Not fashion boots at all, but they have amazing studs in the sole that prevent slipping on ice while being dragged along by a maniacal little beast.

I have the Sorel wedges from a couple of years ago AND the Sorel Conquest Carly. The wedges are very comfy and surprisingly stable, but I would not consider them winter boots the way my Kamiks are - they are too low cut for snowy days. The CCs are incredibly rugged and cool looking but not easy to get on and off, and I'm not sure a wooden heel makes sense in winter. I've also got a pair of Uggs along these lines; I wear those to watch basketball or shuffle around craft shows.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ug.....ff-boot-wo...

And a whole lot of other boots that are not technically true snow boots (the suede OTKs, the Ugg Cortonas, the AS 98s, the Bos. & Co lined ankle boots, some Docs, etc) that I've had soled for winter and wear regularly. I feel there's a need for both lace-up boots for snug fit and pull-on boots for ease. In fact, I'm considering getting these Bogs which are adorable and get rave reviews. In short, you need lots of boots!

Well, I'm not going to help here , because I would get both the higher snowier boots, PLUS the extra-cute wedges One can never have too many pair of winter boots (or coats, or gloves, or scarves or hats etc etc). I'd love those little wedges and can absolutely see you rocking those. I don't think I've ever seen them in person, but if I do, I may have to get a pair.

Not to sound like a broken record, and I'm only sharing these because I have been wearing the freakin' things everyday for the past week at least - but here is a pair I just bought (North Face, naturally ). They aren't the most beautiful things, but they are totally waterproof, and have little nubby things on the bottom that harden into ice grips in cold snow, and then soften when the boots warm up so they don't click around on indoor floors . They are so warm yet totally lightweight on the foot I haven't even had to wear socks with them - lol. Sounds weird, I know, but when you throw a jacket and boots on to do the school run in the morning, who needs socks? :)

I don't wear furry-topped boots much because most of my casual coats and jackets have a fur-trimmed something on them - and I have a bug about mixing furs (faux or not). I save my furry melton sorels for wearing with a plain puffer.

Do you - or anyone else? - know what the little clear pocket is for under the patch? What am I supposed to do with that? Do your other Pajars have that too, viva?

Thanks, salt-sea! I like the Grip Zips. And I have to say, my current Pajars have held up really well -- lightweight, warm, and totally waterproof. I am seriously considering these. I also like them in navy.

I just bought a pair of tall Pajar Grip Zips in black. They are warm, have good traction and look pretty streamlined for insulated boots. I have insulated bean boots for shoveling, and insulated hiking boots for winter hiking, but wanted something warm and waterproof for urban use and 'dressier' occasions.

I have Sorel Tofinos that are very similar to the Joan of Arctics and I have found them quite waterproof, warm and stylish. I think if you are going for true weather in your neck of the woods the Sperry's for sure. The wedges are awesome, but don't strike me as shoveling snow boots.

I like the j crew duck boot style and the Sorels! Can't help really, except to say that the removable liner on the Sorel's is very practical, and the shearling on the j crews might get full of pet hair (if you have pets).

There are also some kind-of cute Merrells that are along the same lines.
Roots also has some nice leather boots (no liner).

I need new boots, too! Mine are the Kamiks (Brooklyn or New York style -- what Una has) but I determined that I am between sizes in these, alas. My current pair give me runner's toenail (GROSS!!) and the size up is too big. So I need to find another brand.

I am following this thread!!

Sadly, most Sorel styles don't fit me well. I do like the Tivoli (I think) and it fits me but it is not truly waterproof and said to lack real warmth. I need a boot that will go the distance.

I like the Sorels for something different. And as you mentioned, maybe just a teeny step up, but not too dressy. They seem like they'd work well with your style but who am I to give advice on snow boots? wa ha ha

I may get some new snow boots this year. The ones I have are good but about 5 years old, so I am thinking about a refresh. Mine are Pajar, with a brown rubber foot and a brown and green plaid shin. Fun and casual, which is pretty much right for my lifestyle. But maybe it's time to pump things up just one notch? I don't know. I don't want anything too fancy, that's for sure.

I like the snow boots below from JCrew.

Or, I could keep on using my Pajars and just get a pair of the wedge Sorels for "going out" in the snow.

My coats are bright pink, camel, and a soon-to-be-purchased puffer of unknown color.

What do you think?
