I like to wear my oversized/boxy denim shirt with slim ankle pants, long shorts, or baggy short shorts along with flats for simple warm-but-not-hot-weather looks. I've got a smaller one that gets used for layering and under jackets, the big one gets worn on its own. Eg. in the last outfit I have on in this post.

I know exactly what you mean-the shirt is too wide to wear under a sweater. I have a squareish, boxy denim shirt and tried it under a sweatshirt and it did not work. For me the only type shirts that work under sweaters or sweatshirts and such are the more fitted ones. the shirts that are tapered on the sides and fit close to the body will not bunch up. Otherwise they have to be of a more thin fabric. It sounds like you have a cute denim shirt and I would keep it only if you want to wear it on its own or as a shirt over a t or something, but not as an under something shirt.

I think I know exactly the problems you are describing Nidhi. The other day I was about to buy a denim shirt and I had the same issues. The shirt was my size (shoulders and arms fit perfectly) but It was a bit too loose in the waist and hip area.

I think you should return it because you can't wear it the way you intended!

I vote return!

Are you sure it looks too "flowy", Nidhi, or do you think your eye might still need to adjust to the new silhouette? Perhaps you can post a picture?
I really do love the sound of all three looks you tried.

You could also try wearing it untucked over black straight-legged jeans, slim fitting trousers or ponte knit pants. Add a blazer or jacket for a fun dressier look or to add warmth.
I also love it worn in the column of denim formula Angie wrote ago a while back:
http://youlookfab.com/2012/01/.....g-accents/

I saw the chicest woman wearing a light blue denim shirt, dark denim pants, and granny boots - tan two-tone. I don't even like denim, but it made me want to run out and get some.

I bought an oversize denim shirt from Kohl's overthe weekend in a light wash. It has 3/4 sleeves that can be tabbed as well. I tried to copy this look rom Audrey http://www.puttingmetogether.c.....marty.html with a similar looking stripey sweater but the shirt bunched up underneath and the edges (that are visible) kind of flared out like a frock :(
Tried it untucked over skinnies and a belt around the waist but it looked all bunched up again :(
I next tried it on sans the belt with my new Uniqlo cord leggings in brown (http://www.uniqlo.com/us/store.....623-16-002) and it didnt look too bad - only thing being that the DH took a double take seeing me because at first glance it looked like I wasn't wearing any pants!!
Tucked into a polka dotted navy skirt from A&F (http://compare.ebay.com/like/3.....8;var=sbar) but it looks like oversized over flowy do not a good marriage make.
Any suggestions before I change my mind and return it? :(((
