Ginger, I have this lace and cotton shirt which pairs well with dressy skirts. I could see you in a romantic top like this.

I am imagining a fitted top, in a soft, glowing neutral, to lean into the seashell pink-ness, with lots of pearl jewelry and/or cameos if you have them (my favorite cameo is plastic, that I found at Michael’s, a few years ago, so there are budget options out there).

I also love the floral of that anthopologie cami top, although I’m with you on not liking the style of the top itself.

You might also reference older Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and I *think* Erdem runway seasons, because I feel they’ve done marvelous stylings with this style of full skirt, from the early 2000s on.

I’m thinking of a bolero type top over something that is body con and completely tucked. Here are a few examples from Macy’s.

Here are two examples of full pink skirts with simple white tops and dressy shoes. I prefer the first one because the top has some texture and interest to it, as opposed to the second one which is just a plain white fitted tee.

Incidentally these stylings are from a sewing pattern company, By Hand London, although this particular pattern isn’t quite the design you were looking for.

I'm picturing it with a cream fitted or welted pointelle knit sweater, maybe polo neck like Angie's, maybe 3/4 sleeves, maybe some embroidery.

A bolero or shrug if you need a topper

For footwear I see t straps, or maybe slingbacks like the photo, in rose or bone, maybe metallic or. Warm caramel?

Bronze could work with that pink, a metallic shoe and (I think) a matte top like velvet or a fine wool in a similar shade. Neutral and not too high a contrast.

I also avoid the darker top than bottom formula for the exact same reason, & it makes a big difference. Yesterday I wore khaki pants with a mid-tone teal sweater & looked distinctly unbalanced.
I love that skirt & that color. I’d look for a lighter colored fitted top (possibly sweater) in white, cream or light gray. Another light color with a print including that pink would be good too. I don’t think I’d select shoe color until I had 5 tops to go with the skirt, but I’m particular that way.

To answer your question from a silhouette POV - you choose your colours - I'm styling my own big red skirt with a very short navy polo sweater, and gold boots for Xmas Eve. The welt goes over the skirt and lengthens the torso a bit. Finds below. Here is my skirt unstyled:

What a great skirt! I have a pink tulle skirt that is somewhat similar and I like to go a little more casual on top with a graphic tee or sweatshirt. And a short denim or leather jacket. I googled "how to style a pink skirt" and found some ideas -- here are a few.

Gorgeous skirt! I see this as a variation on a look that is solidly within your wheelhouse, so I think it could work really well for you.

My first thought was teal. Olive would work too (following on the forum's love affair with those two shades paired with pink from earlier this fall.)

I also like the suggestions of metallic, tonal (whether pink or darker burgundy shades), toffee, and gray (very apres-ballet, that combo).

I think if you are really highlighting that waistband, the top would need to be tuck-able. So something made of a fairly thin fabric. I'm thinking fine-gauge merino or cashmere, a stretch velvet camisole, or maybe even a silk button-up blouse?

I can see this on you. I second the metallic shoes and like the ones Jenni linked.

I could see coffee or mid brown being lovely with this. Or cream or metallic - silver or gold. The right yellow could work too - maybe - I know you like and wear mid tones well.

I would avoid black, navy or pastel blue for different reasons. I think all pastel could read too ballerina like. I think a simple fitted style would work well - almost like a tee shirt? You could even have small shoulder pads in for balance.

Hmmm, lovely skirt but not the easiest color to work with. I would try with browns - dark might have a receding effect, too but toffee would look nice. Cropped, fitted jacket with open neckline or bodycon lurex top with 3/5 sleeves.
If you find fabric on a cooler side, without peachy tones - would work nicely with darker pink, magenta and purple.

Gorgeous skirt! I like metallics for footwear and any neutral color for the top (white, ivory, tan, navy, grey). If you want some color I think shades of blues and greens would be lovely paired with the peachy color.

That would be a fun sewing project and the colour would be gorgeous with your colouring, Ginger!

I like Jenni's idea of gold footwear/ top. Cream would also work. It's true that you could end up looking like a ballerina, but even so, a ballet neckline or sweatheart neckline or boat neck or envelope neck top could be really pretty with this -- it could be as simple as a nicer tee, but blinged up somehow. Or you could sew a top in that shape in silk. A silk shirt could also work (if tucked).

Re colours...depending on the shade of salmony-pink, for contrast you could try navy instead of black (or a pattern that includes both colours), or you could go for something interestingly tonal, like burgundy of some sort. Greens could work, maybe? Or even browns....

It does very much look like your style. I’m puzzled though as to why you say you have a scanty dressy wardrobe? I feel like heaps of your looks that I’ve seen are dressy?
I would like to suggest a gold top that finishes at the waist, and gold shoes. Maybe similar to the Find below, but gold? (Unless you prefer silver, but I think of you as a warmer seasonal colouring)

I stumbled across this Mac Duggal skirt in black, and when googling for more sources I found the version in peachy-pink "Hibiscus." It's far out of my price range as well as my size (sold out), but it's something I could make a version of. I make and wear a lot of very full skirts. This is so full and flouncy and it doesn't even have a petticoat layer!

This one looks like a greater than full circle skirt with pleated gores; I can find a pattern for that. And the fabric isn't impossible. (I might be able to find it in silk faille instead of polyester.)

But before I spend time searching for pattern and fabric, how should I style it?? I'm seeking inspiration as well as specific suggestions/recommendations.

The high, fitted waistline is critical to this style. It must be visible, so items tucked or cropped (they will not be cropped on me).

I am tall and high-waisted (high rise), also with a short waist (shoulder to waist). Basically, all my height is from the waist down. I can wear petite tops.

There's not much space between my bust and waistline. Blousy tops aren't the best since they just look poochy.

The first model picture is shown with a black top. I almost never wear black. Plus it's stark with this shade of pink.

A black top would make my short/small top half recede. It recedes anyway, I don't need help with that.

The pink skirt is obviously the star of the show. I would like the top to integrate with it. The third picture is from Anthropologie. The silky camisole/nightgown top isn't my favorite look but the color/print coordinates well.

And ideally not too twee or childish. It's hard with pink and pastels, I know.

While we're at it, shoes to go with these looks! I'm thin on dress-up shoes, apart from vintage-styled metallics.

I have a scanty dressy wardrobe. A skirt like this I can potentially dress up for either cold or warm weather events... but I need help!
