Anne, I know exactly what you mean about not having the time or energy to train. When I did my half I felt like I barely had enough time to get ready for it. I was working and would do my runs atlunch and try to do a longer one on the weekend. And it was tiring with everything else going on. Doing a full marathon is kind of a bucket list thing for me. I feel like now is probably the best time for me. I'm off for the year on MAT leave, so I can run when the baby is asleep or take him in the chariot, and if that's all I get done that day then ate ok. I'm at a good age and probably my peak of running, and I don't have any injuries. I know when I go back to work I would not have e time to train, especially as I get closer and really have to beef up my run distances. But I don't think I'll be doing many long races after this one. I will definitively keep running, cause I love it, but a few 1/2 hour runs per week is enou to keep me fit and feeling good. I don't think I could run like I am now, and will be per the next few months, for years and years of my life.

Kristen - no suggestions but you have my sympathy

This week I was really tired and down at the beginning of the week (after running on Sunday and spin Monday morning) so took an exercise break tues and wed. Thurs I did spin, then ran 1/2 hr on treadmill and did an arm weights session as well as 1/2 or so of bike riding with my 4 year old in bike seat.
Today I am resting but plan to run with DD9 tomorrow morning.

Rae -I never answered your questions last week about marathons. I don't plan to run them. I am having a rest from HM's too. My body just isn't up to running more than 3 times a week, and the long runs that are necessary to build up to a long distance race really take it out of me which I think isn't that fair on my family. I am trying to do about 10-12km as my long run atm which is hard enough ! My hips and left leg start hurting by about the 8km mark.

@Rae - I have a couple of running tops that are suppose to wick away sweat and that's what I've been wearing. And it lasts the whole run. Granted, the run lasts all of 10 minutes because I get itching so bad I want to claw my stomach off. I think I may try to make an appt with my physician to see if anything can be done. Walking doesn't bother me, so maybe I should just stick to that.

I am having a so so week. Doing fine with the running, but off and on with the ab moves. My back is especially sore so that's partly why. Also, I'm just being lazy! Food is also mediocre. Not eating too much, but not eating the best choices, either. Wine intake also in the fair zone. 2 or 3 glasses most nights. Ah, well. Status quo is better than back sliding, no?

Kristin - that's really strange! Not sure. The best I can think of is your shirt. Do you have a nice running top that wicks the sweat off? I get kinda itchy if my sweat gets trapped on my skin. If you're going to run a lot, the right gear is really worth it. Could also just be the fact that your blood circulation is ramped up, and maybe it will go away in a few minutes. Have you tried running through it or does it last for a whole run?

Well today I feel like a bucket of crap....so definitely no running for me. I just want to go to bed. And the thought of most food makes me want to hurl. I hope I'm not coming down with the flu, there's not much I hate more than the flu. But my 5 month old is a little cranky too, and has flushed cheeks, so I'm a little afraid we're both sick.....boo....

If you are having a great week come and get kudos, if you are having an awful week come for the commiseration ;-).

What I learned this week: Water aerobics are deceptively tough. You don't feel it at the time, but the next morning -- OY!

I have a question that maybe a few runners have had. I tried jogging, but every time I went more than 100 steps, my whole abdomen started itching like mad. I have some great skin allergies, but I've never had a problem like that. Any ideas what could be happening?

Ran again today, and I have had a pain in my right side since last night's run. I am prone to kidney stones, mostly when pregnant (I passed a 5mm one this last pregnancy), so I hope it's not that...but so far it doesn't feel like one. Maybe more a dehydration cramp.

I pulled a muscle in my back, so I'm laying off exercise for a few days. Very annoyed by that! But I did have a healthy lunch of leftovers today: salmon, lentils, and broccoli. Also a healthy breakfast: nonfat Greek yogurt with blueberries, kiwi, and a little granola. I'm making walnut crusted chicken for dinner tonight.

I have been skipping these threads because I was sick for so long, then we started this kitchen remodel, and it has been impossible to find the time to get out and get some exercise OR eat well since we can barely be in the house. I would like to get back on track as I can feel my weight creeping up. So I'm pledging to eat better and get out with the dog this week!

