jk079, yes, I do agree that the problem was due to the tights, since the skirt didn't creep up so bad when I had the tights off (the skirt would creep a bit when I walked but then would come right back down when I would stop). The problem is, it's very cold here for most of the year, and I need to wear this skirt with tights at least occasionally. I'm hoping that the cable-knit tights (which I was wearing) are the main source of the problem and that all tights won't do this. But since I need to wear it with tights, I am looking for a slip that will enable me to do that.

It's interesting what you said about the waist. I tried pulling the skirt up to various levels, and also the opposite (pushing it down further onto my hips), to see if it was some kind of fitting issue with the waist, but nothing I did seemed to make any difference until I took off the tights.

I have the same skirt and wore it without tights the other day without any problems. So maybe your issue was related to the tights you wore that particular day? Also possibly a factor: I bought it in regular even though I normally wear petites, so I am wearing it higher on my waist than I wear some other skits. I know this tends to reduce twisting as I walk; maybe it also affects creep?

Honestly I'd just wear a full slip instead - then you won't have to worry about the slip sliding down off your waist, or having to yank it up all the time.

I have a Commando full slip and I confess, I just hacked it with scissors to get it the right length. It's been through the wash countless times and the hacked hem has not frayed.

The full slip does have adjustable straps, but even after shortening them as short as they could go, it was still an inch or two too long... so out came the scissors because I just don't got time to send a slip to the tailors!

Thanks, Beth! I'm glad to see that the cable knit might be the problem. Gosh, a person tries to branch out from regular tights, and look what happens! :^)

I did see the Commando slip on someone's website...I chuckled because one of the reviewers said that the weighted hem sets off the metal detector in airports. Oh well, I guess the security personnel will see that you have a quality slip when they strip-search you.

I've always had skirt creep with cable knit tights but not with regular tights, so I wonder if that might be a part of it.

Commando (at Nordstrom) makes a sleek half slip that has a weighted hem. It might be worth a look!

Laura, thanks for suggesting the juniors' dept. I had thought of the girls' dept., but not juniors'. And if I expand my options in that way, I can try Kohl's. There's one not far from me.

Diana, I did an online search after following your link and found the Target women's slip in my local store (yay!). I'm worried about the waist size, because things tend to run larger than the size chart says. But Target is just up the street, so it's not like I have to go to a lot of work to check it out. I did discover the girls' slip before posting this thread. It looked like a good option, but it is not sold in stores. I really would like to try the B&M options first before heading into online territory, unless I can be quite sure of measurements.

BTW, the skirt is already lined, so I was surprised to see I was having a problem. Maybe it's like Laura says, and it's more a matter of plain old friction. Once the skirt rides up, there's enough friction that it can't come back down.

It looks like I'll have a chance to test different tights with this skirt, because I just put a run in the tights on my first wearing. There is a now a nicely developing hole on the side of my calf. ARGH!!!!

I buy my slips at target. I have this one, which is 16" but could easily be hemmed.

http://www.target.com/p/vassar.....;term=Slip

Or here is a children's version but they don't list the length.
http://www.target.com/p/girls-.....;term=Slip

In my experience all unlined skirts cling on tights/hose, regardless of the type of hose. Jersey fabrics for the skirt are the wors when it comes to clingt. A slip is the only thing that works for me.

I've definitely noticed more 'creeping' when wearing tights than when bare legged. I don't know if it's static from the fabrics rubbing together or just that the tights have more grip than skin.

What about a slip from the girls or juniors department, since you are small? I tend to find the nylon, old fashioned type slips in department stores and places like kohls. If you need to, you could buy a longer slip and hem it.

I was so excited to wear my Loft polka dot pencil skirt today. It's still a little cold, so I wore it with tights. Putting a damper on my happiness was that when I would walk, the skirt would ride up a couple of inches. I thought maybe it was something about the fit of the skirt, but when I got home I took the tights off and tried walking around again, with bare legs. As I would walk, the skirt would ride up a tad, but as soon as I stopped walking, the skirt slid back down to where it should be. So clearly, even though the skirt is lined, there is some kind of static issue.

I wanted to buy a half slip to fix the problem, but I have a smaller waist and am very short, and so I can't find anything. I am looking for a slip maybe 14" long and with a waist of about 25 inches. Does anyone have any ideas where I could find one?

One thing that just occurred to me is that my tights were cable knit. Do you think the pattern had anything to do with the static? (I'm too lazy to get up and try the skirt on with a different pair of tights, or I'd answer my own question. Feel free to tell me to go take a hike.)
