Not to completely take this thread in another direction, but I've been reading the "warm/cool/graying" comments with interest. My coloring has also shifted since I've begun to gray. I've found myself gravitating away from what was once "winter" seasonal description toward the "soft" coloring classifications. Shevia, Roxanna, Krisnidoux, and Jenni, you might find these resources illuminating...:)
https://yourcolorstyle.com

Yes thanks Shevia! I have had a similar issue as I have gone grey. I thought I was a "Spring" in the old 4-season system since my 20s. But now I'm not sure. I still seem to look good in those brights but have other colours as well now I think...

Roxanna I am so excited that you also see this issue. I have been thinking about how nature mixes sun and storm clouds so why shouldn't we? Ok a better comparison might be sun and blue skies, but I see myself more as a stormy sky...to be continued.

I have SO missed this community. You all are such warm and supportive friends - it's great to have you all back xo

What I learned from this blazer is the importance of an outfit creation session - this was one of Angie's lessons that I had somehow always disregarded because I thought i had no difficulty coming up with outfits. But I am finding that in my large wardrobe, some items like this do became orphans and languish in the back, as Beth Ann pointed out. . And while I am usually good at putting different colours together, I am not so good at imagining proportions and fabrics together and so an outfit creation session is crucial. This jacket, for example, looks better mostly with blousier, drapier tops because of the cutaway front.

Smittie - I know! I can't believe I haven't worn it either. Now with all this encouragement and all the different options I'm sure I'll be wearing it once a week at least ;)

Jenni NZ - so nice to meet you! Always nice to meet a fellow closet hound I've been following you too and it will be so nice to read your posts now that I know that you are on Team Wear along with me!

Cee, Madeline, Jane, Cat: Thank you! These are some great ideas that I can't believe I didn't see before. I think I will try a print next.

Shevia: OMG, you have just hit on my EXACT issue right now! My hair used to be brown with caramel highlights - so I was clearly a warm and my colours reflected that. But as you pointed out, with warm skin and cool hair, I have no idea what colours work on me anymore! And I have no idea if the salt-and-pepper makes me high-contrast or low-contrast. So glad we can navigate this together. I think we need another post on this...

Runcarla: I had not thought of either of those before! I'll see what I can dig up from my closet...

White, lighter brighter blues (turquoise), green, orange, prints with these colors. Roxanna looking at this and thinking about my recent post about brown, I realize that, like me, you have warmish skin and cool hair. Do you agree with that assessment? I am developing a new season for people like us - I am thinking of calling it stormy sky !

love the blazer! I vote for teal, navy and burgundy as options, or a print with a light background! I think a turtleneck or more a scoop or v might suit the jacket better than a traditional jewel neck. Perhaps a V neck or open blouse would balance the cutaway line in the front?

Sometimes an item will languish because we know it will take effort to integrate into the rest of our wardrobe. This item is definitely worth the work!

A beautiful blazer, and you wear that style and that cool brown very well! In fact, it seems to emphasize both your eyes and your gorgeous hair.

The blazer looks great styled with the navy items. I think it would look good with other cool colours, too--like white, off-white, silver, charcoal, deep pink, blue-reds (clear or wine) and teal. There are lots of possibilities.

An unworn closet item is always a mystery with a reason. I find it fun to ponder on why I'm not using this or that thing I thought would be a workhorse when I initially got it. Two outcomes are possible from such cogitation. First, the most desirable issue: you find the culprit laid in a needed tweak in surrounding items, fix that, and voilà, finally use the item like you were supposed to. The alternative is that you find out why you are not wearing it, dwell a bit, and donate.

Thanks for sharing this post. Your Comrags jacket is a gem, and you wear it so well too. But you say you haven't reached for it since you got it five years ago. Yet, you have kept it in your closet all this time with hopes. In your comment, you hint towards color. Its a unique, different hue that could have been a neutral, and ends up looking like an animal of its own. It sure is a lovely color. I own items in this hue, which I also found effectively harder than expected to match. It goes well with white, salmon peach, nude, and other similar dusty hues. I find it goes well with black too.

But I suspect the source lays elsewhere. Could it, I mean, is it possible a tiny bit, that it would have something to do with the sleeves? Or could it be that it is too warm for inside / not warm enough for outside? Does it fight with your winter outerwear: bulking up under your favorite coat for example? Sometimes reasons for orphans are mechanical or climate related.

Hi Roxanna. I've been following your attempts to wear your wardrobe rather than buying more with great interest. I joined the forum in January during your break from it so hadn't seen you before. I've been trying to wear mine and buy less all year also as I had too much stuff and was overflowing my house!
This blazer is gorgeous on you. I love it with the sparkly top. I agree with Lisap, Suz and Karen13 that a print top would be awesome. My most worn jacket is a plain black as I wear mostly print on top which it calms down and sets off nicely. I love your hair

I think any pink would work. I also love the leopard shoes with it.

These are all such great ideas and you have my mind whirling with possiblities! Thank you ladies!

FT: Tonal matching is exactly my thing; but the other taupe items I have are blazers or accessories as it's not a good colour near my face.

Love the idea of cranberry, mulberry and olive - for some reason I was blanking on those! I will give it a go. I have a cranberry silk blouse that might work well. I haven't found the olive that's right for me near my face but I will keep looking.

Suz, Lisap - I think of Comrags as one of Canada's best kept secrets I love their urban look. Teal is an interesting one, Lisa - I wouldn't have thought of that!

Several of you suggested white or cream and a print blouse - I have a white and navy print blouse this might work with, so I'll try that next!

Jane - probably half my wardrobe is blush! I thought about it but haven't tried it yet - I will give it a whirl.

Karen13, jaileen - I would not have thought of rust or aqua! I have an aqua top I've never worn, in fact, so I'll try it on with that.

Thanks ladies for helping me un-orphan this jacket! Thinking of it as a dark taupe really helps.

How about blush pink? These two are my latest additions, and I do so like the colour, although didn't think I would. The jacket has gorgeous detailing. I like it with the shoes too.

I love Comrags and have a few pieces from them. Bought a summer dress there this year in fact.

This is a lovely jacket in a beautiful dark taupe. I'd wear it with a printed blouse underneath, one with a light background, and might pair it with cranberry, burgundy, denim, cream, white, navy.

I’d go with white. Orange (blazer works well with the leopard here).

What a gorgeous jacket - Comrags is such an iconic brand, and I’m envying you this jacket ! I like the navy, and teal , wine or cream would all work. A print silk blouse would be great under it , worn with jeans and heels. I can’t get over how long your hair is !!!

Are the taupe things you often pair with a lighter shade of basically the same thing? I think that kind of tonal matching looks pretty and sophisticated. You could also wear it with a cranberry or mulberry top and olive pants.
