Both options here work. #1 is more streamlined, a little more classic. #2 is trendier (and my preference). I do the undertucked hem that others mentioned if I want the more clean/streamlined look.

EDIT: Or this crazy sort of pant hem semi-tuck ;)

Oh, yes, I also do the "undertucked hem" to get the exact proportion I want, which works as long as not too bulky or obvious.

Maneera - These jeans look completely awesome on you. I'm with others in preferring the #2 look with the rolled hems. It's just a little more youthful, I find.

Maneera......Try tucking the hems under so they hit just at the top of the bootie. That's what I do. I'm petite and I find this more flattering on me than the outward roll. You don't get the visual break of the roll and you still see the entire bootie. Keeping the pants and bootie low contrast, like you've done here, works best too.
I struggled with the skinny jean and bootie look until I discovered this trick.

I don't love the rolled hem idea either but on you the reality is pretty cute and making me rethink my former dislike.

The hems don't make your legs look shorter at all and there's something kind of sassy about the look that's flattering.

The shorter but not committed to cropped jeans look a little like you're trying to get some wear out of awkward length pants.

What Diana said. I also have several skinnies that are snug at the ankle and scrunch at the hem like churidars and work well with fitted ankle boots. That is my favorite look as it prevents the possibility of gapping in winter.

I like rolled. The problem with the length like #1 is that the hems don't really know what do to. Like, do they want to be in the boot? On top? Scrunched up on top? In my experience it always does some odd combination of the three, with some weird pooching in there too....and even if you get it just right it all goes to pot when you move around. The skinny jeans tucked into short boots thing has never worked well for me unless they are very fitted at the ankle (so it works with my jeggings and that's about it). You avoid all those problems by rolling.

I like the rolled look, but I can see how you might feel like it's a little too RATE for your style. You might have to up the polish factor on the rest of the outfit (maybe with a structured jacket/bag?) to have it feel more like you.

It took my eye awhile to adjust to the rolled look, but now I like it best (#2). The jean, folded to the inside, is something I do too. They stay if narrow enough, but you can press them or even add fashion tape to hold them if needed.

I like them here better rolled. I think it is ok to keep the jeans outside the booties when the jeans are a bit looser around the ankle but once they are clinging to the boot rolling, folding or hemming look better.

Thanks Stephanie. I think I'll need to train my eye to like this combo Oh well....if not, I have plenty of tall boots to tuck my skinnies into....and bootcut jeans to wear with the ankle boots

The idea I think may work - go monochromatic. Black skinnies+black boots may look best as it'll lengthen the leg line. In any case, I feel i'll need to aim for low contrast between jeans and boots....so these particular jeans may need cognac/tan booties instead.

Ugh - I feel your pain! I have this same problem. I love my ankle boots but have trouble when it comes to styling them with my skinny jeans. Like you, I'm not a huge fan of rolling my skinny jeans but it seems to be the best way to wear this combo. To offset the fact that this can sometimes shorten my leg line, I like to wear a looser/flowy top partially tucked which usually works. I actually think the rolled hems look really great on you and work nicely with your ankle boots!

Thanks Denise, Di and Sterling. So I have to roll my jeans, or hem them shorter.

I only just remembered that whilst I was looking for ways to pair skinnies with ankle boots, one of the options said 'fold your jeans inwards so they look shorter'. I think I'll try that one too!

I agree with Denise. I like to roll hems to adjust the length to suit different boot shaft heights, but I'm also thinking of hemming some of my jeans /pants to a shorter length for variety. I think the roll looks good how you've done it Manny.

Yep, rolling them is a great way to modify your skinnies just for one day, to suit an ankle or mid-calf boot. Alternatively, you could shorten the hems a bit but then the jeans are harder to wear with other shoes. Still I will be doing this (shortening some of my jeans) just for a change.

Hi Fabbers,

Until last year, my winter uniform was skinnies/ponte leggings tucked into tall boots, worn with a variety of jackets and coats.

This year, I've added several bootcut jeans to my wardrobe and also bought ankle boots. I already did own a pair of grey-taupe heeled ankle boots which will get worn now...

What I'm trying to figure out is: How to wear ankle boots with skinny and straight leg jeans. I did a bit of Google search, saw how other Fabbers wear their booties, and decided I don't want a tucked-in look as I have short legs and ankle length boots cut off my leg line in a very unflattering way.

I tried my boots on today. These skinny jeans are cropped length so they sit almost *above* the boots. Can I wear them like shown in image #1?

Google search tells me that the best way to wear skinnies with booties is with rolled hems. I don't like to roll my jeans at all, but I guess I could do that the few odd times I wear skinnies with ankle boots. Since all my other boots are calf or just below knee length, I will not be wearing the combo very often. Is Image #2 better?
