Very late but a few comments here:

- great idea not to bring the jewellery you wear everyday. I lost my everyday silver ring that I bought in Egypt on a diving trip a few years back, and I still miss it to this day!!!

- I took a vest with me to US/canada when I was on a tight packing budget and didn't regret it. Made a plain tshirt and jeans or tshirt and skit outfit just that bit different.

- I actually bought my wristlet whilst on holidays and have found it invaluable ever since so I totally second that opinion!!!!

Have a great time!!!!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have added a sweater to my list and I plan to wear it on the plane with a light layer underneath it and skinnies.

The waistcoat goes with the two fitted tshirts that I'm bringing with me. The fitted tees can be used as a layering item or for general lounging around the chalet. The cardigans can also be worn over the tees and the dresses.

In terms of colour coordination, I own a pretty colour coordinated wardrobe so I shouldn't have too many issues with that.

I'm planning on bringing along a small handbag for nights out and some costume jewellery. I initially planned on bringing my silver necklace & silver and amber ring that I always wear but I don't want to risk losing them.

My overall packing list looks like this now:

skinnies (worn on plane)
grey leggings
2 shorter dresses
2 tshirts (one to be worn on plane)
1 knee length dress
3 cardigans
1 waistcoat
1 sweater (to be worn on plane)
1 pair ballet shoes (one to be worn on plane)
1 pair sandals
bikini (just remembered that there is a swimming lake outside the town)
jewellery
handbag
pjs, undies & cycling gear
lots and lots of factor 50 suncream!

Thank you for all your help!

Ditto on the small bag/wristlet.

You should also add a few pieces of costume jewelry to add interest/finish off your outfits. Nothing fancy, but something like earrings, a necklace and/or a bracelet wouldn't take up any space. How about a summery scarf?

Have fun!

sounds like you have it mostly sorted out! my only suggestion would be to coordinate the colors so you can mix and match easily. often times, i have outfits "planned", but then decide i don't like a particular shirt or cardigan with an outfit. it makes it a lot easier to switch when everything "goes" together. have fun on your trip!

What are you going to wear under the cardigans? The tee-shirts? If not, you should add a couple of camis to the list.

I think that this list looks good, although personally I would drop the waistcoat--seems like an unnecessary extra when you are trying to pack bare bones. I think the cardigans make good sense for the evenings, in case it gets chilly, and the leggings or skinnies can go under your dress if necessary.

I would stick with the two pairs of shoes you have--shoes take up so much space when packing. I second the comment about a small bag, or even a wristlet.

This is helping me. I'm going to France for vacation in a few weeks. Out lists are pretty similar. Don't forget a little bag or clutch for going out at night. I find a small easy to carry bag very useful on vacation to put keys, money and lipstick in when I don't have to tote more around.

First of all I am EXTREMELY jealous! your trip sounds amazing!!

I think your list pretty much covers everything. I'd take an extra t-shirt because it tends to get humid and sticky, so you might want an extra!

Good list, Dawn. Bring the waistcoat!

I’d take along something warmer too. You know how weather patterns can change over night in Western Europe. Have fun

Seems to me you've got it covered. Not sure about the waistcoat. That would be cute but something extra. Could you wear it with at least 2 outfits? Your vacation sounds fantastic. Have a great time!

Hi everyone!

I am going to the French Alps next Saturday for a week long holiday and I need some help packing. The holiday is a mountain biking holiday so I'll be spending most of my day in cycling gear (I have this part of packing covered) but I am unsure about what to wear at night and on days that I'm not cycling. The town we are staying in is super-casual (ski resort in the winter and hiking & biking resort in the summer) so I think my normal style will be a bit too smart-casual for the holiday. My baggage allowance is also 20kg, most which will be spent on packing my cycling gear so I also have a pretty limited amount of space for clothes. The projected temperature for these days are about 26-32C (78-90F) as well so I am working from my limited summer wardrobe as well.

What I am thinking about bringing:

skinnies
grey leggings
2 shorter dresses- ( http://adressandabike.wordpres.....lo-sailor/ and http://adressandabike.wordpres.....study-day/)
2 tshirts
1 knee length dress
3 cardigans
1 waistcoat ??
1 pair ballet shoes
1 pair sandals

Should I bring another pair of shoes, or should I strike anything off or add anything to my packing list?

Thanks!
