.

Great choices! YLF!

Hi Pil --

I think the jeans in #1 are more flattering than your current pair (#2) -- seems like a good use of your money! Agree with others that your legs are long and slender in general, and the jeans ac-cen-tu-ate the positive.

Also love the waterfall cardigan on you. Personally I like a mid-thigh or longer length top with leggings, so I'd probably like the sweater better over the jeans...but I like the general direction of #4 and the leggings seem nice and sleek.

Seems like you have some (fun) decision-making to do!

Hi PIL!

Everyone should have a slim, dark-washed classic jean in their "jean capsule." These are great, and better than the Canyon Blues you have already. I love jeans like this, because they accent the waist in a flattering way with no muffin top. I have a pair of JAG denim and another pair of Levi's like this. That said, I find the higher rise doesn't faux or semi tuck well, so I like at least one pair of lower rise, too.

No ice cream cone, here! Thighs, even pretty slender ones, curve. They're 3D, not 2D, with curvy fronts and sides, particularly. I think the ones you have here are skimming, not highlighting, these curves.

Both tops have lovely color and flow and are great for casual day --- I love them on you, but you don's say how you feel in them. For myself, I do prefer a little more structure in tops, or a least woven fabrics, for dressier looks. Have you tried the jeans with jackets yet, or button downs?

I have a pair of midcalf taupe boots. I love them, but hey are harder to style than booties or tall boots. Mine are narrower to my ankle and lower calf, and I couldn't really tuck like you do here, so I do wear my BF's rolled to almost the top of the boot. I also wear them under pants, or with skirts.

All look really good, and if I had to choose one to say NO it would be #2. The thing that throws me off on all of these is the boots. I don't know if its the material of the upper or the style or what... I think maybe those kinds of boots don't go well with jeans that are tapered at the bottom, which is unfortunately the style right now. They would be better with boot cut jeans, IMO. But the jeans and black trousers/leggings are find, not offensive at all!

I agree the first pair of jeans are by far a better fit on you. The leggings are fine -I agree with Jenava that you are seeing flaws that aren't there. The cardigan and the top are great - I hope you keep them.

@Ruby, thanks and welcome! I like the idea of cuffing above a shorter boot and like it on others - just not so sure about it on me :)
@Suz, both pair of these jeans would get plenty of wear, so I'm leaning toward keeping the pair in #1. I'll have to seriously consider the Pleione top too.
@Jenava, we're our own worst critics, eh? Thanks for the affirmation! You definitely have a point about the bunching. I do like the look of mid calf boots with skirts on others - I'm still working on pushing myself to try things that aren't so "Mom-ish".
@Kelly, thanks! I keep crossposting with you tonight Not being as slender as so many here I struggle with whether it is my size/shape or styling that interferes with a successful look.

Love the jeans in 1. The fit is so much sleeker and I prefer the pocket placement compared to the ones in 2. I think the leggings look great. They fit you perfectly and will work tucked into boots as well. I don't mind the slouchy jeans tucked into the boots. I do that often but think you need a sleeker top to counter the slouch on the bottom--or layer a structured knit blazer on top. Just my 2 cents

Jeneva hit on something -- did you try the leggings in these boots? Because the other way it might work better is if the leg line is super sleek. I wondered about that in my own case, too.

Wow, I think you look fantastic in all of these! I especially LOVE the first pair. I do think you should keep these. I think your eye is exaggerating your body flaws, because I think you look pleasingly trim in all of these. I see no saddlebags, and I see no ice cream cone. I looked at the photos first, then read your post to see what you could possibly be concerned with, so I can honestly say, I did NOT see what you are seeing when I looked at the photos. I actually had to go back and look to see if I missed something...I didn't. You look fantastic and should wear all of these with confidence.

I do like the shorter booties with the jeans, just because it looks like the pant legs are uncomfortably bunched in the last shot.

Love that Pleione top, love that top, love that top on you!!!

Um...did I mention that I love that top?

Okay, onto the pants. LOVE the jeans in #1. If you had not told me that #2 was already in your closet I would have said, keep #1. #2 are perfectly okay, but #1 is great. To my eye, there is just a tiny bit too much scrunch on them...I'd have them hemmed a little bit. But that is personal preference and I would listen to what others (and your own eyes) say as well. The one thing I don't know about is whether these tend to bag out. Again, others may have wisdom that I lack.

The leggings are fantastic with both tops shown. And with any similar type of top.

As for #5...this is my own dilemma, too, with the moto boots I bought at NAS. I am thinking I might send them back, much as I like them. Because, well, this is how I feel, too. For the record, I do not actually think that you look like an upside down ice cream cone. But I do see the issue. It might be reduced if the boots were closer in colour value to the jeans. But....yeah. Maybe this is a problem that 5'4" tall women face with this height of boot shaft. I recall when I tried mine on there was much discussion about whether or not they'd do -- and considerable disagreement, with some loving them and some decidedly not loving them on me, whether with skirts, opaque tights, sheer tights, or pants. Pants were best....but not the greatest.

1. Your eyes are not off. Those look great on you. Very flattering!

2. The 1st pair really compliments you.

3. Better with the top in place.

4. Now with that sweater...love, perfect!

5. How about cuffing them above a shorter boot?

Hope that helps. First time giving advice, feels strange.

The pictures from my recent Nordstom Personal Shopper appointment were not very good, so I've taken additional shots at home in the hopes you will help me evaluate the jeans and leggings.

1. Is the NYDJ dark wash jean. The tag actually says legging, but they are stretch denim. They feel great and look good to me in the mirror at home, but maybe my eyes are off? What do you think of the fit? These are a pricey proposition for me.

2. For comparison's sake this Is a black Canyon River Blues jean from Sears which is currently in my closet. No contrast stitching on the back pockets to speak of.

3. The NYDJ black leggings. Giddyup saddlebags :( Again, very comfortable, but are they offensive? Added a view from behind with the top in place.

4. Another pairing with the NYDJ black leggings, this time with the Chaus waterfall cardigan and Dobbin tank.

5. I really can't wear this look in boots, can I? Something is off to me, I think I look like one of those pointy ice cream cones because of the curves of my thighs. Maybe I'm better off with something like a pair of Chelsea boots that will fit under the skinnies. (FWIW this is the Pleione dolman sleeve top from the appointement with the denim bottoms)

Thanks for any suggestions you might have to offer - I really appreciate it!
