I think I need to wear a top out Angie since I am so round around the middle and backside these days (where did my full hourglass figure go weep...).

Its only 5am so will hunt for a shorter top when I am not waking the household. They were styled with an 80s style tee and a lace kimono in Mango but the colour was too wishy washy on me. I have the lace kimono as well thinking it would be easy to add a top. Ok back to the drawing board in a few hours... xx

With loose crops, I almost always need to cuff to a) get the length right and b) provide some structure. Can you take some pics with the pants cuffed/rolled to different lengths? That might help.

For a top, I'd probably look for something boxy, that hits at or just above the hip, with some structure -- a crisp poplin perhaps, or a chunky sleeveless sweater? Black and white would both be easy pairings, but a bright jewel tone could work too and be a little unexpected.

Does the drawstring cause the waist to gather? If so, that could be what's making the pants difficult to style. If the waist stays smooth, and the length is the problem, try rolling up or turning under the hems to see if an inch or two might make a difference. Try different kinds of footwear, too, until the proportions look right to your eye. As for tops, you probably have your own favorites, but I've been loving pale blue denim cropped jeans this summer with loose, very feminine lacy white cotton blouses.

I like the idea of black to keep things current, but I suspect the proportions are the key here.

Okay, here are some random ideas that came to mind:

A striped tee and white sneakers

a black boxy cropped tank and black heels

a bright shaped tee and sandals

double denim, with a bright jacket....

I think slightly shorter tops could work well with these pants, I am not sure about tucking, and I wonder if long ones would mess up the proportions....

These light denim crops came home with me, the look nice but... I am having trouble styling them with my existing pieces... I have looked at Angie's ensembles for colour ways but I think it might be wrong proportions or something. What might you suggest for these for summer...
