I second Zap and Neelies. Alterations can be tricky and since this dress is strapless... it is quite versatile: you can use it with all kinds of toppers - jackets, when it will still be functioning as a dress or Tees/blouses, when it magically transforms itself on a skirt.

Instead of dress, you hv a dress AND a skirt in this model. 2 for the price of one.

Thank you lovely ladies for your thoughts and suggestions! I would never have thought of just adding straps! And I think that is a great idea. I also tried to wear the dress with the waistband higher and it worked much better!

I went to the tailors today and they will make straps and do some other alterings and repairs. This way I'll try out a strap version and if I don't like it, I may alter it to a skirt. But I see your point, Lantana - I like the print better on the dress than on a skirt version.

Thanks again! I'm so happy for remaking pieces I already have :-)

I am all for remaking items and do it often myself but in this case I vote keeping it as a dress. I think the print is more effective when it travels vertically up your body. Chopping it to make a skirt will lose that impact.
You could make wide white shoulder straps to match the waistband but I think the most effective solution is to wear a cropped denim jacket or a mesh or lacy white bolero or front tie cardie or something light that will give you more coverage.

Great as a skirt, you liked it for a reason, that will make it much more versatile.

Do you need to actually alter it? Maybe you can wear it a few times with a t-shirt or blouse over the top to see how you like it as a skirt. It's really a nice pattern.
I say keep the dress as is. I like it a lot. Pull the white band 1/4 of an inch higher. I think you are wearing it a tad lower. It is very flattering. I would just add a cropped light denim jacket, flat metallic or nude sandals and I'm done!
Lovely dress. You can also sew white bra straps to it, and voila, strapless no longer.

If you have a tailor who will do it, then it won't be a problem. If you do it yourself, the only thing you need to watch for is how it's made. You may need to change zippers, add elastic or things like that.

I have no alteration knowledge or skills at all, so I hope our talented tailors and seamstressses will chime in. But I do love the idea of transforming this dress into a skirt, Harmonica. Love the print on you, so nice for Spring and Summer.

At last great summer days! BUT one of my very few summer dresses is not making me super happy any longer :-/

I feel awkward in the almost strapless top on the dress. Could it be saved if altered to a skirt? Or is the pattern too overwhelming?

Not styled at all and sorry for bare feet. I just put on the tank to give you an impression.

Please be honest! Thank you for looking and commenting. Sorry for being MIA and just making this post. Life is hectic!
