I agree with TS the DKNY is cleaner & more interesting imo.

In my experience the North Face is pretty bomb-proof and all things being equal, could likely last far, far longer than a fashion brand. That doesn't matter though if a design detail bugs you and you don't want to actually wear it for 15 years or so. In that case, I'd go with the cut you like best.

I like the DKNY on you. The lines are very flattering on you. The NF is nice but the belt would bug me when the jacket is unzipped.

I am now sorted. I agree the belt is an extra step and I admit I'm even slightly bothered by the very prominent logo on the back shoulder. The quality is nice on both, but for me the ease and style of the DKNY will be far more functional. Thank you for your inputs to help me decide.
DonnaF the DKNY has similar pockets and same fabric as the NF.
Excuse that I tried them both on over my work outfit but thanks for noticing Janet.

DKNY! DNKNY! Even in the way you describe it, it's evident it is the choice of your heart.
I can tell you right now, I own a similarly cut raincoat from The North Face, and the belt thing gets in my way. It has to be buckled, and so, it takes some time. When you are a busy MOTG, you need to just zip and be fab, you know?
I really like the first one on you.

I really like #2 but I don't like to fuss with belts so I would go for 1 which is a great fit, I love how the back dips a little lower!

I find the first one more flattering on you. The belt on the second one appears a bit high. When I've tried on fashion brands vs. gear brands, the gear generally seems more functional by far. For example, gear is more likely to be wind resistant, more functional pockets, etc. It sounds as though this isn't too much of a consideration here?

I have a strong preference for the DKNY jacket. The silhouette from the side and back are particularly flattering. It's like a hi-lo jacket in style and so has more visual interest but without the distracting belt. It's nice and "clean" looking you know?

I hear you about "upping" the style for casual items...that should be my new mantra as well! I think they both look good, but I like something about the North Face just a little better...maybe the belt? Always great quality/longevity w/NF I've learned too. They can withstand a lot of abuse. Oh...I love that dress/skirt I can see peeking out too...very pretty colors on you!

I bought this fab navy sporty jacket on great sale and was very happy with it (not worn yet due to weather not being cold enough). Until today I found another very similar one that I like too at the Rack. This is a casual jacket for MOTG (not freezing at soccer or baseball games), to be worn over sweaty gym clothes and for neighborhood walks. Not necessarily a fashion statement, but I'm not giving up completely on style.
Please help me choose between:
1-3 DKNY Topper. Dark navy with hood, has separate zip (black) liner and high low hem, also thumb hole for spandex sleeve (not sure what to call this). Pros - zipper goes up to allow sitting in car/walking; not too bulky, serves intended purpose
4-6 is Northface Apex Grace in Navy. Pros: hood is detachable, more of a trench style. Not sure I love the belt, although it helps it be not a tent. It is roomy and I could layer a lot under this.
Any ideas? Both are within the same price range (although 1 is $20 less) I don't need 2.
Thanks in advance.
