Thanks for chiming in, Angie! I was hoping I’d get your expert opinion!

I’ve worn both the BR and Madewell pants with cuffs equivalent to the length you suggest and they do look great at that length so maybe I’ll commit to it and get them hemmed.

I walked into the store to return the Uniqlo pants yesterday and couldn’t bring myself to, so maybe they’re keepers after all. My only concern is what to wear on top. I’ll style them with some options.

#1 - Cuff once, or hack 1.5 inches

#2 - Hack and cuff to crop like my new red jeans. See Find.

#3 - Hack at least 2 inches off.

My faves - Pics #12 -13! The ones you want to return :)

La Pedestrienne - these are the 26” length. The others would be full length on me and I’m not quite ready for 2002-style floor length bootcuts yet though I’m sure I’ll get there. These are an awkward length but I could hem them. Good question about size - my cheeky straight jeans are a size smaller than these.

Anchie - I only wear black, so it’s not too many exactly. But solid black bottoms are hard for me to style. As I move away from skinnies, I’m more drawn to faded or distressed black washes, to break up the “black hole” effect. The Uniqlo pants might be hard to style with black tops, now that I think about it...

Nice to hear from you. Congrats on the job and house! Onto the pants...

I love the grey BRs (1/2) and the Madewells (5/6). I think the Uniqlo's are just all around too big, but might change my mind if I saw them cropped with some ankle showing...

I actually like the Everlane bootcuts better than the cropped straights (I may be biased, because I've tried both and kept the bootcuts, sent back the straights as they seemed to have extra fabric in the wrong places). I wonder if you don't need a size down in the bootcuts -- that washed black denim stretches a fair amount. Are these the 26" or the 28" inseam?

The Uniqlo U wide legs look quite good to me. They're different and interesting, and I feel like lantern pants might be a bit of a thing right now (along with lantern sleeves).

I also like 12-13, they seem little bit different than the rest, while 5-11 all look very similar to each other at least on my phone. Do you need that many black bottoms?

Greyscale, so good to hear from you. Wonderful that the job is going well. Faculty position can be all consuming and so rewarding. Your house looks lovely.
I like the BR pants a lot. I just bought my first pair of BR jeans and love them. What do the Uniqlo jeans look like cuffed? I like the length of the Madewell jeans but I am not an expert when it comes to PPL.

I agree that pics 1-6 are great. 3/4 I would either hem or try with a large cuff like Angie's COS pair, if you like that. The others I also think you can do better.

Your new house looks lovely. Super that you have a perfect spot for photos. Well done with the faculty job; lovely to see you.

I’m thinking the trousers in 12 / 13 look super - the drape of the fabric looks to be just right. But you need to feel they are right so please ignore! But just in case you are hesitating! I’m a little confused over which are which though as I’m on my mobile.

Greyscale - its great to see you and congratulations on the new house and job.

I agree with Jenni. Of the new pants (with tags) I like the Everlane's in photo 7 & 8 the best. However don't keep if they are 'not you'. There are lots more black and grey jeans out there.

Thanks Jenni! I should take another photo with the Uniqlo jeans (photos 3/4) folded up so I can see potential hemming lengths. Here's the Find for those. I guess they're intentionally large - I bought a 25 instead of my usual 27!

Hi Greyscale awesome to see you! I have wondered where you were. Great news about the job going well, and the house.
Pics 1/2, perfect.
Pics 3/4, too long, sort of puddling at ankles.
Pics 5/6 great as they are.
All the new ones I have no opinion on length really but not liking the Uniqlo wide legs so much, that may be my own poison eye for wide legs though so feel free to ignore!

It’s been a while! I started my faculty job (busy) and bought an adorable little house and fashion dropped off my priority list for quite a few months. But once again it’s fall and shops are full of things I like.

Jeans styles have changed and I’m excited. I’ve been procrastinating on hemming some jeans because I can’t decide whether I’m ready for full length - or more likely, just hitting the ankle bone, which seems to be the current trend. My short legs mean that even the most cropped pants are full length on me.

Here are a few I’ve bought and need to decide on hemming:
1. Banana Republic straight jeans. My first BR jeans and an instant workhorse. They’re meant to be more cropped but I actually think this length works. Good with flats and doc martens, but not quite right for oxfords.
2. Uniqlo straight jeans. They’re bigger than I realized (I went down two sizes) but I love them. I think they should be cropped though?
3. Madewell wide leg cropped. Another instant workhorse bought several months ago. I was going to hem them but I think this length is very current.

And some whose tags I haven’t cut yet:
1. Everlane lightweight straight leg crop. I think these are great but they’re not quite my usual style in some subtle way. Here they’re full length and also folded up to show a cropped length option.
2. Everlane cropped bootcut. I’m not in love with them.
3. Uniqlo U curved wide leg trousers. I think I’m returning these.

Thoughts on lengths are appreciated for all of these!
