I like your thoughtful assessments, Jackie. YOU have to wear the piece - and if the back length bugs you - well - NEXT. xo

I'm so torn on this one, Jackie. You know best, of course, and that back view probably would have bothered you ... but the front. OMG. Super fabulous and very Jackie. Sending wishes to the universe that the right sweatshirt finds it way to you soon.

I have also struggled with the fit of sweaters from NAS this year. And anything that is pricey must be a 10, no exceptions. When you find something that truly is a 10, it's much easier to say no to the 7, or 8s which it sounds like this top was.

Sorry you didn't love it, you're a better person then me, for sure I'm not even gonna consider it, as I have the Caslon and several other alternates. I love asymmetry and drape...one day, your prince (sweater) will come!

The jacket fit is perfect - shoulders, sleeve length, length... And looks fantastic. I see what you mean, though, about how the cut looks on the back. Not that it's unflattering at all on you. I think it would bother me too as I would "feel" the unevenness and fuss with it. I agree, If it's pricey it better be 100% perfect.
And, bummer that the Munroes arrived just one hour after your departure!

It's an amazing jacket and am impressed at the strength it must have taken to send that baby back. It is phenomenal on you! I would have decided that I could wear it with grey/black so that the asymmetric back didn't bother me. I think it's super cool on you but agree that at that price point, it has to be a 10!!

Wow Jackie that HL jacket looks AMAZING on you! But I totally understand if you don't feel super good in it. But wow!!! The self control though!

I've seen Fabbers here with the Caslon. I'm really REALLY thinking about it too!

Love the HL. Back view included. But you know yourself better than anyone else so you did the right thing. I have a similar HL but not sure it's still sold. I think bloomies was the source. Good luck w the alternatives too.

Thanks Suz. Yes it was tough at first to say no to the HL, but really it is super pricey for my budget, and I know I'd be fidgeting with the back bit all the time - or at least I'd be self concious of how my rear end was looking.

You are an enabler. Might check out that sweater - it looks fab on you

ETA - it's sold out in small in black. I think a Med might be too big.

Wow, Jackie, you are a pro!! That is shopping with an iron will!

I'm not sure I'd have had your fortitude because the jacket does look amazing on you from the front for sure! I don't mind the back view at all, either, in fact I think it is excellent. But I do understand the issue about tops underneath it. What you have on in the photos looks fine, but having to fuss with something is no good.

I wonder....How are you supposed to layer it? I guess the only way is with a dress? I wonder if Una will pop in to say what she does? But it would be much longer on her as she is petite.

Definitely order the Caslon in small. Maybe order that Kenneth Cole cardigan, too. It would be a good weight for your climate. Comes in black.

I know a few of you have this gorgeous Helmut Lang villous sweatshirt, and I've been eyeing it up for some time. I ordered the Caslon draped cardigans when in the back of my mind I think I really wanted the HL. So when I didn't love the Caslon (on me) when I tried it on in person, and had already mentally decided I'd send those back, I pulled the trigger on the HL top. I found it through a Canadian sight (ssense) at a better price (for Cdns) plus free shipping and free returns (Yay!).

It arrived this morning when I was in the US picking up (and returning the Caslons) part of my NAS order.

I slipped it on and, HEAVEN!!! Gorgeously soft and such at dream...from the front. I put it through its paces in my closet and slowly came to the sad realization that I didn't love it from behind. I have a super long torso, and a square backside that seemed to be highlighted by the assymetrical (but gorgeous) hemline of the sweater.

So I madly packaged it up and sent it back asap. Once I've decided it's a nay, it's a nay right now. Thought I'd share the photos with you, as I find this to be a helpful exercise.

In a way I am very proud of myself since previously I may have kept it since it looks so good (I think) from the front. I wear quite fluid tops as a general rule, and I think the constant poking out of half of my top on one side would drive me crazy. Or I'd be limited to very lightweight, tucked in tops.

Part of me is thinking maybe I should give the small black Caslon cardi a try - maybe I just didn't like the morel colour on me. I still may, since I have to drive back in a couple of weeks to pick up the Munros which just arrived at my box today (Ugh) an hour after I left...

What do you think?
