Dress for hot weather and bring some light toppers for evenings or in A/C. I would guess you will not want pants or jeans until after dark. I'm south a couple hours, but it has been warm enough even by the lake up there. True summer weather.

Even inside in May (Nordstrom Rack downtown, and at an evening wedding in an elegant hall), I found I could do without an extra layer, but I tend to run warm.

We tried to escape the heat and took a few days to Wisconsin, but never touched jeans, socks or jackets, and ran through all our clothes - had to buy more (DARN!)

I always find dressing in this type of heat a challenge not because of the heat - but because of the freezing a/c. You can't win!

I'd layer up, Jenava.

Thanks, ladies, and DJ it's not TMI...as a curvy girl I know one has to really be aware of these things to be comfortable in the heat!

Chicago has been getting our weather lately, although a few degrees cooler. While we cooled down a bit for 2 days, the long ranger has nothing but 100+F highs and a possible 110F for Sunday.
Breezy loose dresses and skirts, sleeveless and wide necklines, shorts. If you feel the heat, don't even bother with long pants unless they are wide and lightweight. You may want a cardi or light jacket for air conditioning or if it gets cool at night.

I'm a couple of hours away from Chicago, and while it had been unbearably hot and muggy, it's cooled down quite a bit in the last few days. We've been having rain every night for the last week and it was down to 79 this evening -- felt so chilly!

In the muggy heat I personally cannot tolerate anything tight-fitting or heavy. Skirts, loose shorts, and woven tops (silk or cotton) have been my uniform. The only problem with wearing skirts in the heat for me is the thigh chafing (sorry if it's TMI); but it may not be an issue for you.

Next weekend I will be visiting some dear friends in Chicago. We probably will just be hanging out, maybe going for some tea one day, so something that can be dressed up would be good.

As far as weather, what kinds of clothes would you midwest YLFers recommend? Coming from Seattle it's hard to imagine what the muggy heat will feel like! Are my denim clams too heavy? Should I stick with dresses?

I'll have to wear my Birkkies for walking, as I have very fussy feet. In fact, I will probably go get a new pair this weekend and work on breaking them in before the trip, because my current pair are starting to breakdown and need to be re-corked.
