I have a big bottom/thighs and a small waist. In general, I like my pants to be higher rise. pretty fitted through the hip and thigh, and not too stretchy. I like both straight/skinny styles and bootcut styles. Trousers are hit or miss for me, but they can look very nice if they drape well (not too stiff) and are fairly fitted in the thigh. I do have pretty long legs for my height, so I can get away with wearing lower shoes a lot of time but some tall heels also help balance the pear if you want to go that route.

I also have the BR martin skinnies and they fit very well. For jeans, some brands/styles that have worked for me are Kut from the Kloth (size down!), Red Engine, Lucky Sweet n Low, and Joe's jeans.

Hi Jayne -
I have big thighs but a little waist (30 years of running and weight training). I have good luck with Ann Taylor curvy fit pants. They have a lot of trouser styles, a few straight legs here and there. If you wear heels, the extra height can help offset the wideness of a trouser leg. For jeans, Levi's curve ID in the bold curve has been great for me. They have bootcut, straight and slim fit. They run small so you may have to get a size or two up from your usual. When I do find pants or jeans that fit, I snap them up in every color available because I've had styles get discontinued on me in the past!

Hi Jayne, I am a pear with large legs too. I always find that Jones New York fit well and have ample leg room. Also lately I have been wearing skinnies from Penningtons who have just redesigned all their pants. They look great with a tunic top. My best source is Navabi.com who have lots of great wider lag pants...all very hip styles. I like loose linen pants and you can find those there. Just try to wear with a bit of a heel to lengthen your leg and keep the top more body hugging and you should look great.

Jayne, I have heavy thighs too and I wear skinnies with tunics all the time! As Celia mentioned I have BR Martin fit skinnies and they are the best I was able to find so far from n0-denim category. I also have wide leg trousers from Tall Girl store and love them too. Sure there is a lot of fabric but it looks intentional rather than "I am trying to hide my thighs" kind and I really like them in action: there is something insanely elegant in wide leg trousers in motion, not revealing but nontheless seductive :-)
And there are jeans of course - the best friend for heavy thighs because sunstantial fabric helps to shape them. So far Paige is my go to premium brand (I did not have luck with Gap jeans so far).

To my eye, trouser leg pants make my short legs look stumpy since they are relatively wide. I really, really want to find stovepipe dress pants, preferably lined. If they fit right, they skim the thigh and then go straight down so have the potential to flatter even more than bootcuts. I saw them on the AT web site almost completely sold out, so others must like them. Otherwise, I like straight legged jeans which some manufacturers call skinnies, but they are only skinnies on bodies like ours! Also, you don't have to worry so much about PPL with narrower bottoms.

Dresses/skirts make my legs look like sausages if they are too narrow at the hem, and the flared dresses I've seen skew too young and short for me. Maybe I should actively look. . .nothing like a flared skirt for walking and sitting down. . .

Hello fellow pear. For me GAP bootcut pants have the best shape. They skim the thights without making them look bigger.
Have you tried them?
I know that Sveta has some pants from Banana Republic, I think they are the Martin fit( better ask her...)

Welcome! I try and avoid the sausage look too...I buy straight leg jeans (love those from GV and CC) more so than bootleg or skinny. It's easier to get a decent look in jeans/pants that have a little stretch- not too much or it can be very, very bad for those of us with heavy legs. I would look thru some WIW (what I wore) posts of several members and see if you can find someone with a similar body type...also eye-catching details (scarves/necklaces/embroidered necklines keep the eyes up near your face) around the face/neck work wonders!

Hi Jayne,
I live in pants (rarely wear dresses or skirts). I like straight leg or trouser leg pants. I have yet to find a pair of "skinnies" that I like on me yet but I am still willing to look and try them on. I have been identified as a combo hourglass/pear (hourglass on top and sort of pear on the bottom). You just need to keep trying things on and experimenting and don't let conventional wisdom dictate what you are willing to consider wearing.

To any other gals with heavy legs, do you find a decent pants? I try and try but have kinda given up trying to find those elusive 'skims the leg' so recommended for us in the style books.

I see all the time suggestions that to hide our heavy legs we should find these straight leg pants but I feel like an elephant in them...and I don't want to feel that hiding is the solution.

So I just try and make sure now that the "sausage look" is minimize and accept alot of hug in my lower half clothes. I do wear dresses most of the time, but recently with the cold I have had to wear pants, and posting here I see I have a clear trend on picking skinny pants.

Has anyone else found a better solution?
