Yes, I'd definitely say you're an hourglass. I'm also seeing a high waist and long rise (I think). Since you asked about drop-waist dresses and the like, I thought I'd add that tust because you have a waist and can easily define it doesn't mean you're required by law to do so at all times. Feel free to play around with straighter or more voluminous or avant-garde shapes if you feel drawn to them. (I'm an hourglass too so I'm talking to myself here as much as to you). See how you feel. Some things might work and others might not but you never know for sure until you try. You can always post pics here to get feedback.

I love Downton (and agree that you're an hourglass as well) - maybe some of the tailored jackets that Mary sports may be an easier style for you to adopt? She also has some very pretty dresses that are more small-waist friendly (finding pictures of them on the other hand - haha).

She has a very pretty burgundy blazer/jacket that she wears in Season 2 when she goes to "invite Matthew to lunch" and runs into Lavinia - I can't find a pic of that one :p

The other hourglass friendly dress I was thinking of was the Christmas Special (Season 2) in which Matthew proposes. :)

LOL. Thanks for giving me an excuse to look at Downton Abbey pics!

Lovely hourglass, as the others say! You should have lots of choices, but yeah...a drop waist dress might not be one of them. Although never say never. If the RIGHT one came along...

Oh, yeah, drop-waist dresses are hard for basically any grown woman to make work in this day and age...

I think you're hourglass verging on rectangle. You have a lovely figure and I'm sure MANY things flatter you. Just step away from the drop-waist dresses! (-:

Although, I should say, in general I know what flatters me and I DON'T always wear that. the better rule of thumb is to gravitate towards what makes you feel fab...which may mean initially trying out a lot of things and maybe makinga few mistakes along the way.

That's for the input! So the most waist definition, the better, probably?

Is that a no-go for drop-waisted dresses? I've been lusting after some of the dresses on downtown abbey but those ladies are all so THIN! le sigh...

Rectangle/hourglass is my guess. Looks like a high waist and a long rise, too.

You seem like a very balanced hourglass to me. You don't seem too extreme, though, so you should have most of the benefits without having to worry about making yourself accidentally too vaavava voom. Now purposeful vavava voom, that's another matter. ; )

After taking these photos, I have realized that my hips are slightly bigger than my shoulders. How did I not ever notice this before? When did my behind become so wide?!

I have typical hourglass measurements (36-27-36) but the smallest part of my waist doesn't really last very long, haha!

I have a somewhat large chest (32DD/34D depending on maker/type), which doesn't really come across in these photos, which is weird to me, too! I guess maybe since it's been something I've been getting attention for since middle school that I thought it would be more noticeable...? Also could just be the shirt, I guess.

Anyway, can any of you fine ladies help me with my body type? I never really know what to wear that compliments my body so I just willy nilly pick things that I like the look of. I have been gravitating a lot towards leggings and longer tunics lately, with boots, but not really sure if it's maximizing anything. I tend to stay away from shorter length shirts because I feel it does weird thing to my proportions and makes me look like a big square. I also love boat neck shirts.
