Update: The Okalas came today and are going straight back. The arch is in the wrong place for my foot, I think; it feels unsupportive and uncomfortable right off the bat. Time to search out a pair of Esperance pumps...

I don't know if a patent pump would work, but I have these and don't consider them uncomfortable. I believe they are 3". They are around $100 and are pretty easily available at Macy's and Nordstrom and presumably other such places.

I would not hem the dress. The very bottom of it has a strip of color that echoes the strips above, dividing the skirt into tiers. You will want that bottom strip to balance the design out.

I actually did wear the peachy-pink pumps with a dress that had a similar colorway to yours.

Hope the Okalas work out for you! I can only speak to the Esperance but I believe the Okalas and the Esperance are very similar.

Just ordered the Okalas in my smaller size from Zappos (they are price-matching right now for the holiday season). Wow, what amazing customer service they have. Fingers crossed that they work out, as I've read contradictory information about the height of the heel (from 2.5" to 3").

UmmLila, I'm planning to wear my pale blush JC lady day coat over the dress and maybe bring a pashmina for indoors. I do live in a warm climate (northern California).

I like the peachy-pink color with the dress.

What will you wear over the dress (or do you live in a warm climate?)

C1, thanks for those two excellent suggestions! The Okalas are sold out at Nordstrom so for some reason I thought they had been discontinued, but Zappos still carries them (and they are actually on sale right now on Sam Edelman's website, for anyone else interested). I tried the Esperance in ruby print a few months back and found them moderately comfortable, so I'll try to track them down in a more neutral colorway as a backup plan. I like both pairs better than the one that I originally linked in my OP...

Chris987, thanks for the rec--if I decide to hem the dress I'll definitely look into those!

Andrea H, I confess that I'm terrible at searching Zappos. I did try narrowing down on Nordstrom's website, which has filters that make more sense to me. But Zappos only allows me to limit to 3-3.75" heel, which means that many of the shoes are too high (3" is my max comfort height), and I can't figure out how to narrow down by style to a simple dressy heel without over-filtering my options. Do you have a suggested "shoe style" filter choice?

I have no specific suggestions, but have you tried searching on Zappos? You can put in filters for shoe size, heel height, shoe style, and color and get a bunch of options that git your criteria.

The heel on these is too low for your needs unless you are willing to hem the dress. It's 2 1/4". I have them in black and they are super comfortable. They come in a nude color also. $79.

I was going to suggest the Louise et Cie pumps, I wore them with another Anthropologie maxi dress for a wedding and was quite comfortable in them. I would suggest getting them in a solid color that coordinates well with your dress. Or the similar Sam Edelman Okalas: https://www.amazon.com/Sam-Ede.....8&

I'm wearing this dress from Anthro (attached in Finds) to my company holiday party this year. It requires exactly 3" heels (plus or minus a quarter inch) to be the right length. But I don't own any appropriate neutral, dressy heels, and I have unusually sized + fussy feet.

I could possibly hem an inch off the bottom to make them work with my existing 2" dress shoes, but I'd rather first search for shoes since I'm lacking a delicate dress heel in any case. I wear a women's size 5-5.5 medium, and I have narrow heels which tend to slip out of pumps (need to be a strict size 5 and then my toes tend to get squeezed). Also, comfort is key! I expect to be standing on hard floors for the majority of the party, although not dancing much.

To summarize, I'm looking for dressy shoes that fulfill the following criteria:

1) Neutral enough to pair with a busy patterned dress
2) Has straps to hold it onto the foot
3) 3" heel (preferably no higher, but no lower than 2.75")

Leaving price point open for now, although I'm more comfortable with <$200. Please help! I attached a Find of one pair that I'm considering, but I'm not really in love with the dark snake print.
