I hope it's okay to just join in here...I had a decent workout week, 2 big hikes (40 minutes up/down hills) and two free weight workouts, though both were only 20 mins each. I need to do more abdominal work and stretching - I just don't stretch much any more.

My eating is a strong point. I love cooking and I love gardening so I cook a lot of healthy meals with organic veggies and I love things like kale, beets, etc. But I love bread much more than I should. Fresh bread is like a big slice of chocolate cake to me. It's my weakness. At least I don't like sweets.

I've been doing some breathing exercises too to keep my blood pressure in check. I bought this little device called "resperate" and it has helped me quite a bit. It measures your breathing, then plays music with little tones to indicate when you should breathe in or out and it slows down over a period of 10 mins. My naturopathic doc recommended it.
Those photos on food from around the world are fascinating, thanks for posting Alicat. All those brightly colored labels of industrial-food-like substances! It makes me curious about my family's weekly food.

I knew I had seen those photos before somewhere... turns out they are from the book Hungry Planet: What the World Eats by Peter Menzel.

The book was published in 2007, I wonder what took The Daily Mail so long to report on it :D

Menzel also wrote Material World: A Global Family Portrait in the '90s with photos of famiies posed in front of all their household goods. That is another eye-opener.
Everything You Own In A Photo: A Look At Our Worldly Possessions
Thanks DianeG and Makrame. The breathing exercise has helped me stay calm when I felt I felt myself getting upset and I feel like it didn't call a whole lot of attention to what I was doing.

Wow, Alicat, that's awesome! I'd like to eat with the families from India and Turkey! And yikes! Look at all the soda pop!!

My favorite line in the accompanying article: "In Japan, the Ukita family spend £200 on their weekly shop which includes large amounts of expensive fish to cook dishes such as sashimi." (Emphasis mine! I think the copy editor should have caught the fact that sashimi isn't, by definition, "cooked!")

Good luck, Raisin!

I had a good exercise week, pretty good food week, did drink a little too much wine.

I plan to follow the same exercise plan this week -- mix of Zumba classes, "The Firm" weight videos, and Jessica Smith Youtube workouts.

Thought this might interest you all -- it shows what families around the globe eat each week. I'd want to eat with the Egyptians and Turks. On a fashion note, love the hats in Ecuador and the prints in Mali! : )

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....hotographe
Kristin, sounds like your week went pretty well - I hope your migraine situation is getting better.

Raisin, good luck on the marathon! DH and I ran a 10 mile race today - very hilly but fun. Too hot for my taste, though. I hope you have nice, cool weather for your race.

I had an ok week. 4 bike commutes, 2 runs, 2 swims. But man I am starting to get the build I get when I bike a lot. It does not help that with the activity level I am hugely hungry all the time and am putting on quad and glute mass so my pants arent fitting so great. Also my lats are expanding (I do a lot of pulling the bike handle bar when climbing steep terrain) so two bras are feeling too tight at the band. I am sure I am physically stronger and have more cardiovascular fitness but I am feeling frustrated that I am larger. I know this all on a logical level but I am having a hard time coming to terms that bring stronger usually means being bigger for my particular body. Grrrrr!
Sounds like everyone is getting on or keeping on track!

Wellllll.....my marathon is this Sunday coming....eeek! Double eek since I just went for a very short run tonight after having not run for 2 weeks, and it felt strange. I did run 20 miles before we left for Croatia, and it felt good, so I figured not running while I was away would be fine. All the walking made my legs so sore anyway, I don't think I could have run even if I wanted to. Well tonight I had a crampy stomach too since I got a stomach bug from my parents when we got back in town (I was literally throwing up Friday night, so I guess that could be the problem). Anyway, stomach bug is gone now, and I will try 1 or 2 more small runs this week just to get back in the groove, and the marathon shall be what it shall be! (Probably very tough....haha, no doubt).

Good exercise week, not the best food week. I made it to the gym five times -- three boot camps and two trainer sessions. No tap class this week because it was the fifth week of the month.

I am determined that this week I will stick to a healthy plant-based diet! I have put on a couple of pounds and I want to drop them before they get too comfortable around my middle!
Hi Kristin, I hope you have had a migraine free week? I like the sound of your breathing meditation, I really should do that too, as I get stressed easily.
I did a workout this afternoon and I really didn't want to, but I forced myself and I feel a bit brighter after.
I saw a physio last wed and I'm going again on tues to see if we can sort my neck out and maybe get rid of my headaches. If I'm headache free this week I will try to fit in some more exercise. Like you I am just maintaining at the mo.

I have ditched the vacation bloat. It took a week for the pounds to come down and then a few days for my bodyfat to follow.
I've been fitting in planks, and some simple dumbbell exercises. No running yet. Still very congested in my chest. Think I may be developing allergies. Joy. Not.
Doing well keeping carbs under 150 grams and the wine in check. Want to continue on this track for the next week while I'm working a lot. Have a big Sunday brunch next week :)

Hi everyone! I hope y'all had a great week!

This week has been sort of a maintaining week. The weather has been cool and rainy (well, cool by my standards ), so I've just been focused on making sure I'm eating healthy and walking when it's not too gross outside. I've started doing a little bit of meditation throughout the day. I probably should pick a set time and do it, but I've been using it when I feel my stress rising and it's seemed to help. And it's super simple. Inhale for x counts (I usually do 3), and exhale for 2x counts (I do 6).

How has everyone else's week been?
