Del, please feel free to send me a private message. Sadly, even after seeing several allergist visits, I have not found a satisfactory solution. I was talking to a woman who works in medical research area and she suggested I ask my doctor about a nasal spray that is made of some sort of powder.

Sarah, good point . We used to use a home- made laundry detergent but have switched to All clear. No fabric softener ( always vinegar when necessary) and never any candles or air freshners.

The only two things that stand out to me. I started the conditioner-only routine for my hair and use Suave. I use a Method spray weeklyfor wiping the granite countertops and that always makes my throat itch. I should look for substitutes for both of these. Thanks for the reminder.

Just out of curiosity, have you ruled out airborne things like scented laundry detergent and/or fabric softener and scented candles/air fresheners and perfumes? I know a number of people with extreme snesitivites to chemicals that they breathe, particularly laundry related chemicals becuase their faces are right in it all night in the bedding... Just a thought. I am not overly sensitive, but I do have an allergy to mica, which is in a lot of cosmetics - I had severe eye swelling.

Lisa, it is bizarre! I have had skin tests done for about 48 common allergens including dust mites, all types of mold, tree pollen etc and repeatedly test negative yet I am miserable. .

Thanks for the warning about sulphates, I didn't know that. I was surprised to learn about chamomile which is present in all sorts of herbal teas/tissanes.

elpgal - I have the same issues you do. I also use Nasonex and Reactin, and even spray Dristan into my nostril.....which I know is the worst thing you can do. But at certain times of the year I get desperate. I've been told it's everything and anything from dust mites, animal hair, snow mold, fragrances from candles burning and even essential oil diffusers. I kind of gave up trying to figure it out and do what i need to do to function when it gets bad. Sulphites in wine can be a problem too, apparently.

The doctor gave me a database of safe products that don't contain that preservative. Is that what you mean possibly? I would say I'm 80% better, but still battling some issues...red, teary, itchy eyes. The derm is suggesting regular allergy testing but I've actually never known anyone who has been helped by that. Say for instance you are found to be allergic to dust. Um...good luck with that! A certain preservative is possible to avoid. Dust is not.

But...let us know whatever you find out! Hopefully you will get some help and that info may help others!

Carter, thank you. I would be fine if the allergy medicines were doing their job. In this case, they don't seem to be working. I use a combination of Nasonex and Allegra. Benadryl makes me super-dopey and I can't risk taking that and getting on the roads. I also use a saline rinse and bathe before I sleep. I will check out the supplement - it was once prescribed to me when I had a knee injury as a way of reducing inflammation. Good luck with your journey. Please post an update if you come across something that works for you. I don't consume much outright dairy or wheat but I will have to work on eliminating the other sources.

Peri, Glad you got things under control. I must be remembering wrong. This thread was about a database of lesser known allergens that the doctor gave them. I wonder if it was on a different forum.

NK: I have a similar sensitivity to the glue in BandAid. A minor mole removal turned into a month long process because of this.

Tina: I believe mine is too. The only symptom I have is nasal congestion. It makes me feel panicky and I get the 'under water, can't breathe' feeling. Dust mites may be a cause - I have ordered mattress and pillow covers and will probably replace my pillows.

I feel for you. I have had this for 2 weeks and am waiting desperately for it to go away. I think mine is sinus related. I have started using Nasonex, we will see. I do not have any rash though. Every time I think I've beat it, it comes back. Trying to get to sleep is brutal.
I will becearchingbthis thread for ideas!

My grandmother had allergic rashes around her eyes and nose and learned she was allergic to something in the particular brand of nail polish she was using. It didn't show up around her hands, but did on the more sensitive areas around her eyes and face. So it could be anything, not just a cosmetic but even a product like a counter cleaner or dusting product -- something your spouse or kids are using. The hunt for the offending product may be long and difficult. Good luck though as removing the allergen is so much better in the long-run than having to take drugs.

ETA: Also think about a food allergy. My allergy to wheat manifested not only via GI issues, but also itchy rashes on my shins and flanks, and asthma. My derm suggested it was an allergy, so I spent a lot of time looking for a contact issue. When I stopped eating wheat, all of this cleared up in a matter of weeks.

I had to wear a Holter monitor for 48 hours last week to check my heart rate....within minutes of the tech putting the sticky electrode things on me, the areas started to itch. After 48 hours, every spot (5 of them) had an oozy, itchy rash. 10 days later, I'm still battling this although the oozy spots have scabbed. When I complained, their answer was, "sorry. this happens to a lot of people." An online check said often this is related to an allergy to nickel, which often surfaces via the wearing of inexpensive costume jewelry. So vexing.

Mine was on contact dermatitis though, not the kind of allergies you are describing. I had tests and found an allergy to a preservative in a lot of my hair products was giving me insane eye rashes...and also causing a lot of hair loss.

I'm not sure what thread was about environmental allergies. I hope you find it and feel better!

Peri had a couple threads on allergies recently. Tons of info there.

Good for you for trying to find and eliminate the cause of your symptoms rather than just blindly accepting drugs. I have been on daily antihistamines for 20 years. It's a teeny little pill, available OTC, given to children and taken by millions of people. However, in my quest to eliminate chemicals from my life, I quit taking them a week ago today. I've had a week of wanting to scratch my skin off. I'm covered in bruises because I've scratched so much. This is not an allergic reaction to anything. It's withdrawals from Zyrtec. Seriously. Google it. On the plus side...my blood pressure is normal after 20 years. Never again will I take them.

A couple more natural things that may help while you figure out the cause:
