I wouldn't be worried about having short hair at a young age. I have very very short hair and I'm 21. I love it and I think it actually suits my age as well as it is a playful funky style.

Generally I pay a visit to my hairdresser once a month for a haircut. I'm currently stretching that at the moment as I need to pay off my debts but I'm only stretching it to 5 or 6 weeks.

De, I also want to add not to be concerned about the age factor. I am biased; I sported short hair (not quite as short as Taylor and Angie suggest to you, but close) at age 15 and again at 22, loved it, and felt very feminine and playful.
Tassajara is also young and has very short hair, and she looks awesome.

Oh goodness De,

If you were my client I would have you in something very edgy.

Short w/a focus on framing your face and those beautiful soulful eyes. Lots of texture and definitely a choppy bang,w/ shorter layers on top. A little Winnona Ryder , years ago, when she was very short..... only edgier! You could pull it off very well...just depends on your comfort level:)

I know short hair needs to be frequently cut to maintain its shape. With my current haircut I usually start to feel terrible by the 4th week (which is probably where I'm at now), and it isn't very short.

Due to my financial circumstances (I'm merely a student!), I have always tried "stretching" it to 8 weeks. I suppose 5/6 weeks won't be that bad...Ideally, I'd have a haircut every 3 weeks as Taylor recommended!

Alright gals, I think you've definitely convinced me to go shorter. If things don't work out, I can always resort to a longer style and try curling it as rute and san suggested.

Taylor, as a stylist, do you have any short hairstyle suggestions for wavy hair?

Thanks for chiming in, Taylor. I have my hair cut every 5 weeks too (you know how short it is). I actually love maintaining it so frequently because it always feels fab once you’ve had a haircut. I guess it’s more expensive though.

De, I am excited that you might go for a shorter cut! You have wonderful facial features for a short 'do. My hair is super short, and I go every 6 weeks, sometimes a tad longer, but by then it's looking pretty shaggy.

De,

Keep in mind that hair grows about 1/2 inch per month, sometimes more. Your haircut looses it's shape in that time. Short hair,(to MAINTAIN it's style ) must be re-shaped every 3 to 5 weeks...6 max

Thanks sinead!
I like that look. It's similar to what my hair looks like right after a haircut. To maintain that sort of style I guess I'd have to do something to tame the sides, but that seems inevitable!

One thing I'd like to ask the short-haired ladies on this forum is how frequently do they get their hair cut? Less than 6 weeks between sessions?

De- I think you look similar to Ines de la Fresange and would look great in her haircut. Here's a link Tarzy posted:http://i387.photobucket.com/al.....ssange.jpg

I'm relatively new to the forum but I'm going to jump in here! I am also quite young (27) and have naturally curly hair that can be pretty hard to control (especially in the midwest humidity). Last year I got what I would call a "slightly longer pixie" cut (no clue if that's an accurate title!) AND LOVED IT. Everyone also complained to me when I said I was cutting it shorter (in the 6 months prior to that I went from 3/4 of the way down my back to above my shoulder!) but once they saw it, they loved it too. After having long hair for soooooo long, it was very liberating. Best of all, I didn't have to use hardly any product after a couple weeks of "training" it with a tiny bit of hair wax---I think it can be a very good cut for untamed curly hair because that urge to curl gives your short hair great texture and definition.

My cut was based off of these pictures: http://shgirls.blogspot.com/20.....-hair.html

De, I had a pixie cut in college and found it to be quite appropriate and easy to maintain with that hectic schedule. People winced until after they saw the cut, and warmed up to it. I'd do the cut again now (age 27) but I don't think it balances me out as well now.
And hair always grows back.

Thank you for all your comments (and compliments)!

sarbear1121, I have considered having my hair cut much shorter, but I'm reluctant (i.e. afraid) to do so because:
1. Most of the people I know either complain it is already too short and/or hate when I suggest an even shorter haircut.
2. I'm quite young so I'm not sure if it wouldn't look a bit inappropriate?
3. Would it be too difficult to maintain?

rute, I find your suggestions funny because I have been thinking about those two options lately! I would either cut my hair even shorter (especially in the back), or grow the sides out so I could wear it wavy without it looking as weird as it does now.

san, you also suggested using products to bring out the waves. The only problem with this is that I don't like the idea of using loads of chemical products in my hair every single day; I haven't used any hair products in yeaaaars. I do think it's a better alternative to using a flat-iron everyday though, so I'll definitely consider it. Do you (or Rute) have any product suggestions? I mean, both of you have curly/wavy hair, and I would love to know what you use on a daily basis to manage it.

About the center part... Yes, I know it's terrible. I actually have it parted slightly off center, but you obviously can't notice the difference, hehe. I guess I'll have to experiment with this, too.

You are very pretty and it looks to me like your face shape could handle just about any hair do you'd like. I think you are very fortunate to be so pretty and have Wavy hair. I'd like to see you get some products for curly hair to enhance the curl. When your hair is towel dried, without rubbing, apply the products and scrunch and arrange the curls with your fingers, allow to air dry. Try to avoid the center part by flopping the top hair off to the side and pulling some strands down for fringe. After it is dry you might want to mess with it with your hands or a hair pick. Go with those curls. You're beautiful.

Hi De!

First let me say I do not know much about hair.. I think you could do one of these suggestions:
- Let it grow a little and do a curly bob (your hair is wavy and you just need to use a little of foam for curly hair);
- or do a shorter cut (like Meg Ryan, just put in the google meg ryan haircut) and use a little gel,

but I will leave the final word to Angie.. cause I'm no expert..

Hello everyone.

Angie's blog post has inspired many people to reevaluate their hairstyle... I'm one of them! Both my hair and face are parts of myself that kind of annoy me and it would be very helpful if I could at least have a good hairstyle.

I used to have long hair, but I found I just couldn't manage it well. It's very full and wavy, so my thin face kind of got lost in it! I then tried a shorter style, and it would work well IF my hair wasn't so wavy and undisciplined in certain parts. So basically, it doesn't work.

Here are two pictures that show what I mean (I'm sorry, I'm not a very photogenic person):
http://s595.photobucket.com/al....._ylf/hair/
(password: youlookfab)

This first pic gives you an idea of what my face shape is like, and both show you just how messy it can look.

I just don't know what to do with my hair. I'm pretty clueless about what kind of hairstyle would work with my hair and face, because nothing seems to work. :(

I'm open to any suggestions you'd like to make, so comment away!
