Sal oh thank you! I will definitely be hiding or removing the bottom welt ha!

Helena I love this idea so much! I admit cream/off white pants scare me as a mom. (hahaha!) but it would be really dramatic and fresh for summer. So this is a great idea! I’ll keep this in mind

Lovely ... I wonder if it would look at feel more at home styled for warmer weather too? It would be an unusual and gorgeous palette for summer with white or off-white flowy pants, for example ... just another thought

Bonnie, I will try to get a full length photo soon! I was having issues getting myself in frame that day. Now that you say that... the times I have had a banded blouse work, it has been just below my natural waist. So that is an excellent point!!

Suntiger, you know... I am guilty of this as well. When I find a print I really love, I usually can't let it go. Or if I do, it's with regret and sadness. Sounds ike we are great print kindred spirits!

Yes to removing the hem- it is a great print on you!
That said...I am personally guilty of buying/keeping things just because of the print- when other things about the garment are not right. You have the advantage of being able to sew though!

My favorite it #3. The colors in this blouse are so flattering on you. Banded tops work for me if the band length is perfect, just below my natural waist. I'd like to see the blouse in a full length photo. I think pant length and shoes can balance the top and make an outfit work.

cat2, thank you! I think removing the hem is seeming the best option, unless I just tuck it always. Which given its straight shape, unless I take in the side seam at the waist, I'll likely be tucking it anyway.

L'Abelle, thank you! I've actually been jonesing to knit some vests SO this is a great idea! cjh made a great comment about tapered cylinder shapes wearing banded hems well. But agree: I rarely see banded hems flatter many, though I'm intrigued by the style and have worn it before.

Sloper, definitely will be tucking and belting. Might even unpick/cut off the banded part.

Jaime, thank you! I need to get some wide leg pants, as I have none. Will have to try that soon!

Angie, thank you! the print and colors made me gasp! I really love them. So now just to tame the banded hem ha!

Column, thank you so dearly! The colors are very good, and inspire me in all sorts of ways.

Janet, thank you! It seems the overall vote is to hide or cut off the hem. Which I shall be doing.

indigoprint, thank you! That is a lovely point about wearing it belted. Maybe because it follows the curve of my hips? I definitely love the blouse and will find a way to work.

Bijou, thank you dearly! I really love this blouse; it's so pretty! I will find a way to make it work, especially after all this great feedback

cjh, thank you! I will likely be removing the banding or re-hemming it. It's helpful to know about your MIL! It's interesting because I have seen banded hems suggested for some body types (can't remember which, thinking apple shapes) but have yet to see it flatter anyone, But that makes sense with the tapering cylinder body shape; perhaps a less common torso shape? When I am at a lower weight, I will wear them and they seem to be okay?? But it just depends on the cut and type of blouse entirely. Definitely not a high ticket item for me.

Star, the band I think will be going very soon ha! Everyone's vote: Dump the band!

Ginger, the band I think will go bye-bye. Not sure about adding side vents yet? My sewing skills are very novice, though I'm eager to do more. But I can definitely cut that sucker off ha! I am intrigued about banded hems and which body types they flatter. It seems to be a love/hate hemline. I agree with you that it adds some kind of softness below the bustline. For most shapes, it probably adds a lot of bulk to do so?

Phoebe, I will likely unpick or cut off the hem! I may get by with tucking it in. This blouse needs a lot of waist shaping!

Carol, I ordered a pencil skirt to try, just because of your comment haha! I have been wanting to try one again for some time. So I found a decent one, hopefully. We will see. I'll post when it arrives and ask for some feedback. I really wanted to try some very high waisted, wider leg jeans and even found a pair! But they weren't curvy cut. Also,my inner thighs rub and I blow-out inner thighs on jeans. SO... I chickened out and deleted them from the cart. Might try the trousers in another fabric. Woven polyester seems to wear much better and longer for inner-thigh rub. (I know it's essentially plastic, but sometimes I have to give in to reality and pragmatism.)

I agree, remove the band and put in a plain hem. Possibly add side slits if you need the room (sometimes I do). I like this style tucked in or belted, since by definition it's straight and blousy and doesn't have waist definition.

Interesting tidbit from cjh about who this cut works for. Maybe it adds softness/curve below the bust if you don't already have a lot? Just thinking.

What a pretty blouse. The colors and pattern are great on you. I agree the shape with the banded hem isn’t ideal and if you can remove the band and it’s still long enough, that would be a good solution.

As to the body shape which this cut is best for, my MIL always loves this style, and she is short and very busty, not really an apple nor inverted triangle, more of a gently tapered cylinder. I think the band hem works by leaving room in the bust but drawing the fabric in so it doesn’t look like a big smock or “tent” dropping straight from the bust.

If you cut the band off is the length still good?
How firmly is the elastic stitched in the band could it be removed?
What about making side slits....would the band cooperate with that?

What a gorgeous print and colours on you! The peasant style suits you fine, I think it's the banded hem that's causing the problem.

If it were me, I would wear it with a black (or dark brown?) vest overtop, hip length or longer. Or boss around the banded hem by semitucking or otherwise pretending it wasn't there. Or maybe even unpicking it to make a straight hem.

I find it interesting that this cut, which doesn't work on my straight/apple shape, also doesn't work on your curvy/hourglass shape. I wonder who it is meant to flatter?

I purchased this blouse off eBay. The colors spoke to me. It’s a gorgeous mix of chocolate, eggplant, orange, crimson, black, and beige. There is a copper metallic thread shot through the entire length of it.

However, the style isn’t as good on me as I thought it would be. I’m starting to wonder if peasant/boho styles even suit me? And I don’t think banded hems are my best.

I love the print and colors for me IMMENSELY!!! Like scream from the rooftop “oh my gooooooosh!” The fit? it just doesn’t feel good on me.

I tried it with my navy sweatpants slacks. I feel meh about it. Skinny jeans might be better.

I think it’s best tucked? Belted seems weird with the banded hem. Loose is okay but seems too long or frumpy perhaps?

Would a pencil skirt save it??

My other thought is save it for the fabric and recut another blouse out of it down the road. It’s just too beautiful a fabric to waste.

Thoughts and ideas, please!
