I love this bag and it does not clash with your outfit IMO: grey and black in your outfit are neutrals and red and fuschia are even on trend now! As you I was a cheapskate when it comes to bags. However I have splurged on a bright tomato bag ($100) and it makes me happy every time I use it! I find that it looks great with almost everything with the exception of other shades of red which may clash. Go for it!

I love the fuschia bag, way more than the DVF. I also think it looks fab with the outfit in pic #3. I would definitely buy it for the purpose for which you propose (but keep in mind I"m the person who used a bright purple croc bag for my everyday bag for several months)!

I have a satchel in that shade of pink, and I do not use it nearly enough because I'm too lazy to change out bags. I adore the color, though, and think you can wear it with more than you would think. For what it's worth, I like the first bag more than the DVF.

I LOVE this bag--so fun and punchy.

Now for the buzz kill: if, as you say, you are looking for ONE bag and feel that you must, MUST wear it every day/5 days a week for your commute, I don't think this is the bag for you. To me, this seems like a fun punch of color that would be worth adding to an established bag collection which contains at least one or two neutrals (say, black and perhaps a camel or gray).

For example, I don't think it looks great with the outfit shown in pic 3. I think it could really make neutral outfits sing but, again, I wouldn't want you to be wedded to wearing it every day with every outfit simply because you paid $80 for it. (For what it's worth, I think $80 is a very reasonable price for a bag of this size, assuming the material is leather).

So, my vote is either to refocus your search to neutral commuter-friendly bags which truly can be worn every day, regardless of outfit colors OR wrap your head around buying at least 2 bags: a true basic in a black or other neutral and then a fun bag in a bright color, such as the hot pink shown here.

I really like this bag and with your mention of richer, jewel tones, think it will go with a lot of what you wear. I just recently bought my first purple bag and it goes with 90% of my wardrobe. Along with the neutrals I tend towards richer, jewel tones, too, with red, green, blue and berry topping the list. FWIW, I also found it hard to plunk down $70 on my bag, even though that was a discounted price!

I say yay if you think you will not get bored carrying the same colored bag every day. Otherwise I'd invest in a good quality neutral tone commuting bag and buy a brightly-colored smaller over-the-shoulder bag for running errands. (as Steph pointed out, seems like you do need two bags:)

fwiw, I like the new one better than DVF

Thanks you guys! Here is a bit more info..
- This won't cause financial hardship.. i'm just a bargain hunter and typically do not pay retail price for anything. This is a bag from TJMaxx. I'd buy this bag *only* if I *will* use it everyday, clashing or not!
- The original purpose of this bag is just to use during commute, then it'd sit in a drawer at work. In general, I wouldn't care much about how I look during commute, but I still don't want to become an eye sore. :)
- I'd love to use the bag in some outfits as the featured star of the show.
- Oh, yes, I would put my smaller purse in this tote. I am still hunting for that one.
- I don't wear pastels much, I like saturated colors, and jewel tones.
- My outfits typically have one bright/color/pattern, I seldom do all neutrals head-to-toe. All my shoes are neutrals fwiw.
- And sadly, that high waisted black skirt in #1 & #6 did become one size too big. I really love it though, so not willing to give it up yet.

I like the first bag, the color is strong, but looks seasonless, it's not a pastel which I associate with spring wear (such as bag #2). Also the fit looks better on your shoulder, the secodn bag, looks very boxy and not streamline to the body. I vote keep #1, particulary if you wear a lot of neutrals, this bag could be your "pop of color" in an outfit. And everyone needs a bag that makes them happy. For myself, I use a larger tote for my work commute and keep my smaller handbag inside, the smaller bag I grab for lunchtime and weekend running around.

C9, I am crazy in love with this bag! It's beautiful! From what we've seen here, you look fantastic in darker colours, and this fuschia will be gorgeous with them. Also, if you love it 'for reasons you can't quite pinpoint' then maybe it represents a new direction in your style, in which case I say go with it, rather than choosing a neutral that you've always used in the past. With a bag like this, I would carry a smaller purse in it that I could take out for running errands, buying lunch etc, while this one stayed in a locked cupboard in your office. Would that work? Would you sit this on the floor or on a chair during you commute?

