why not just show the hair cutter the photo so there is no misunderstanding? if you need, you can describe based on the photo what you would like to alter or questions about how to adapt it for your hair type and thickness?

hmmmm. i would have said it was an updated shag cut.
aquamarine, i also have thick very straight hair and find anything with layers (even subtle and small layers) requires daily effort to make it look good.

Yup. That's a razor edged bob, angled a bit.

If your hair is thick, it probably won't look that way unless you thin it out a LOT and do a fair bit of flat ironing. I don't think it's impossible to achieve, but would take a skilled stylist.

Good points made alreadly! The thickness of your hair will require quite a bit of texturizing and razor cutting to get J.K.'s look. Also, I think color affects how a cut works. The lightness of he ends is enhanced by the light color --- darker hair will have more contrast at the end against your face, and layers are less visible.

Shape: Say the word "classic" in your description if you want to avoid anything too wild.
Length: Shoulder length, above collarbone or collarbone brushing. It looks a little longer in the back.
Subtle layers: wispy, light, delicate.

However, I can tell that in the photo the woman has very fine wispy hair, which is partly why it looks the way it does. I really think this is not a good photo to show your hair dresser, because she will interpret the model's naturally thin strands as adding more layers to your thicker hair, which is not necessarily what you want, right? I think if you show her this pic, below are the possible results you might get...

That's a bob with razoring around the front I think. If you have very thick hair, this may not work so well for you - this woman has very thin, limp hair, and the razoring tricks the eye into thinking it looks fuller.

I am in the process of growing out my layers and trying to figure out what to do with my hair. It's currently right below my chin, and I think I might like something similar to this:

http://hairstylesarea.com/hair.....53b0d6.jpg

How would you describe the ends, as well as the subtle layers around the face? I find I need to be explicit with my hairdresser, and frequently photos aren't enough.

If it helps, my hair is very thick and straight, so if you think a haircut like this wouldn't work, let me know. It's just that I am finding the deep layers tiresome coupled with frequent color touch ups to keep the grey at bay. I am striving for some simplicity!
