I second Kari's point about REI's return policy; it's extremely generous, as long as you can prove that you bought it there (ie, receipt or your membership's purchase history).

What are you looking to do with this skirt? Are you trying to dress it up a bit? Make it more fun? Etc.

I love the suggestions given so far. If you're ok with keeping the look casual, another option might be adding a breezy scarf (you could tie your hair back if it's too warm to wear around your neck) or floppy hat. A colorful bracelet could be fun too

I have a similar skirt from GAP that I sometimes wear with a cotton button-down shirt, tucked in, and a sort-of-wide belt. The button-down shirt makes the outfit feel a *little* less casual. Then some medium-high wedges and maybe a blazer to dress it up a bit more.
You can't beat the skirt for comfort!

Another vote to try tucking and belting even knit tops and to look for a knit blazer. The fabric is always going to make the outfit look quite casual, however.

I like Lynne's ideas. With knit skirts, I either tuck in woven tops (or very nice knit tops), sometimes belting the skirt, or I wear a more cropped woven or knit top over it. Sometimes I add a structured summer jacket, per Lynne's suggestion.

FYI - REI has *extremely* generous return policies based on my experience in the past, so it's very likely that they might accept it as a return even if you have already removed the tag and worn the item. One of my friends had hiking boots purchased at REI that started falling apart a few years after the original purchase, and they took them back and gave her a new pair for free, no questions asked. So if you really don't feel comfortable in the skirt, don't count out returning the item as an option.

Annette, this is a great length on you. Sometimes it works to add something more structured to something flowy - eg a woven blouse with the soft skirt, or a short sleeved summer jacket over the tank. Worth a try?

Belting seems like a good idea. What about a faux-wrap T-shirt, or a t-shirt with a "softening element, e.g. an interesting neckline or Empire-waist (still close fitting, though). It's a lovely skirt, don't give it up... AND if all else fails ASK ANGIE! Good luck!

I have two similar casual knit skirts I can't figure out what to do with either. I like the knit tops with it. Do you have any casual blouses you could try belted with it?

I bought this at REI for vacation. It is reversible and will pack well. It seemed like a good idea but I can't seem to make it look good. I wore it out with the black top, so returning isn't an option. It is a super soft tshirt like fabric. Blouses look too dressy with it. Any ideas?
Ps, although I am new to the site, I already have been inspired by all of you. I blame you for the outrageous spending on my annual shopping weekend with my bff!
