Still searching . . . I think I might be sold on charcoal.

Tried on the gap coat. It looked cute from the front, shapeless from the back, so a nay.

JCP had tons of cute coats, all on sale. However, none of them fit properly. They did have some petites in store. However, they were sized S-M-L, not real sizes, and I found I was between a petite medium and large. I felt the large would swim on me if I lost any more weight, and the medium was a tad tight. I have a big chest and I have lost none of it despite losing 20 lbs., so anything tight there has to be a nay. It's rare to say this, but I do hope I lose in the bust soon, because I have a hard time finding tops to fit and I would like to wear an actual blouse sometime!

This is still pretty dark, but it is charcoal vs. black. Would something like this work?
I consider myself large busted but I've been happy with double breasted styles on a long trench. I opt for single buttons on a short or cropped trench.

I agree with Angie. You can choose from a variety of colors that are in style now. Keep on looking until you find what you really like. Check out this online store for petite women clothing.
http://www.petitewomenclothes......twear.html
They have many stores in one place so can easily navigate from one store to the other until you find what you like. Happy shopping!

Shari, charcoal grey sounds so much better than black. Red is awesome. You could also look for a "false plain" black coat, that actually has some kind of pattern such as tweedy look or small houndstooth and so forth.

I am also considering a charcoal gray coat. I don't look great in the browns and creams, and white is not practical for a mom with kids and dog.

While I would definitely would choose red for my second coat (it's my favorite color and looks great on me), I'm trying to rebuild a wardrobe of basics so I want something neutral and that won't clash with the fab purple bag I just found scouring TJMaxx. My inner goth still craves black . . . ."I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside . . ." (NOT!)

However, if the only thing I could find that fits is red, I would probably buy it because fit is # 1.

Thanks all!

I agree with Angie about the impracticality of the black coat. I had one a few years ago, and it attracted every bit of hair or dust floating around - don't even get me started on how much lint-rolling had to be done after a visit with my aunt's bulldogs! :)

How about red, purple, or houndstooth as an alternative? Sarah P. tried on a lovely teal coat from Express that might work for you as well. http://www.express.com/catalog.....egoryId=33 It is double-breasted, but it might be worth a try.

Congrats on the weight loss!

I'd like to encourage an alternative to a black wool coat. There are countless better options out there. Black wool coats are impractical and passé.

I am looking for a black wool 3/4 length coat. I want it to be straight and not flared at the bottom. Ideally I'd love a banded waist or a tie waist but it might need to be a petite for it to hit my waist correctly. It needs to be single breasted and not have huge lapels (even though that is in style now). I would love it to be under $200 as I have a whole fall wardrobe to replace after losing weight.

My figure: hourglass with a large bust, probably size 8 or 10.

Thanks for your suggestions!
