Where do I begin... You've all been very helpful and I was happy to read you comments which echoed pretty much every stage I went through with both of these frames.

So, the first frames (pictures 1&2) are the ones I went back for to the small shop to try different colors. This one was the only that was worth trying on. I was hoping for something a bit darker though, but because the frames were already a big step for me compared to all my previous frames (very subtle metal ones), I wanted to give them a chance. To me, they felt very natural with my face. At home, I tried them with all the colors I wear and they looked great, their burgundy/red color matches my hair color, but then I realized that they are actually very school-girly on me. They are pretty everyday frame, but not much more than that.

MH (why is the guy almost always right ) had hit the nail on the head when he asked if I wanted frames for the glasses that will help me see better or I wanted an accessory. I want an accessory. Your comments pretty much started showing me that too, when you labelled the second pair (pictures 3&4) as modern, chic and strong. My contact lenses are my main sight correction and I can step out into the big unknown of wearing a more daring frames design. I love the term Angie used - more dramatic. That really sums up everything I want. The second pair is brilliant and was chosen by MH, they have lovely b/w contrast that you can't see on my photos and a very delicate logo on the temples just as I prefer, but I felt they were a just a tiny bit too harsh against my features.

Thank you all again, each and every one, for your help, comments, time and wise insights into my internal conflicts I'll carry on looking and I'm now much more focused, which is what I really needed.

p.s.
Special bonus for those who were kind enough to bear with me through this thread, this is my little boy trying on one of the frames I considered. He didn't want to miss out on the action

Sorry it took me so long to get to this thread, Ornella.

Of the two frames, I prefer #1, but it's not quite killer yet. I think you need something a little wider and dramatic. So if you were shopping with me, we'd carry on looking. How do you feel about that?

As a frame-oholic, I can tell you that more than any other item I wear, I *know* the right frames immediately. You will too. All of these are fine, but none of them are that absolutely knock-out frame you deserve. Keep looking - it will be worth it.

Ellie, I can't look at the images and offer critiques based on the pictures, as you know, but you asked for an interpretation, and I'm offering one based strictly on the feedback you've received. The lack of concensus, both from the forum and your real-life friends, suggests to me that you haven't hit upon the right pair just yet. Your own internal conflict reinforces that for me. With glasses, I've always heard it's best to wait for "the one." Since you're not in desperate need of new frames, I'd suggest you reconcile yourself to a continuation of this arduous search. I know it's frustrating, and I wish it could be made fun for you, but hopefully some of the feedback you've received will take some of the guesswork out of the process and/or give you some new ideas.

Best of luck!

Not a problem at all, rae, I appreciate your honesty. It's what I am after

I've also asked my friends for their opinions and those vary just as much as the opinions on this thread. All that from the people who know me, know my older frames, know me in everyday life. I am actually happier than expected with what I've heard so far from everyone.

I really prefer #1 -- the shape looks much more natural with your features and hair style, and the color is more flattering. Personally, I don't like #2 at all... sorry! Everything about them just seems too severe against your face.

Hi Elly, I also prefer 1. I think that 3 and 4 are too rectangular and hard angles for you. You look much prettier, in my eyes, with a softer look and the little lift of the subtle cat eye glasses ( 1 ). Though I think you should look around a bit more if you can. I wouldn't worry about the color, it is soft enough that I think it will go with everything, if you do go with the first.

I have had the same pair of frames for 7 years because I have never found another pair that I liked !!!!! ( Though this year I found two frames ! )

Not issue at all Marley, it is so interesting to read your thoughts. You are all helping and I'm glad I asked you for the opinion.

That's why I used the term interpret in the title when asking if you can give your views. I'm not sure it's 100% in the spirit of the English language, but that's what I need: unbiased comments from the people who do know a thing or two about style and are willing to tell me how they perceive the frames and me with them on ;)

As I have said, I have no pressure to buy either, but I am at the crossroads and need to sharpen my focus a bit more with regards what exactly I am after. I have much better idea already. Your comments are much valued, please keep them coming.

I like # 2 much better than #1. They just look more current to me, chic and strong - like your features! (although they probably don't follow Angie's "rule" of bringing your eyes up at the upper outside edges!) Wow - I just went back and read the other comments - I don't think we're helping you much, aren't we????

