My shoe guy recommends something called Desalter Stuff. I have some but haven't had a chance to test it out on anything major.

Vinegar method is fabulous. Here are instructions for this method plus a few others (using Saddle Soap, Lemon Water or Baking Soda): http://bootmoodfoot.com/get-rid-salt-stains-boots/

If home remedies fail, check with some dry cleaning shops. Mine has a leather specialist who can make salt stained footwear look brand new. How? Who knows, but thankful to have them as a resource!

What Tisa says. Use vinegar. Set up cloths/thick paper towels on the backside of the gore while you clean the front to prevent any dribbles from getting on the suede.

I've used the white vinegar method Tisa describes on my black suede Aqutalia's and they turned out great. I do let the salt dry and brush as much off as possible first and then don't over saturate the suede. I let them dry and brush again. I have had to repeat the process on some bad areas but I'm happy with my results. (I use a very clean old soft toothbrush to do the job.)

To remove salt stains from suede shoes, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar in a cup of water. Dip a soft rag in the liquid, wipe the stains with it and allow your shoes to dry.
I haven't tried this personally, but my friend was very happy with the end results.

I think it makes sense that if you didn't get much success with soap, which has basic pH, you might try with acid - vinegar- instead.

Good luck!

PS: I would first try this on a small and hardly visible area of the boot, just to make sure how the material reacts to the vinegar.

Warm water to help melt the salt, and a gentle brush? I think I'd just try doing that over and over again. Salt should come out.

Good luck!!

Help please! I somehow managed to get some stubborn road salt, (could be any sort right? Calcium, sodium) on my Aquatalia navy blue knee high suede boots and the elastic gore section of the boots. It seems like the salt is fading from the suede but not the elastic gore after washing it with some gentle soap and water. Before I try anything more, I wanted to run this by our forum members to see if anyone has additional suggestions? My plan is to clean these boots as well as possible and to spray them with several layers of Meltonian..
