Yayyyy ! Thanks for the intro. And it is nice to "meet" you. You have landed in the right place. Dressing one's truth is very tricky...there is so much involved it can seem overwhelming. I know that you are talking about a specific program, but I am talking in general. I look forward to seeing your journey.

Hi again Elizabeth, yes, I'm a T3. I loved the black/white/red combo for years, so you can imagine my shock at discovering I was a T3 and my entire wardrobe was in the "wrong" colours! I did the same as you, randomly buying things just because they were my type without much regard to whether they resonated with me. But I'm up for a challenge now and I reckon we're going to have tons of fun discovering our own personal styles!

Hi again Molly... came to see if I could find more from you From your description, you must be a T3? I have T3 envy I'm a 4. Anyway, just wanted to say that it sounds like we really are in the same place, just on different paths. Good luck to us both!

Hi great to hear from you, I'm from the UK too and I had my colours done about 4 years ago. I'm a soft autumn and I found it really helpful to go through the process. Btw I paid £84 including some make up. I have lots of Autumn inspiration on my pinterest boards : http://pinterest.com/dibev/ feel free to have a look. If your not already on Pinterest I can send you an invite. You should have a great time on YLF. ENJOY!

Shortly before getting into Dressing Your Truth I named the style I wanted to pursue as "Victorian Explorer". This somehow got forgotten in the excitement over colour theory, but it's something I want to come back to. Other style names that appeal to me are "arty/posh eclectic" and something that was said in the "I am not a princess" thread (though I can't remember who said it - sorry!) - somebody said that they saw themselves as an eccentric court librarian or alchemist. That description totally rules!

I've discovered over this past year that I really don't care for casual dressing at all. In jeans and a T-shirt I just don't feel like ME. I don't want to go back to the fifties influences either as that's not me any more either.

What I really do like are steampunk/victorian influences and the 1930's/40s. In terms of specific things, I favour button-up shirts and blouses rather than T-shirts or jerseys. I quite like those two layer tops that look as if you're wearing a shirt underneath a tank top. I favour skirts over dresses, I like shoes and boots with buckles or laces rather than slip ons and I especially like any footwear with brogueing details. Heels must be low to medium. I LOVE tartan and diagonal stripes. Coats must have a defined waists and I especially love any coat in an upholstery fabric. My favourite colours are green, brown, cream, burgundy and purple, with small amounts of orange.

Reading back over this, I guess I have a fairly well defined sense of what I like? The tricky part seems to be now finding and buying pieces that I really love and then incorporating them into outfits. I think I'm going to practise slow shopping this year and only buy something if I love it.

Anyway, I've waffled on long enough for now. Thank you for endulging me and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hello, I'm Molly. I'm 29 and from the UK. I'm looking to further hone my style this year after going on a bit of a six month shopping binge at the end of last year!

I originally posted this in the Who's Who thread, but it turned into an essay of frankly epic proportions! So I'm giving it its own thread.

I'm pear shaped and tend to favour A-line and full skirts over pencil skirts and trousers. Up until last year I felt that I'd really lost my way with style. Whilst at college I dabbled in lots of different styles, rocker, punk, gothic lolita, but some time around 2006-2007 I lost my confidence and retreated into jeans and band t-shirts.

From 2008-2009 I was into rockabilly style. 2010 I was still into 1950's style, but the rockabilly influence was fading and I was wearing more floral prints. 2011 I had a kind of style meltdown when I noticed that my style evolution had gone: 2009 - fifties bombshell, 2010 - fifties sweetheart, 2011 - fifties drudge. After that I lost my nerve and went around wearing what seemed like nothing but black and navy for ages.

Last year I decided to take myself in hand and started looking into colour analysis. From my research online I suspected I might be a warm/true autumn and considered going to "get my colours done" professionally, but the prices around london seemd to be £95-£120. I then discovered a system online from the US called Dressing Your Truth and jumped into that wholeheartedly. I purged and replaced most of my wardrobe, getting rid of all the black, white and navy, which felt really good and seems to have made me look less ill.

However, 7 months on, I think I've reached the limits of what Dressing Your Truth can teach me. I was so desperate to get rid of all the black et al that I shopped really quickly, looking for colour rather than considering my personal style. As a result, I've ended up with loads of plain coloured long and short sleeve T's, some skirts, a few pairs of trousers and some sundry other items. There's nothing wrong with anything I've bought, but it just feels too conservative and "safe".

To be continued...
