I buy my scarves secondhand but I look for labels that started life at Nordstrom's (Echo is my fave) and that are silk (if you don't see a tag, feel it--silk feels silky, but not slippery like synthetics do). I like long rectangular scarves--lots of options for tying and arranging--and I look for prints with patterns and colors that give me pleasure. If you don't pay more than two or three dollars for a scarf, you can pretty much buy one guilt-free.

I have also become scarf obsessed over the last year or so. My favorites are the wool/silk blend ones from BR. They have some gorgeous patterns, hold up really well & I just like the feel & drape of them. I also like the ATL, H&M & Target scarves and my Mom bought me a great scarf at Marshalls in the fall though my local Marshalls does not seem to have such a good selection.

M&O has some great scarves on sale right now (extra 30% off sale items so they come out to about $20 each). I saw this one in the store and sadly, my total shopping ban forced me to leave it behind but otherwise I would have definitely nabbed it: (they have other colors & prints in store)

April, I also love scarves. And like someone else said, I find them everywhere too. This year, I bought some beautiful Vera Bradley silk scarves, that would fit your bill. The colors and patterns are beautiful....I also have a very neutral wardrobe.

Vera Bradley no longer makes them.....but some stores have them on clearance sales and E.Bay has some too - even in packages where you can get 5 for $40. They used to be $40 a piece !

April - I am another scarf girl & my requirements on scarves are very similar to yours. I like them longer, enough volume but don't want to feel like I'm wearing a blanket. I also prefer a jersey or rayon scarf instead of a silky one. And, patterns are my favorite but I'm very selective about my pattern. My favorites I've found are believe it or not from Younkers (aka Boston Store, or whatever they call it in your area), Kohl's, and Dillard's. If I even think it might be close I buy it & bring it home for final selection because they all start running together & looking the same in the store! I have ton's of them right now & keep them on a big accordian style mug/hook rack. Very fun & they are all in one spot and right out in the open by my closet where I can see them. Shop often because the selection does change fast. I look in certain stores at scarves everytime I am there also. And, I don't spend much on them - $8-16 usually. The solids are also fun - don't discount the solids in one of your key colors!

Angie, I'm 5'2", and it has only been a challenge because I tend to be an online shopper rather than an in-store shopper.

Kari -- I *loved* the blue and green Anthro scarf you showed in your blog post. I may have to get that one.

Bella -- TJ Maxx and Marshalls are great ideas! I would have never thought of them, so thanks for pointing that out.

Kristen -- I have a Kohl's very nearby and often shop there for housewares and for my son. I will definitely breeze through the accessory section when I'm there next time.

Queenie -- my favorite scarf from this season came from AT Loft, so I will take another look.

Thanks for all this input! I have been looking at this site as well:http://www.anokhiusa.com/rectangles/index.html

April, remind me of your height?

You are after SOFT scarves that collapse but offervolume. This is the type of weight and size you're looking for:

http://youlookfab.com/store/20.....int-scarf/

Too stiff and they'll overwhelm Thumbelina you.

Why has it been a challenge, April? It's been an extremely good scarf season.

I'm another scarf girl. To add to the list so far, I've found fashion scarves at H&M, Old Navy, Macy's (on sale), Nordstrom (including the BP juniors departrment), and random boutiques that just happen to have pretty, inexpensive scarves.

Anthropologie happens to have a lot of pretty scarves for a reasonable price at the moment. (I treated myself to the first one a few weeks ago when I had a discount coupon.)

Like Kristen, I have a huge collection of scarves and rarely leave the house without one in the winter. (not cold weather scarves, fashion scarves!) Again, like Kristen, I buy scarves first and then find outfits that go with them. I like to buy my scarves in B&M stores as opposed to online because I like to feel the texture, see the weight and color of the scarf in real life. I had the most luck at Marshall and TJMaxx. They have a huge selection of numerous brands. I also picked up scarves from Target and places I have visited as well. It is a good souvenir to bring home.

Gosh, where *don't* I find scarves?! I have them in all shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. I don't like the small squares, but I have tons of the long rectangular; in cotton, jersey, silk, open weave, etc. I used to think that I would find the one perfect weight and size, but I have discovered that the ideal changes depending on the shape/fit of my top, the season, and the style of outfit (casual, work, etc) and I am better off buying a scarf that I find pretty and figuring out an outfit to wear with it later. Sometimes it can take a month or so, but once I do I can't believe it took me so long to figure ways to wear it, and I start wearing it in many different combos.

But because I buy them on whim like this, I don't spend a lot of money on them. I find a lot at Target; I breeze through the accessories every time I am at the store because their stock of scarves can change fast. Don't even bother waiting for sales, just grab and go; they're usually no more than $12 anyway.

I have also found scarves at Kohls, J Crew Outlet, Gap, Martin + Osa, even the Brookfield Zoo! Sometimes the quality doesn't last or it snags on something and is ruined, but that's a pretty small percentage of the ones I have now had for a few years and keep on ticking!

I would like to have more interesting scarves in my wardrobe but am having trouble finding them. Here are my criteria:

1. I like them to be long enough to create a nice vertical line, and not overly wide.

2. I want them to be soft enough to drape well.

3. I want to use them to accent neutral or solid outfits, so I prefer printed scarves to solids.

Any ideas where to find great scarves that meet these specifications?