Did I mention that I am SERIOUSLY in love with this bag :D?

Here's my 'Mum' bag that fits all my bits and bobs; I don't use it consistently because the colour doesn't work with everything, but I have never for one minute regretted the colour...please excuse less that PPL..

I really like the bag - the colour is spectacular! As long as it doesn't cause you any financial hardship, I would say go for it.

I'd love to see this bag as a featured accessory against neutral coloured summery type clothing. I'm picturing crisp white jeans or dress. I can imagine it would look fabulous against purple too, or you could go for a stark colour wheel contrast and go for a green to really make the colour pop!

Here are my thoughts:
I like the new bag much better than the DVF bag. That's just my personal taste, but it sounds like that is your preference as well.

Is it that you can't afford the $80 bag, or is it that you can afford it but, as you said, you are a cheapskate? If you can't afford it, I would say you should pass. If it's simply that you haven't spent that much on a purse before, but have no problems swinging the price, then I would definitely get it.

You mention needing a smaller bag for running errands, but you also need a bag for commuting. So it sounds like you really need two bags. My guess is you commute five days a week, so a bag that you wear that often is, in my opinion, worth the extra money. Personally, I really like the color, because I like bright bags. But I think color is very personal--if you are going to feel uncomfortable with such a bright bag, or if you don't like it if your bag and outfit don't match, maybe it isn't for you.

Hmmm, it depends on what colors you usually wear. If you wear a lot of pastels or earthy colors then this bag will certainly clash. But if you wear a lot of neutrals and bold colors, I think it'll be great!

The other thing to consider for practicality is if the top closes. I can't stand having one side of my purse opens because at some point everything falls out, and sometimes it rains and I need to shield the contents of my purse.

The other thing is that I like having a bigger bag. I can stuff my cardi or scarf (or both!) in it, carry my laptop, bring a water bottle, put a small purchase in it instead of using a plastic bag, etc. But some people don't want/need to carry around a lot of stuff, and so a smaller bag is better. It completely depends on your lifestyle and your needs.

I am drawn to this handbag for reasons I can't quite pinpoint, maybe it's the thick but buttery soft leather, or the perfect craftsmanship, the simplistic design, or maybe even the pretty & rich color that I wouldn't even give a second glance pre-YLF. It's structured, but not too structured (like the other DVF bag, which feels so stiff more like a luggage), and also a great size for the purpose: towing around stuff during my commute (which may contain laptop, change of shoes, my lunch, fruits, books, etc.), so this is a good size. The brand I've never heard of Mila Paoli. So here is the quandary:
1. it's $80 (by far would be the most expensive bag/tote for me.. i'm a cheapskate. :)
2. I feel kind of torn to use such an expensive bag (with such bright colors, so a little iffy on lasting power) for commuting
3. a brand i am clueless about (although quality seems very good)
4. the color is a bit too bright for me, normally i'd have neutral or much more subdued colors for handbag choices
5. this is definitely a fun color, but I'd be use it *everyday* for my commute. Definitely won't go with all outfits but this is the lone bag that i'd have. So clash of colors would be a definitive possibility. Also year-round, can this color carry thru all 4 seasons?
6. I also need a everyday off-the-shoulder bag for running around errands, shopping, etc. This bag is probably a bit too big. Should I just save my $$ and buy a nice smaller handbag instead?

Pic 1: the bag.
Pic 2-3: Me with the bag with clashing colors.. :)
Pic 4-5: The DVF bag. I love the fabric, but feels a bit too big for me, and too structured.

so what's your verdict? Do you think this bag is appropriate and *practical* as an everyday bag? Is YLF going to give me an F grade for wearing clashing colors? Should I just stick with a neutral color for this purpose?
