I also like them both, but agree that the first ones are more fresh-looking. And you sound much more enthusiastic about these then the other ones, FWIW, which seems like an argument to go for them. And they do seem simple and streamlined enough that they wouldn't be likely to look dated that quickly.

Thank you for chiming in, Suz! My style is moving in a more minimalist direction and I feel like wearing more clean cut lines. Maybe the boho aspect is aiming at a more Heltmut-Lang-kind-of-style (though I have a long way to go!!). I think Manidipa made a post on boho history a while ago where she pointed at different types of boho.

Anyway, I want some shoes that I can just jump into and walk effortless everywhere. The style here is pretty relaxed and casual, but I discovered that I don't like it when the outfit becomes too casual. I need some kind of refinement (good fit and quality helps a lot!) and streamlining. As an answer to your question about which setting they should go in, I would say mostly business casual and smart casual, but also some MOTG (which is like smart casual?).

Good to hear that I'm not the only one struggling with ballet flats! Maybe it is my low vol foot.

I like Ecco a lot, but I find some of their shoes a bit too sporty or too classic. If that makes sense.

Harmonica, I really love those smoking slippers -- they are gorgeous. In your photo they almost look blush, but they seem like a very versatile neutral and feel fresher to me than the wedge.

Do they stay on your feet better than the ballet flat does?

My one reservation is that they seem a bit more polished/ minimal than your typical style, but your style may be moving in a new direction, and I recognize that these would be only one element of your outfit anyway. Plus, I assume they are mostly for work? (Your work capsule is more polished from what I recall and includes modern classics.)

As for the shoes falling off your feet, you are in good company. We've had a bunch of threads about this over the years. I can't wear ballet flats, full stop. And can't wear almost ANY low vamp shoe -- heck, I can't even manage a smoking slipper! This is because my heels are probably a double A width (very narrow) while my forefoot is a normal B width. I need a last that's especially designed for this. None of the inserts that are supposed to help with this actually solve the problem for me. So I simply have to adapt my style for my fit issue. Flats are worse than wedges (I have higher arches and insteps, too, and the wedge means more of the shoe is in actual contact with my foot -- the incline is right). But even heels and wedges can fly off my feet.

My main solution? Booties in cool weather. Sandals in warmer weather. It's not perfect, and sometimes I long to wear a pretty, leg lengthening pump, but I've only ever found a couple that will stay on. I hoard those two pairs whether their toe shape is "in" or "out."

Ecco is a good brand to try. One or two of their low vamp styles have worked for me over the years. Not every shoe, however.

Thank you for the input!

Laura: I used to dislike smoking slippers, but well, I must have adjusted
Linda: Thanks for the link. Those are nice!
Thistle: Right spotted - a closed toe is wanted, too. I don't mind loafers or oxfords with dresses and skirts.
Rabbit: Fresh is what I want!
dustt: Thanks for a unambiguous answer! :-)
Dee: Versatility is important to me. Hmmm, maybe I'll stick with contemporary and fresh rather than classic this time.

ETA: I have problems with finding ballet flats that are not slipping off my foot. Does anyone have the same issues?

I really like smoking slippers as an alternative to ballet flats, so I really like your first option. I can see it working well with a variety of colors and silhouettes.

The wedges you posted are also nice, but look a little more classic, so it probably just comes down to preference.

I actually like the look of smoking slippers more than round toed flats, they look more fresh to me. Depending on your skin color the first shoes could also function as a nude.

So of the three options the first are my favorite and seem the most contemporary to me. I like the sleeker shape with the subtle two-tone back.

I have a poison eye for the smoking slipper silhouette, so I'm not a fan of the first pair, even though the colors would be very versatile for the warmer months, I'd imagine. I like the second pair a lot.

I bought the DKNY Ana flats a few years ago (#2), but they have been a pain ever since. I've forced myself to wear them to make them soft, but they slip off and are too flat. As spring is almost here (though still 5-10C and pretty cold), I tried them yesterday and discovered.... toe cleavage. That sealed the deal and I'm putting them in the donation pile.

That means I'm on the lookout for some kind of replacement. They should be neutral, a low heel, comfy, dressed up and MOTG, streamlined, modern and classic. They should go with skirts, dresses and trousers.

#1 I find these fresh and comfy, but a bit expensive. Here is the link

ETA: I won't be wearing dark tights like in the pic :-)

Another option are these low wedges. They are neutral, even more comfy on the on the foot, but more expensive and not so fun as teh first pair. But they seem like neutral classics that will survive.

What are your thoughts?