I have to admit I don't love either of them *duck*

I like the color of the first, but the frames are a little too thin and the shape is too oval-y. But, they are definitely a start. I think the color looks pretty on your face, and I'd like to see the oval angle up and get thicker at the temples, like a cateye.

I much prefer #1/2 over #3/4. The color is pretty, the shape "lifts" your cheekbones, and there is a lightness to them and pretty detail on the side arm that I don't see in #3 and 4.

However... my instinct is that you should still keep looking. Glasses are an expensive investment, and you do not want to settle if you aren't absolutely sold on a frame. I still think that you can find something that you will love more if you keep searching. That's *really* awesome that they sales person let you take the frames home while you are making your decision, though.

I actually have the same experience while shopping for glasses. (I've posted a few of my glasses shopping threads here - feel welcome to dig around in my prior posts if you're interested to see my convoluted process.) My issue is that my face is very wide around the temples, so I feel lucky if I can find 1 or 2 frames that fit my face properly and don't pinch! There are certain glasses stores that I rule out simply because the brands that they carry are too narrow.
So then, once I find some that fit and that I don't think are totally ugly, I take pictures and try to figure out what is actually going to be flattering on my face and with my style. It can be a loooong, frustrating process, but finding killer frames that work for years is well worth it.

I think they both work with your face, but #1 does not seem interesting enough, while #2 would be better for you in a softer color. A hint of burgundy maybe, to go with your hair.
I comiserate with you, because shopping for prescription glasses is my nightmare, too, and I have been wearing them on and off for 30 yrs.

I love the first pair - love them for you. You have a gorgeous, sophisticated hairstyle, lovely, delicate features and these glasses are chic and make a simple yet strong statement without overwhelming you. I'm afraid I find the second pair a bit too heavy for you and a touch harsh against your skintone.

Okay - I'm certainly no expert - but I'm not loving the first pair. For me, there's something about the shape seems to be just a bit off with the shape of your face, like they're just a tiny bit too small. Also, for me, the color is a bit mild.

I like the second pair. They seem modern and chic, and suit your face. I feel they make more of a statement - but you have to love them! Do you?

I agree w/ Biscuitsmom - nos. 1 and 2 are my faves. I kept going back to 1, though - I think perhaps because they're visually lighter and let your face show through - so to speak. But then, I look at the second ones, and I think the frames are striking and very chic.

Thinking it through "aloud" ... I'm leaning towards the second pair - for the very reasons stated.

ETA: I thought Biscuitsmom was saying she liked the first two *pairs* but of course she meant the ones in the first two *pics*. So I amend my comments to say: I like the first two "frames" you're wearing - and the second more than the first. :-)

Both are perfectly lovely, though!

I really like the one in #1 and #2....I think the shape is very flattering to your face and draws attention to your pretty eyes! That color may be a little difficult, but if you wear clothing that doesnt conflict with them I think they'd be a great choice.

Part 2 of the saga described here.

How some ladies here come back from the stores with half a dozen frames to choose from is beyond me... lucky you :)

My search for the frames continues. After going back to the store where I found the frames I really liked, it turned out there was only one color that really appealed to me. But, somehow I was still undecided as MH still wasn't keen. Then the saleslady offered me to take the frames home with me and try them for the weekend to see if I like them.

It's the end of the weekend and I still like them, but I am not as sure they are the right ones as I initially have been. MH had spoken what it is he's not keen on and now I see his point. My sister even had made similar remark. These two people know me best. Or at least should...

Today we drove again to the big city with the big store and I had continued my big search. I came back home with one frame only (photos of it) that I liked. O-n-e. That's what I call a score. Not.

I think the best I can do at the moment is ask for your help. Without saying which one is which, please tell me your thoughts. The frames are very different in style and character, which perfectly illustrates the enormity of my task. I thought I was focused and knew what I wanted, but I feel like I'm running in circles. Both would work for my lifestyle and with my wardrobe, I but have my own perception of each as well as dilemmas how they portray me.

I don't have to buy either of them, so there's no pressure. I have waited quite a while and can wait a bot longer if I don't go for either of these. But, I am really interested in hearing your thoughts.

p.s.
I'm trying to smile, I really am, but I'm tired of all this...
