Thanks everyone nothing in the shops that looked right on ended up getting a pair of burgungy flat pumps to wear with the dress to make it more casual and add a bit of color

Totally agree with above. And then there is the old saying that you can never be overdressed. You may look a bit nicer than some of the other guests, but that's not a bad thing! Have fun!

I agree with the other comments. I've seen brides say casual to accommodate those family members and friends who won't dress up but are secretly quite pleased when guests dress to honor their special day.

i agree with the others, wear the dress you had planned on, but bring a jacket that can tone it down if needed. i would wear low heeled casual shoes.

I would wear the lovely dress but bring something decidedly casual (like a denim or leather jacket (with or without sleeves) to tone it down should you turn out to be over-dressed, and/or I'd wear or bring just in case footwear that would say 'casual' or 'tough' or in some way modify the dressiness of the dress too. But I would definitely wear the dress you have planned. If your dress wouldn't look right with a denim or leather jacket I'll bet it would still be sufficiently toned-down just by wearing the right footwear.

At this late stage just go with what you have planned and brave it out if you are overdressed! Better to do overdressed than underdressed. OR If I remember correctly most of your fancy bits are in accessories/toppers? Just bring along another less fancy one to dress it down more.
