Had to pop in to say I broke the 120 barrier this morning. Hallelujah. I watched my food this week and it paid off. Of course, there is a wine tasting at the store down the street tonight, so it may be short lived. Isn't that how life is? lol

I'm feeling rather discouraged with the weight I've put on since I started working full time. I've gone up two pant sizes recently and can't fit into many of my old favorites. I thought the problem was that I was just more sedentary than I used to be, so started running 3 miles three times a week and have kept that up for several months. No weight loss at all. My eating habits are fairly good. I don't eat junk food and eat plenty of vegetables. Perhaps my metabolism has just slowed down a lot?

To be honest, I've been eating in ways that my body doesn't really like. Halloween candy has been a daily indulgence, and popcorn (albeit very healthy stovetop stuff with coconut oil and heirloom corn) as a semi-weekly treat. But I know grains aren't for me, even heirloom ones.

And my body feels it. I wake up stuffed up. We have been active, lots of walking, and today during our walk I felt large and logy.

In 2014 we are going full-on primal for the first six months. I truly am excited about that, and so is DH, but for now we are indulging in all the no-no's and feeling self-righteous.

@K: Allergies have been a problem around here for the last two weeks--FYI. I haven't checked pollen/allergen counts but I know they are up in this area based on my family barometer--itchy eyes and throats.

Um, I'm just plugging away. I don't really have a goal except to get my leg back to normal. That's long term though. I'm thinking about joining the under 120 club--not sure though. (Feel like I'm coming down with something.)

I lost two pounds last week, which puts me two pounds further away from the beer gut division. I got hammered on call and did not eat dinner Saturday and Sunday, so you would think I would have lost more weight on the weekend but I did not.

Janet, ditto the vanity pounds being an issue for me right now. I remember weighing a pound more than I do now right before my triathlon. I know I was very healthy and fit at that point in time. That was 5 years ago, before I even hit 40. So why is it driving me cuckoo to be 2 or 3 more pounds than normal right now?
I think since getting here this month I've started to finally feel older and maybe I wonder if my metabolism is going to take a dive and what I'm starting to see is the beginnings of the midlife paunch. I also can't seem to shake it in a few days like before. Emotionally, I'm sure I'm filling a hole with food and wine. That's what the shrinking heads would say, I'll bet.

I have been exercising a pretty good amount. Running and/or biking at least every other day, and walking on the days when I don't run or bike. The fitbit is really motivating me, which is great.

Foodwise, I've been slacking on the healthy stuff lately, since my husband has been home and we've been treating ourselves. I'll get back on a healthier track tomorrow, with the weekend over!

I am a little frustrated with my weight (even though I don't know exactly what it is, since I don't own a scale!). I kind of expected that I might lose a few pounds after my surgery earlier this year, since they were removing an organ with a heck of a lot of extra mass on it. But that just didn't seem to happen. Part of me would love to get back down to under 135 (which is really only a 7-9 lb loss according to my last doctor appointment in late July) and part of me wonders if my body is just stuck where it is. I'm also wondering if my recent fixation on this is just a little psychological messed up stuff, because last week I bought a new pair of jeans and was horrified that I had to go up to a 31 in them to get the fit I wanted. But my old jeans still fit, so it's not like I had to size up because I'm getting bigger. At least I don't think so.

Usually I don't care much about this, as long as my clothes fit. I need to do some thinking about why vanity pounds are bothering me these days, even though I am at a healthy weight.

I am in the camp of those stubborn couple of pounds. One or two is all I ask lol. Did run a couple times and got on the bike for some short errands. I do planks and push ups randomly every couple days.
I'm dealing with switching health dept's since moving and trying to get a rx switched over. I use Seasonique and it's that quarterly time of the year again (TOM for most gals). I can blame some of my bloat on that but not really. I have been up in lbs since the first week of moving.
The good is that I am doing better with my wine intake. The bad is I seem to be making up the calorie difference with food :/ It's a wash and I'm still looking to dip under 120 like Mary K.
This week I plan to continue running, biking and planking. Would love to get back to yoga at least once a week, but I seem to have a real block with getting it going.

Overall a good week. My first physical therapy session went well. We're working on strengthening the smaller ab muscles, the external and interior oblique, so as to let the main abs rest and heal. I'm using the lidocaine patches over the most painful area and most days it helps.

Bad news is that I felt so much better yesterday that I overdid it and had to backtrack a bit today. Also, just cannot lose that last 3-4 pounds that will help me match up with the waistline of most of my clothes. Better news is that I am maintaining.

House guests this week, but I'm still going to go to physical therapy and will work hard on maintaining healthy eating.

@Dianthus - I don't think my allergies were the problem only because they've just started in the past 2 weeks. I think I need to get use to my new office building. Thanks for the suggestion about doubling the dose!

@Diana - Thanks for the suggestion! I use to have a prescription for flonase (sp?), so I'll see if I can get another one.

I'm feeling much more like myself this week. Managed to keep up with Angie at the YLF meetup yesterday, so I feel like that is a pretty major milestone! :)

Weight is down a little, which is pretty surprising given that I went out to lunch every day this past week! Still trying to get under 120.

I'm going back to work this week and my goal is to walk to work at least twice and keep my food intake reasonable. Will hold off on the gym for another week at least. I see my surgeon on Tuesday and we'll see what he has to say about that.

Good luck, everybody!

I'm glad you are getting more control over your headaches, Kristin. BTW I have just been prescribed a steroid spray for my sinuses as I frequently feel stuffy and headachey.
Sounds like we are all getting on track with being more healthy. As for me.. well I got a fair bit of exercise on Friday night when me and 3 friends when on a mini pub crawl and dancing. Well, ok the alcohol wasn't very healthy but I sure walked and danced my feet off! Today I did a short workout of some cardio and exercise bike. I also plan to walk most mornings next week before I start my work from home. I'm planning some healthy lunches for myself too.

K, is there any chance that your headaches are caused by the allergies? I find short of a full blown migraine with the precursor impaired vision, not much tops the pain of a wicked sinus headache. Double dose reactine (zyrtac in the U.S.) was very helpful but often add in a steroid inhaler. I think I may do that today in fact.

Congrats Laurinda. Not much is better than fitting into an old favorite.

I was teaching a class last week and was out of my usual office, working longer hours and entertaining some of the out of towners so my exercise was non-existent and I ate a tub of ice cream to boot.

I got back on track yesterday and hit my target for steps and active minutes. I am also back to logging my food. I weighed this morning to see what the damage was and I am only up half a pound. I was hoping for less than 3 lbs so this is great encouragement for me. I have my treadmill set up with a tv and roku box so I can watch netflix and watch an episode of a show. I already got in over half of my steps today. woo hoo.

I get a surge of enthusiasm about keeping healthy as fall sets in. Or maybe I am just steeling myself for the temptations of Holiday Season. I'm recommitting to staying in ketosis, and doing something active every day.

Good news: I found a 'too small' box of shorts and pants I set aside a few years ago, and half of them fit. My goal is to fit back into my favorite pair of flannel-lined jeans (so old they are 100% cotton) this winter.

Great to hear about the headaches, and encouraging thoughts to everyone!

Hi everyone! How was last week?

Things are going pretty well. And the headaches are finally getting better! Now if I could just get these allergies under control. :(

For this week, my goal is to keep my exercise the same - walking and yoga daily - but I'm working on eating healthier. I know I need to get more fruits and veggies in. So, that's my big change for the week. Add at least 2 extra servings of fruits and veggies. I also have made my first fruit water today. It's just 2 limes cut up in a gallon of water, but hopefully it will keep my drinking more water.

What are you're goals for the week?
