I've also had good luck with Spencos - thickness wise they're between the dollar store cheapies and the pricier insoles, so could be a good bet. I have Summer Soles on my wishlist to try too, so I'm glad Robin likes them. Pedag makes insoles made of terrycloth - initially designed for barefoot wear in the summer, but they would help your slipping around problem.

I use felt ones for warm. They are pretty thin and I don't think they are slippery. Sheepskin ones are very fluffy and I find they take up room in the footwear until they have been worn for a while.

A lot of barefoot shoe enthusiasts wear felt or sheepskin insoles. I havent tried them yet, so don't have recommendations for you.

Hi Ginger -- yep. Though sometimes I just use them alone minus my "hard" inserts. They're pretty thin and flatten out once you start putting your body weight on 'em!

I like these for in my shoes in the summer to absorb sweat. They are very thin and have a suede-like finish. I wear them without hose but they might work for your needs.

I was going to suggest Spenco insoles but Carter beat me to it. They have a textile on top that is fairly textured, not too smooth. DH has low-volume feet and uses Spenco insoles in some of his boots to keep his feet from sliding around. Can't speak to how they would work with heels, but they do come in a wide variety of thicknesses.

Thanks everyone! To clarify, the ones I'm using now are $3 drugstore ones. The white on top is very slippery with hosiery and a heeled shoe.

cjh, if I turn them upside down I'm afraid the satin would slide down the shoe and bunch up!

Laura, KMM, and carter, thanks for the tip on brands. I will look into all of these.

Joy, I'm kind of afraid to put tape on the insoles. The tape will shift and wear away with time, and then the adhesive will be exposed and gum up and stain my hosiery. (My feet do move a lot in my shoes.)

Vix, are you saying you add lambswool insoles on top of your regular ones? I've seen some and thought they might have a nice gentle grip. The thickness might be too much, but if they have the right grip I may be able to find some skinny ones.

Lambswool. I wear mine on top of Superfeet this time of year, but agree the SF are pretty good re lack of slip.

Superfeet has an assortment of varieties and the tops are a synthetic, not too slippery material. They’re more expensive than the drugstore brands but hold up well and offer good support.

I get the thicker foam inserts that have a cloth like top, but they do take up more room in the shoe. I mostly have ordered from Amazon and the Dr Foot and Powerstep brands have been good.

I buy that type of insert from the dollar stores. They don’t last forever, but then again they only cost a dollar, or maybe two. They aren’t quite as satiny as the pricier ones. Another idea would be to turn the, upside down so your foot is in contact with the rubber side.

I need recommendations! I commonly wear regular Dr. Scholl's foam inserts in lots of my shoes, year 'round. They help take up empty space in shoes, keeping me from slipping around, and add some cushioning. They work in flats and heels alike. Totally flat, between 1/8" and 1/4".

But I have trouble in winter when I wear hose and tights with heels. The surface of these inserts is satin, and my feet slip downhill in tights! It almost negates the purpose of having an insert, since it messes up the fit and jams my toes against the shoe.

I like Pedag inserts, but most of their regular inserts seem to have a smooth leather surface. That's almost as slippery as the satin. And they're more expensive.

I just need a little grip, like suede or some kind of synthetic or non-satin fabric. Gel is a bit excessively sticky, and they also tend to have a lot more "design" to them. I'm looking for a pretty basic insert - no arch support or heel contouring and minimal thickness.
