Anne, so far it's been going surprisingly well, but I have to make sure I have food readily available. The planning and prepping is key. I am finding that I need to fuel up on a little bit of carbs on my long run days though. We have 2 huge boxes of granola bars right now, so I'm using those as some sugar fuel on days where I have to run 10 mi +.

I think I had a delayed reaction to the sugar withdrawal. I just got over having a headache for 2 days. Last time I cut sugar that happened day 1, but this time I was 6 days in! Weird...

Forgot to add, my new 9.5 sneaks came this week and my feet are in running heaven! No tape needed, the toes have lots of room. Too bad I didn't figure this out before the demise of my toenail

very interesting Kristin ( though I couldn't identify mine exactly)

Raisin, I have a natural tendency to get through the day on carbs too! Your posts are interesting. I don't want to give up sugar entirely (and giving up grains entirely would be too much of a change for me) but I am having a few days off sugar. I find that if I have a break for a bit it can sort of put it back in its place .

Have had a sore throat and cold this week, but have managed a 5km walk delivering flyers and yesterday did my first spin class of the year ( I think) Took it fairly easily and am not aching today.

Thanks Kristin....I can actually identify to many of the tummies....stressed, little pooch, but I think mostly the bloated tummy for me. I am currently working on my diet, I haven't been eating particularly healthy, and it does cause numerous stomach issues for me. My DH says I have a weak stomach, lol, but his is like iron. It's interesting to read! I think what we eat affects our stomach and bowels greatly!

Currently I'm eliminating all wheat/gluten products, and my stomach does seem different. I may have to try eliminating dairy as well, it seems like it's never sat very well with me. It makes it difficult to eat now though, so I'm following Paleo pretty closely and my fat/protein has gone up considerably, but my energy is stable, and even though I'm sure it's more calories (I don't count though), haven't gained a pound. Eating good quality meat, eggs, nuts, veggies, oil must be much better for me then the crap I ate before. I was lamenting to my DH that when I really thought about my typical day, I was horrible! Usually I wake up starving, grab something chocolate like a granola bar, then have tea...then toast and PB later in the am, and maybe toast again later on (I love it), I'll grab a banana and more chocolate, have an instant oatmeal, grab some goldfish crackers or mini cookies for the kids lunch, and by supper I feel gross, bloated and on a sugar roller coaster. Now for a week I've been eating eggs, bacon, salads with eggs, chicken and EVOO, and beef/veg or fish for supper. Feels much better!

I'm not sure how true it is, but I figure there's no harm in trying a different approach.

Kristen that's interesting! I've never heard of different types of stomachs. Mine would probably be a "sensitive" one.

Well, I keep on running. I am losing my toenail on the left foot....ugh, yuck, sorry if TMI. It's happened to me before. At least it doesn't really hurt. Looks ugly for about 6 months though. I got my new HUGE running shoes yesterday though. Size 9.5! Yowza, there is about 1" of clear space in them. But I think it will help, cause thats when my foot is normal and not swollen from running. Makes me look like I have boat feet though, hehe!

I think I'm going to try to start incorporating a few light weight-bearing exercises into my routine. This past week I added an extra calcium supplement to my daily vitamins. I know at 28 I'm a little young to worry about osteoporosis, but I have 3 of the 4 big risk factors (Caucasian, small frame, and family history) so I think that if I start getting in the habit of taking care of myself now, I should be good to go when I should start to worry.

I saw an interesting website article about the different types of stomachs the other day. The trainer broke down stomachs into a few different groups and had drawings of each kind. Mine looked most like a stress one and he suggested yoga and longer exercises, like walking, as opposed to the high stress exercises. I already o the walking, so I think I'm going to try to throw some yoga into the mix. I figure it can't hurt.

New week! I meant to catch up on the old thread, but I guess I'll do it here.

I healed up the blister on the end of my big toe! It took 3.5 days, so I missed 2 runs last week, one was a rest day. Oh well, I knew it would happen at some point, just trying to keep the misses to a minimum.

I discovered that wrapping my toe in duct tape keeps the blister from coming back. But the toenail on my other big toe is a little bruised. Nothing major, but if it goes more and more, I bet I'll lose it. Lost a few toenails through my life, it's ugly! But luckily, not that painful.

I also discovered that even though my running shoes are 1/2 size up, when you get up to the REALLY long runs, your feet swell even MORE! So the new shoes I have coming are another 1/2 size up! Hehe, so I'm running in 9.5's now and my reg shoes are usually 8.5, sometimes even 8's. But I'm glad I figured this out now, and with minimal damage and down time.

So I'm back to my regular schedule of running this week.

Oh also, on day 4 of absolutely NO sugar! I have also eliminated grains. I guess I'm sort of seeing how the Paleo diet works out for me. The last time I eliminated sugar, and not grains, I had a headache and fogginess and all for the first week. So far I have none of it! My energy level is VERY even. I do still crave sugar though, but more so because I love it, but not because I need the energy hit. So we'll see where this goes. If I only end up eliminating sugar, then great, but maybe I will be doing Paleo all the way for a while. Anyone have any experience with it?
