Being only 5'4", skirts are usually right at my knee or too long, so I'm not sure a slip like these would work for me, but I just saw this on another blog and thought I'd share ... http://www.cardiganempire.com/.....eaway.html

I don't know if slips are appealing to you, or if these even would work with your dress, but take a look!

Joy I like your thinking outside the box, but the only pencil skirts I have are a brown suede and a snakeprint and I don't know if either would work. I think that much layering would make the outfit too warm for the weather here as well.

Hmmmm well I have shown it to my 2 flatmates. One says not too short, the other says too short but I may be able to get it hemmed. She is tall like me and took down a dress with a similar hem (and did it with her own sewing machine the clever clogs!). It means there would be 2 bands of hem and stitching around the bottom of the dress though. It looks fine on her dress which is in a print fabric. I'm going to try an alterations place tomorrow to see what they say about mine. So there is still hope!!

I am so reluctant to say no because of how flattering it is on you. But it seems like it would be hard to wear on its own. I don't think it's as versatile as you're probably hoping it to be.

What about wearing a slim, longer, light-weight pencil skirt underneath the dress for a tiered affect when wearing the dress without tights or jeans? It could be a different texure of black (lace or velvet?) or a different neutral (like white, silver, or navy) or a color tht can be repeated in jewelry or a jacket or cardi (citron, aqua, or cobalt, etc.) or even a print, polkadot, or stripe.

I don't think it's too short. (I like short, though, usually.) It's short, sure, but not inappropriate. I think it's flattering, and if it's working for you, own the shortness, I say.

Argh bummer - no can do on the lengthening!! Instead of being a regular hem, there is a seam right underneath the hemline too.

I'd definitely feel ok in tights wearing it, but I'd want to wear it without tights too.

What's the official YLF verdict? Too short???

It does seem a bit too short, but it's *such* a flattering shape for you. I would take it to a tailor. It could be worth it.

Thanks for the feedback! So I was right to be concerned about the length hey? There is at least 4cm to the hem, but I'm not sure if it could be let down without the holes where the stitches were being obvious. I can always take it to an alterations place and ask.

Its a shame because I do like the way the bust fits - a bit more skin showing than I'd normally go for, but the straps are nice and wide and a bra underneath doesn't show. There's an exposed zip on the back which I really like as well.

If I can't get it taken down successfully, should that be a deal-breaker? I did like it over jeans too, but I want something I can wear as a standalone dress as well. This particular brand is never long enough for me.....grrrr!!!

As for me, I'm doing ok. Work is keeping me busy and keeping my mind off other things!

I love the dress on you, Tam! Versatile and very flattering. It’s just a dash too short. Can you let down the hem? If not, you could wear it over jeans – but that wouldn’t be as breezy.

How are you?

I'm not sure about this one Yublocka- for one thing it does seem a tad short, and there's alot of detail going on which might inhibit alot of styling options... I might keep looking if I were you.

Hi guys,

Sorry I've been a bit quiet of late. I've been working nights this week which throws me all out of whack. I will try to catch up on posts when I'm feeling a bit more awake :)

However I really wanted to post these pics for feedback. Went shopping with my brother today and picked up this LBD as a potential chrissie present from my brothers. Its a sort of sheeny, quite dressy material thats cut in a fairly casual style with pockets. I'm hoping that gives it the potential to dress it up and down.

What do you think? Too short?? Too casual looking to be dressed up should the occasion arise? I tried it on last week and liked it but am having doubts now. Its not cheap, so I want it to be something that will be versatile and wearable for a while to come.

Front on: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yublocka/4193520429/

Showing pockets: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yublocka/4193520751/

Detail of bust gathers: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yublocka/4193521145/

Thanks for your input!! I'm too tired to think too objectively about this!
