Nice to meet you!

If the skirt is not a favourite I would not buy a new top specifically to go with it. I would look at a different skirt/pants with one of your white tops, that are all fine, especially 1 and 4. A more tailored skirt would work well. Given you have been a student you may have a tight budget - I could see a straight denim one looking wonderful on you or cropped pants.

However of these I like 4, or I like Lisa's suggestions if you have something else at home.

I like the skirt for summer, so I am just going on your comment that it has been an orphan and not a favourite.

Nice boho skirt. I know tucking isn't a great option here (elastic waist); so look for a cropped top in black or white....I'm imagining the skirt with black cold shoulder cropped top.

I quite like #3&4, and can't for the life of me imagine why you wouldn't want to wear sleeveless in public. You've got slim, lovely arms!

Here are a few images that could give you more styling idea.

Lisa, great idea with the updated cardigan. I seem to live in them at the library (stereotypes!) and should really up the ante fashion wise instead of shlubbing around. I had high hopes of wearing knit blazers and jackets but felt way overdressed in class. So, fringe!

Xtabay, I love linen and will be on the lookout.

Suz, I will definitely be on the lookout for a more structured white top. I should also give a denim jacket a whirl. I've never found the right one, somehow, but love them on others.

Smittie and Angie, yes - shoes! My summer shoe options are in a bad state. Can't just go barefoot? I have a pair of snake print pointy toed d'orsay flats and a pair of Birkenstocks. Neither would be best with this skirt! I need to get on that right away. Have not needed summer footwear at all yet, but summer must be coming sometime!

Re: tucking. This skirt has an elastic/shirred waist (that's probably what keeps it fitting), but it's hard to tuck unless I use a quite wide belt.

Fun wavy hair, gorgeous pearls, and lovely to see you again. Cute skirt too.

Can you semi tuck #3 and fully tuck #4? Failing that, you're after a short fitted tank top, or a longer one that you can tuck. Denim jacket for a/c.

What are we putting on your feet?

Your hair is so so pretty with your loose curl. Wow!
I certainly think you can salvage the skirt. Maybe a pair of black gladiators or lace up sandals would work with the boho look.

Yay! So great to see your face. I like the hair, too!

The skirt is fun for summer. I would love to see it as Lisa suggests. Or with a more structured or fitted white or cream top, tucked or semi-tucked. And denim jacket against the AC.

Your arms are terrific! But I do understand the wish to keep them out of the sun. And if the AC is on, you need coverage anyway.

Linen by nature is such a crisp, structured sort of fabric, so you might give some linen tops a whirl with this skirt.

It's a cute boho skirt - and I'd like to see it with a black tank (tucked a bit , or more fitted) and a denim jacket or updated cardigan (maybe something with some detail - fringe, topstitching ? ) . Your hair is pretty ! And if you can only imagine how a few of us would love to have skirts and pants hanging off of our hipbones ;)

Xtabay and Mochi - more structure - I think you're right. I seem to be drawn to voluminous tops but then end up with volume on top + volume on bottom once summer hits with its loose pants/skirts. Good thing to ponder.

Liz, yes, I thought that looked most flattering. Unfortunately, experience tells me that bared arms make me nervous, so I sweat. Yuck! I'm also bothered by the sensation of broiling sun beating down on my bare shoulders. Makes summer top shopping complicated.

Diane, thanks. I will try tucking and a belt.

I agree, I think a top with more structure is needed. Actually have you considered tucking the top in #4 and adding a belt at the waist?

I agree. A more fitted t-shirt, since the skirt is rather voluminous. 3 is the closest you're coming in your pics, but maybe more fitted than that. It's a pretty skirt.

Cute skirt! I think a white knit top with a bit of structure would work well. Maybe one of the cold-shoulder ones that are out now. Or a boho peasant top, one that could be worn off the shoulders if that works for you.

Well, hi everyone. Suz has lured me back out of lurkerdom, at least temporarily. I'm so touched that she remembered and thought of me - what a great group of people there is here at YLF!

I've just finished my first year back in school full time. The program has very much suited me, but it keeps me even busier than I'd imagined. I am pretty much ready to crash once the kids head to bed each night and never take WIW photos or post. I do read the blog and forum and sometimes try to comment. I have really enjoyed "getting to know" the new forum members through their posts but feel a little creepy for reading but never posting!

As far as wardrobe, I've been mostly coasting along on old Angie picks and other YLF-influenced items. Everything is starting to fall apart, though, through excessive wear. And what isn't going to pieces has gotten too loose. My body shape has shifted - my nursing mother bust has disappeared (yea!) and settled into my legs (boo!). To add to the fit issues, I've lost about 5 pounds this year, and the slow shrinking action seems to be continuing.

So, since this is getting way too long - I'm wondering if this skirt can be saved. It was cheap (ON) and has never been a favorite. It does have the upside, though, of actually fitting instead of dangling precariously from my hipbones, as do most of my other skirts and pants. I couldn't get anything other than white to work on top. Exuse the no-makeup, shoeless look!

1. How I would probably wear - cardigan to stop the AC.

2. Can't decide if this shirt looks intentionally oversized or sloppy. Maybe reserve for slim pants?

3. ? What can I say.

4. 99% chance I would not wear this in public. Despite Angie's cheerleading, I just can't handle sleeveless tops without a topper (on myself).

5. Bonus: How I'm usually wearing my hair, inspired by Mochi's curls.

Any and all suggestions, please. I don't mind passing this (or these tops) along if it's hopeless. I'd rather have a microscopic wardrobe of 8-10s than a closetful of 5s. I know the skirt on its own isn't a 10, but...
