Oh, government! I shall have to ponder. Maybe color and pattern play in your shirts, but you prob want to keep your bottoms grounded and classic.

Re. How you divvy the budget: since being on YLF I've recalibrated, spending most on the capsule I spend the most time in... And I have to tell you, my happiness factor has sky rocketed. It made a big difference to me...

I see that you have a sporty tomboy thing going, like to keep things simple. I'd maybe try to bring that out more and in different ways. I really like the idea of sporty tomboy for you. I can see you in it (from your profile pic) and I can see it already there by your choices in your current wardrobe.

What's your new industry?
Rachylou, thank you for asking those questions. I think that's a really good place to start.

Ok, so I think my dilemma is that I just really started working in a professional environment about a year ago. Before that I was in non-profits and it was more casual than business. So I'm lacking in how to style my business wardrobe to make it interesting, because I never really focused on it. Also, I never accepted that I spend more time in my work clothes than my casual clothes, so perhaps I should dial back the spending on that category.

Out of the items I've posted, I do wear everything, because that's my way. I hate wasting stuff. But I could step up on wearing my skirts and blazers, and I have no idea how to style my less body-con trousers (chinos). You don't see a lot of my work pants here, because they are at the cleaners.

Oh! Always so much fun!

The color impression I get is Teal, Blue, Grey. Red accents now and then.

I would say "Casual Classic" instead of "Modern Classic."

In terms of making sure things stay fresh, I'd ask what you do with your time? Is your clothing working for you? Are there things you don't wear?
Liz, people are just looking to see if the outfit measures up to your own Fabness and not the other way 'round! :) So, instead of changing ourselves - too this, not enough that - we can make alterations to an outfit so that it lets you shine.
Hi Liz, I agree with Gaylene. I think Modern Classis fits you. When I look at the photos you posted, I see many pieces that appeal to me and I think I am Modern Classic. Personally, I have a hard time pairing items and making outfits. I tend to wear the same top with the same jeans, etc... so seeing the other ladies here and lerning from them has been fabulous so far. I did also enjoy Angie's MOTG posts as that seems to fit my life as well. Something else I am going to try....a site called Go chic or go home. You can upload photos of your clothing and it use their outfit builder feature to out things together. And I will continue to learn from Ingunn; her style remixes is a great source of inspiration for me!

Yay! Thanks, Gaylene. This is fun. Ingunn's style is exquisite, isn't it? I will start looking around.

OK, Liz, I'm not an expert at this by any means, but I'll give it a shot.

I'd call your style modern classic. You seem to like your bottoms in a neutrals with color on the top. Except for a couple of items, you prefer your prints on dresses. Most of the styles are fairly classic cuts, with a couple of exceptions like the pink skirt or ruffled top. Your footwear also seems to favor neutral colors and classic shapes.

One of the ideas that some of the forum members have used quite successfully to help them discover a style direction is to start creating capsules that force them to play around with different combinations. I'd suggest starting by looking at some of Ingunn's posts. She is the capsule queen around here and her style is similar to yours.

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-pic-heavy
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....avy-linked

I'd also take a look at some of Angie's posts in the Individual Style, Trends, and Mom on the Go categories to get some ideas. And, if you're comfortable, try posting pictures of possible outfits for comments and suggestions as another way to get started on finding your fashion direction. Good luck!

Taking a cue from a couple other posters and also as a way to introduce myself, I'm posting a selection of my wardrobe items for your input. I'm wondering how you would classify my style, if you see any holes, or anything that really doesn't belong, what direction you think I should go in.

What you're missing is mostly my casual clothes, e.g. jeans (bootcut and skinny), t-shirts, yoga pants, leggings, tank tops, pullover sweaters, more work pants, more work shoes, more sneakers (the low-pro ones), more dresses.

I'm not that focused on trends. I don't mind incorporating them if I like them, but I like my clothes to stand the test of time as well. Thanks for your help!
