Yep, that describes the Vince sweater in my comment above. It looks almost identical when I pull it off my shoulders a little, but I really think it's too warm i'll keep an eye out for that silhouette though.

It's $160 at the rack, a little bit more than I want to spend for something with limited wearability. Tempting, though.

The more I look at KL's sweater, the more I think it might have a V-front and V-back. Those kind of necklines tend to fall that way. You may want to search for that.

FWIW, if you have a J Crew factory outlet anywhere nearby, try that. I have the exact same off-white/heather/oatmeal as your last photo but without the piping. I love, love, love it and have to keep myself from wearing it every single day. (My coloring is similar to yours.) While it doesn't have the dramatic effect of KL's deep, slouchy look, (LOVE THAT), it's nevertheless a versatile piece...especially for warmer climates.

Darn it, the previous J Crew boyfriend sweater I'd wanted (not this new one I linked) was still in stock recently - I thought it was long gone. But now it's final sale so I can't buy it to try out. AND I missed all their various "extra x% off sale" promotions. Grrrr. Obviously I should spend more time online shopping. (hah.)

I looked at some standard men's V necks and the V is usually a lot smaller than on women's sweaters, so it didn't really work.

Mandipa, the pale color is nice but there's contrast piping along the edges that I dislike. There's an online version with no piping that comes in either black or winter white - maybe I'll try the white!
http://www.jcrew.com/womens_ca...../A0823.jsp

Have you considered trying a men's sweater? The way KL's sweater fits with the extra-wide neck and through the arms and body look more like a men's cut than an over-sized women's to me. I could be way off base tho.

This Vince sweater is just about identical (though I don't have it pulled off my shoulders). I'm not sure I'd wear it, though. It's merino and cashmere and probably too warm for me.

There's also one at J Crew that I like but the store didn't have it in solid colors yet - here's an xs (navy) and s (off white). I think I'm more likely to wear this one but it doesn't come in charcoal.

I think the other ladies have already aimed you in the right direction. I'm just seeing this now and really love that look KL is wearing. I wouldn't mind doing something similar. I have a charcoal James Perse sweatshirt that gives a similar effect, although it's not a deep V neck so much as a wide scoop. I adore that wide deep V neckline -- it's one of the most flattering on me, so if I ever see a top like that, I'll let you know.

I think you should try a large or even XL in the Zara top. You might also look at men's V neck sweaters.
If you want to try an inexpensive tee in this shape, Target has some.

I agree that this top should go back. No matter how big you get it, it's not going to do the same thing. The V-neck really needs to be wider in proportion to the width of the top.

Greyscale - I think the sweater is very pretty and very flattering on you. However, if you want the same oversized "vibe" then I think you'd be happier with something that has more volume. KL's v neck is so oversized the effect is almost a portrait collar. Only you can decide if this sweater captures your version of her look.

Hm, I almost thought hers was heavier than the Zara one (which is very lightweight merino). The arms of hers bunch in a way that I interpreted as more weight. Maybe hers is a thick cotton tee?

But anyway, you're all totally right - the V neck is totally wrong for that look and the drape isn't working. Now that I look more carefully, the shoulders on hers are way off her real shoulders.

The Zara sweater is lovely and if I needed a regular fitted V neck I'd keep the small, but I'd rather save the money for something else.

ETA: linked the wrong thing. See below.

Eileen Fisher is probably also a good bet for this type of thing.

Agree with Anna and April. You need a finer and/or drapier fabric (i think Kate's may actually be more like a tee?) and to size up more. I would also add that you need to look for something with a wide, shallow v neck. The neckline on the Zara sweater will never be wide enough to give the look you want without also being way too low in front.

Yep, go with a finer-gauge sweater and size up enough to have it drip off your shoulders. Divine.

I don't think it is big enough, nor does it have enough drape.