Awesome link Laurinda, thanks! It's funny because I know so much of that, and I still find it terribly hard to quit. This week has been really good though! I allow myself one or two cookies at night with my tea when the kids are in bed, but the rest of the day it's off limits. And it's getting easier. I think there is no easy way to quit it, I have to power through for a month or so and then I hope it will be much easier. I can still remember as a teenager I was a vegetarian and I never ate chocolate. I remember getting boxes of candies for Christmas and them just sitting in my closet for a year! They wouldn't last a day now! But it reminds me that it is possible for me to quit my addiction.

So I did my run yesterday. Good run, baby had a nap in his chariot too! Today I must run again, but probably won't get it done until the kids are in bed. Not my favorite time to run, but sometimes it must be done.

This is a good video if you are looking to strengthen your resolve against sugar. It is from Dr. Robert Lustig, pediatric endocrinologist at UCSF (who did 'Sugar the Bitter Truth' video).

Well I skipped yesterday so I must run today. Luckily we are having some unseasonably warm weather today, so I think I will take my little guy out in the chariot today, rather than run the treadmill again.

Fall and Winter always wreck havoc on my diet and exercise. I finally weighed in after 3 weeks and found out I was up 1.6 lbs. Not good. My plan is to start my half training regimen this week and take my regular HIIT classes. I definitely have a plan to lose 5-10 lbs by New Years's Eve. Good luck everyone.

I made a bunch of food for the week to keep me on track: the Weight Watchers zero point veggie soup someone suggested in my veggies thread (and it's awesome!), roasted veggies, baba ghanoush, and DH is making fruit crumble for breakfasts. Still need to make granola, and almond crackers.

Tea (decaf chai) in the evening instead of a nightcap is also in the plan.

I am occasionally doing planks at night, but I need to get back into regular routine.
I also am going to run as much as I can/want while I have the great weather to do so these next few weeks before we move back.
So, goals: strength moves daily

I am hoping to be back on my regular schedule after slacking off on the exercise a little last week. Here's my plan:

Monday: Trainer, Tap Class
Tuesday: Boot Camp Class
Wednesday: Trainer
Thursday, Friday, Saturday: Boot Camp Class

I will also continue to stick to my low-fat vegan diet as well as possible. Hubby is back on site after being gone for a month so it's a little more challenging than when it's just me, but I am hanging in there.

I hear you all on minimizing the holiday stress! We are leaving on our big trip in a little over three weeks, and I am planning on doing all of my (pretty limited) shopping on the trip. And since we will be gone for pretty much all of December I am not worrying about anything having to do with Christmas at all -- we will skip the tree and celebrate in a very low-key way with just Hubby and me and my parents. (The big celebration will be the visit with my son in Japan a few days before Christmas!)

My eating has not been the greatest (leftover pizza warming up for lunch now), but I ran 6 miles yesterday and have been getting back on a more consistent running schedule. I have a 10k next weekend so I wanted to get that many miles in one run yesterday to see how it felt. It's been a while, as I've been mainly doing 3-4 miles. I'm a little sore today, and I was slow yesterday (averaged a 12-min mile), but I just have to remind myself all I can do is my best. I am apparently built for endurance, not speed.

A new start! I need to do longer runs this week. Well at least one long one. And I think 5 total would be good.

Those muffins look good Alicat! I know what you mean about wanting to relax for the holidays. I've gotten most of my Christmas shopping done already and I'm so happy. The malls are already way to crowded, I don't even want to see them at all in December.

I'm looking forward to a good week. I'm planning two Zumba classes and three weight workouts.

Yesterday I made these muffins as a gift for a neighbor, keeping a few for us. They were yum and fairly healthy for being muffins!

I am going to continue to work on stress reduction this week. I want to head into the holidays feeling relaxed and mentally together.

How's it going for everyone this week?

I have relatives visiting this weekend, and I got them guest passes for my gym for a fun and healthful outing.
