Or hem tape, that might work too.

And avoid wearing knit pants with those boots. I had a scaly purse that pilled a merino dress I wore it with

Wow. Those are beautiful boots. No wonder you wanted them!

But what a peculiar problem! Who could have anticipated that? (I love your visual aid, by the way -- it's perfect!)

I hope one of these solutions will work. Otherwise, maybe these boots were made for denim!

Thanks for the tips Ceit and Glory; I am heading out to the shops now and will check out these items - probably the interfacing as a first try. Glory, I have been meaning to get some moleskin for a while anyway to have on hand for inside shoes etc, so that's a very timely reminder.

I would try what Ceit said - the iron on interfacing.
the other option but it only comes in taupe is to use moleskin. You can buy it from the drugstore in the foot area, either by the roll or smaller ones the size of bandaids. I think it would hold up rather well but not sure how it would wash.

Weird -- I wouldn't have thought it would be that abrasive. What kind of pants are you wearing with them?

Could you iron a little bit of interfacing on the inside to protect the hem?

I had no idea this would happen. Today is the first wearing of my gorgeous cut leather (faux lizard skin) ankle boots (which I just got at half price, yessss!) and which have a texture that feels as interesting as it looks. The matte leather has been scored in a diamond pattern with a razor, and each tiny "scale" has been undercut at the lower point, causing the end to curl back. The result is lovely to touch. Stroking these boots feels like stroking a towel, just as if they had a "pile"... anyways, while I was walking around in them today and wearing my wide leg pants, I noticed my pants hem kept catching on the back of the boots. After a few repeats of this, I discovered that the tiny "scales" were the cause; their points were catching on the stitching along the inside of the pants hem, Worse, the thread was seriously ripped and unravelling.
I did a quick emergency repair by placing sticky tape over the inside hem stitching, to create a smooth non-catchable surface. This worked, but I think the sticky tape is going to fall off pretty soon and become a problem in itself.
Is there a more permanent solution to stopping the hem threads catching on the boots? do any of you have any ideas?
